Just wanted to inform all of you that I would be mostly inactive from now on due to much happening.

I do not plan to abandon this FF. The next update is getting drafted. In fact its almost ready just need to check thoroughly.

I will keep coming back at least to update the FF.

Part 36

The darting looks which Riddhima stubbornly shot his way kept unsettling Sid throughout the journey. She was always the stubborn sort who could not be swayed easily.

Stubbornness is not only a virtue of ego but also comes from perseverance. Her endeavors to first keep him away from alcohol and then wanting to pass him the drink came only out of concern for him. All her efforts were targeted towards his comfort and betterment. He had to accept that. Not only did she keep her ethics aside but had let go of her pride and self esteem to make him to abstain alcohol and more importantly speak out his mind.

He recognized that she would gladly suffered the emotional torment his verbal lashing delivered like she had done in past.

Her efforts were directed towards addressing those questions which hounded him. Those questions were the reason for his depression while his drinking was just an effort to ward off that depression.

His failed marriage and later on his loneliness and drinking habit attracted a whole sympathy wave from all possible corners. This realization had dawned on him earlier too and moreso after he returned to Mumbai. But for him this was his life and he chose to do as he wished. The rebel in him refused to accept any logic and warded off even the genuine advice as a act of sympathy. He continued to nurture his set notions and lifestyle. This was his comfort zone where he felt safe from any further danger to his already shattered heart and hopes. Whenever someone tried to pull him out of his comfort zone became an enemy and got blocked out of his life. He mentally and physically distanced himself. At times he would wonder if he had any friends left.

This was not healthy. This was not the way to lead one's life. He had always hated dependence. The previous evening had slapped the hard reality that though he may not dependent on people but was now physically dependent on alcohol due to its regular consumption. He was also emotionally dependent on it on the pretext of warding off depression. But it never could help. Alcohol only added to it.

To add to his agony he found no difference between armaan and himself. armaan had played on Riddhima's guilt conscience heavily which Sid never preferred to do himself. He believed that a relation free of emotional pressure proved to be a stronger relation. He had strived to achieve one with Riddhima hence gave her full freedom. Though they did not share any relation yet he found himself depriving Riddhima of it now. He did not care if Riddhima and armaan's relation resultant of any pressures but he detested his behavior exerting any for of pressure on Riddhima. He was feeling guilty of pulling Riddhima back as he felt his deeds were playing on Riddhima's guilt. Hence, he had to work towards taking that off Riddhima.

Back in Mumbai, armaan was reeling under the effect of Riddhima's resignation. He held Riddhima guilty of absconding from him. Sid's absence fueled it further.

His sources had informed him of Sid being away for work at the Lonavla orphanage. He consoled himself of there being a lesser possibility of the ex husband wife getting together, trying to whip up reconciliation. At least Sid would not entertain. This perception was solely based on Sid's cold restrained approach even though it may be under the garb of professionalism.

But Riddhima remained his concern. She looked visibly affected by Sid's presence and more so his changed status, demeour, in fact everything about Sid seemed to affect her. He had always hated Sid holding any importance in Riddhima's life. To add to it Riddhima's avoiding his calls and ignoring his messages had a coupling effect.

He felt having definitely lost the grounding which he had so labourously worked towards. Even people were talking how different things were after Sid's return. He found it imperative to impress upon Riddhima and moreso on Sid and others his importance and rights on his lady love and her life. But to do that too, his lady love needed to be present. His days of waiting finally came to an end when that morning the new patient from the Lonavla orphanage was wheeled in. The two people in question walked in together tow with the new patient have him the jolt to his beliefs.

His fury knew no ends. He eyed Sid viciously. The man who had accused him as 'Patni Chor' was now seemingly the culprit for stealing his girl friend, his fiance. The tables seemed to have turned. It took JP and Jiggy a great deal of effort to tear armaan from the scene of crime.

Riddhima half worried for the patient and half for Sid did not even register the glares of displeasure shot their way when she arrived in tow with Sid.

