Chapter 3:
Chayya Sharma:
Dressed conservatively and neatly in a white formal shirt and a faded and well pressed blue jeans, I reached the doorstep of the Piano classes I had registered for, a month ago. I looked around the place that I would be spending the majority of my time for the next few years with great curiosity.
The place was beautiful. It was tastefully decorated and classy, just the way I liked it. A man was sitting on the reception with a curious expression on his face as he matched my face with the applications he had recieved. He finally reached mine and then smiled.
"Chayya Sharma?" he asked.
I nodded.
He swiftly got up from his seat and led me inside to, I assumed, our teacher, a someone called Mr. George. I'd heard a lot of people tell me how brilliant he was, and I was bursting from inside to feel the magic.
But instead of leading me into an office, which I presumed, where Mr. George would be, he led me into a classroom, a small and rather shabby looking room.
There were already three people seated inside. A well built guy who'ss face I couldn't see, a plump looking girl who was sketching something on the back of her notebook and a thin, fat deficient guy sitting on the first seat, his ears covered with ear plugs which were connected to his jeans pocket interior. He seemed to be jigging along with the music rather weirdly. I choked in a giggle.
As soon as I stepped in, all three of them turned around to see who the new comer was. That was when it happened, the magical moment, the thing that I had lived all my life denying could ever happen to me again after what had happened in school, Love.
Today if you asked me what it had been all those years ago, that made me think it was love, I would say it was his eyes. They were like two tiny black magnets, making my insides knot and unknot here and again.
I looked down at my feet quickly and took a seat behind the thin malnutritioned guy, still not daring to believe what had happened. I looked sideways at the well built guy who had attracted me so crazily in just the few seconds that I had met his eyes and then slowly breathed out.
He was again looking at his phone, seeming lost and confused. The plump girl sitting behind him looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back. But before the girl could say as much as a hi, I took out my phone to call Vishalakshi, my best friend, and the girl who had convinced me in the first place to come here and register.
I was halfway through to calling her when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see a familiar face.
Wait a minute, I'd seen him in the orientation hall the other day. Of course, I had! But what was his name?
"Chayya right?" he asked.
This was so embarrassing. He remembered my name, and I dint remember his. I kicked myself twice in my head and then smiled at him.
"Ya. Uhhh I forgot your name!" I said, feeling like a complete idiot.
"That's okay. Its Arnav Prakash. An annoyingly tough name to remember I'm sure." He said with such ease that it momentarily made me forget how dumb I had just been. With no pretence he took the seat next to me, and then to my surprise, he smiled at the well built guy who smiled back at him.
"Amit come sit here wont you?" Arnav pointed at the seat beside the thin malnutritioned guy. Rather reluctantly Amit got up and filled that seat. I stared at him again, trying to figure him out when Arnav spoke again.
"Amit this is Chayya. Chayya this is Amit. He's in our college as well. " Arnav introduced us to each other. I was still too dumfounded to say anything. Amit smiled and then turned back to his phone.
I frowned.
"Don't mind him. Hes really absent minded these days. But Unnati convinced me he's an awesome guy. By the way you should see the way he answers in class. Such a smart ass man. Makes me feel like I just came out of dung." Arnav whispered rather playfully. I smiled at him and then turned my attention back to Amit.
I was about to say something more to Arnav about how odd I found Amit's behavior when I heard another familiar voice behind me.
"You Ditcher! You said you'd save me a seat. And what do I see now? My best friend ditching me for a guy?"
My insides collapsed one over the other as I realized who's voice that was.
"Vish! Im so sorry. I completely forgot. "
But when I turned, Vishalakshi, to my surprise, didn't look angry at all. On the contrary she looked rather amused.
"Found ourselves a boy friend already eh?" Vishalakshi teased pointing at Aranv. To my surprise I found Amit's head turned a complete one eighty degrees, towards us.
"AMITY BOY!" Vishalakshi screamed in her shrill, high pitched voice as soon as she saw Amit. I stared at the two of them in astonishment as Amit got up and hugged her with a huge smile on his face. That was the very first time I heard him open his mouth and talk.
"Vishi! I'm already bored with this place." Amit said and shrugged.
"Oh, Amity lighten up! Start smiling a bit. It wont kill you." Vishalakshi poked him.
Amit stared rather funnily at Vishalakshi before he turned back to me, analyzing me through and through a second time, with something I hadn't seen in his eyes before now. Something different.
That night when I reached back home, Amit was the only thing I could think about. And unconsciously I found myself angry and jealous with Vishalakshi. Why, I couldn't understand myself, but I was sure it had something to do with that well built guy who I was already so in love with.
Amit gill. Chayya Gill?
Hope you gus like it.
Love