She did what her instincts dictated; waiting on Sachin and Sid diligently trying to assess her requirement and fulfilling it without even being asked.

Sid's keen eyes however registered all but chose to ignore his surrounding and studiously went about doing what he was required as he would for his the betterment of his patient. As he handed the case to doctor in charge Kirti walked in to check on the new patient.

She too was taken aback by Riddhima's sudden appearance, that too with Sid. She felt like she was standing on volcano of gossip ready to erupt.

The look on her face screamed for a valid excuse.

Sid too wanting to curb the gossip that may have already started making rounds explained 'Dr Riddhima was handling this case in Lonavla when I reached there.'

Kirti heaved a slight sigh of relief. Kirti felt happy to see these two having handled the situation professionally. Even during Tammanna's time they had set aside their conflicts to ensure a smooth operation. They two were indeed thorough professionals who never let the personal grudges interfere with the patient's health. She thought there was a possibility that these two may have reconciled their differences which would aid the tension to go down. 'I am happy to hear that...' she commended hoping Sid would complete the remaining.

'She has done good service despite being off duty by helping out the staff present there with the regular check ups too.' said taking a cue that Kirti wanted know more on the Lonavla visit.

Riddhima looked a little taken aback by Sid's testimony thus confusing Kirti on her inferences.

The normal appreciation tone that shone in Sid's voice while commending the work of a junior was being starkly missed. Kirti already started contemplating having drawn inferences too quickly. To settle her doubts she questioned 'So that means Dr Riddhima is back with Sanjeevani?'

The uncertain looks which Sid and Riddhima shot each others way strengthened Kirti's suspicion.

Riddhima was non'commital as always. Typical of Riddhima. Previously Sid would step up to be the guiding force but now he preferred to stand back and refrain his guardian instincts. 'If she is ready to resume, you can do the needful changes to the roster.'

Riddhima would have loved Sid being a tad bit more welcoming. It would give the much needed boost to her morale. His indifferent approach hurt Riddhima to no ends but her mission demanded her presence around Sid. So she stubbornly affirmed Kirti's question 'Toh kya aap join back karna chahati hai Dr Riddhima?'

'Jee' The plain simple answer had the power to give Sid the jitters. Having her around translated into bearing with those pained darting looks which had now had started jabbing a dagger through his heart.

Not wanting to make his discomfort known he left the two ladies to made a quick exit.

Sid's visible discomfiture only proved her belief right. Her presence was the bitter medicine which Sid needed. She was happy to have persisted but the actual implications of her instinctive decision dawned on her when she was pulled into the fire escape.

'armaan.'

'Riddhima. Tum aise kyu chali gayi. Tumhe maloom hai main tumhare bina ek pal nahi reh sakta.'

'Mujhe kuch cheesey samajne ke liye waqt chahiye tha.' she lamely reasoned understanding well that armaan was just going easy on her for her disappearance. She could sense the anger and insecurity in his grip.

'Ok ...woh toh hum saath kar sakte the. We could have gone to Panchgani and spent some quality time there. Tumhe akele aise jaane ki kya zaroorat thi woh bhi Lonavla orphanage jaha itna hone ke baad usne wapis tumhe kaam pe laga diya aur mujhse baat bhi nahi karne diya hoga.'

'Main sirf ek doctor ka farz nibha rahi thi.' she replied with a angry tone.

'Then why were you not answering any of my calls. Mere ek bhi message ka jawab nahi diya. Tumhe maloom hai main kitna pareshan tha?'

'armaan maine kaha na main akele rehna chahati thi.'

'Par yeh dooriyan mujhe pareshan karti hai. Kitne problems ke baad hum ek saath hai. Darr lagta hai. Main tumhare bina nahi jee sakta. I love you Riddhima.'

Riddhima wanted to end this chapter there itself. As soon as she open her mouth a message was sounded on PA system calling her to report on duty.

'Mujhe jaana hoga.' She left an pinning armaan behind to make a quick exit. She did not want to invite trouble the first day of her rejoining.

armaan was not at all thrilled with Riddhima escaping without impressing her feelings and affirming her commitment. So after her return, armaan made sure he did not leave Riddhima alone as far as possible. He would pick her up and escort her back home. Unconsciously Kirti helped armaan. Kirti knew that if armaan did not get his time with Riddhima he would resort to all sorts of antics to proclaim his love. This could mess up the situation further and may again put Sid and her in a tight spot by requiring them to take the disciplinary action which they had avoided previously. So hoping to keep all out of trouble she went about assigning Riddhima and armaan similar shifts.

Riddhima felt helpless not being able to do what she intended. Her agony peaked every time she saw Sid uncomfortable and stressed. She had no means of figuring out if he was still taking the aid of alcohol to fight those depressing questions which hounded him. armaan constant proximity did not leave Riddhima with any time and space to address the questions which she desperately wanted to. Only its answers could possibly bring back the old Sid who lived life with a smile, spread joy and hope in everyone's life instead of just being a machine which knew what work and duty was.

In the coming days Sid immersed himself in work. His aim was to settle all the work and make a quick exit from Sanjeevani. But the actual reason remained avoiding Riddhima as much as possible. It was getting more and more difficult for him.

He tried hard yet they would still bump into each other. Each such encounter left him guiltier for the pained look on Riddhima's face. He found Riddhima searching for signs which told her more about his state of mind and health which pushed him further worked on avoiding alcohol. In order to avoid any drastic reaction on his health and his work subsequently, he even started therapy.

But the situation continued to get more and more difficult. armaan not getting a breakthrough continued to accompany Riddhima like a shadow. Riddhima consequently was even more edgy especially when Sid was in the vicinity fearing armaan demonstrative ways being a cause of grief for all moreso Sid and her.

Sid often found himself trying to fathom what was bothering Riddhima more; armaan and his presence causing an untoward scene or the gossip which was triggered by these instances or was it really only him. Whatever be the case, it was his presence that was an important component causing this discomfort. So even if Riddhima shifted on her feet nervously Sid would engage himself into a conversation with the next available person in order to keep his mind away from these thoughts and also to ward off any interaction.

This only worsened matters further for Sid and Riddhima. Sonia who was still working on the project with Sid made the most any opportunity to break the ice with Sid. Since his return she found Sid vulnerable. This time she planned to handle his vulnerability differently.

Keeping in mind Sid's anxieties of anyone encroaching on his comfort zone, Sonia made sure she did not come too strongly on Sid. She kept the conversations restricted to work and random discussions on current events if any interesting Sid. Previously also Sid appreciated her dedication towards work. But the renewed approach got Sid warming up to Sonia. He longed to have a friend which he now felt he could possibly find in Sonia. As desired Sonia was finding success. Soon they were often seen chatting away in his office, cafeteria or when they bumped into each other in the corridors.

Sid understanding the dynamics exercised some restraint but was softer and relaxed. This relaxed demeanor in Sonia's company surprised all thus triggering another round of speculations.

These speculations in turn triggered Riddhima's anxiety further. Her mind kept bombarding her with more and more questions adding to her agony.

Sonia's hopes were on the rise anticipating Sid stepping forward to asking her out official for a 'date'. However she experienced great inconsistency in Sid's behavior. Suddenly all his defenses would go up. The tension and forced conversations were too evident. After a couple of such instances she inferred the probable cause as Riddhima presence. This infuriated Sonia to no ends.

If looks could kill there would have been a massacre in Sanjeevani by now.

Each shot daggers at their arch rivals while Sid seemed helplessly caught in middle of this battle for no fault of his.

This became a vicious circle. Frustration was mounting. It was waiting for a small trigger to let everything blow out of proportion and that trigger came soon without a warning.

So SR r back in Sanjeevani hmm interesting ;) now when haraam is around Ridz like a puppy :P it'll b great to see how Ridz's control her 'true' feelings & keep a chk on Siddy ;)
