CHAPTER 9: THE TURNING POINT

'Dee hurry. The bus leaves in ten minutes', Anushka said to khushi. The two sisters got on the bus and headed towards their seats.

'Why are you so quiet today?' asked Anushka.

'Umm no reason' Khushi shrugged. But that wasn't true. Something was teasing her, she just couldn't figure it out. It was as if something was missing behind.

Arnav woke up with the realization that khushi won't be here for the weekend and the thought of spending these two days without her was all doom and gloom. Arnav's phone rang and he hastened to pick it up. Please, let it be khushi. But it was ayaan's name that appeared on the screen.

'Hey'

'Whatssup brother?'

'Just woke up. You tell? Calling so early?'

'Want you to get dressed bro. We're going to my friend's farm house. Its party all day.'

'No man I don't feel like it today.'

'Oh c'mon arnav. We'll meet chicks there'

'You go ahead'

'Arnav-'

'Not today ayaan'

'Ok then. Catch you later.

Twenty minutes later when arnav was still summoning up the energy to get up from his bed, the bedroom's door opened and Ayaan walked in.

'Oh Cinderella's still in bed. Get up already'

'What are you doing here?'

'Well I can't leave you alone sulking now can I romeo?'

'So you ditched those chicks at the farm house for me? Aww man I feel so special' Arnav laughed.

'Yeah you better. All those gals out there missed their chance with me because of you.'

'Oh how will I ever pay thy back?'

'Just get up drama queen'

Ayaan waited while arnav got dressed. As he emerged back into the room he asked 'So where to?'

'Uhh how about psp for now.'

'Yeah cool' Arnav threw the towel in his hand on ayaan and heade for the bean bag lying in front of the tv.

'Attach the AV cable will you'

Ayaan did as told and joined arnav.

Arnav smiled. He knew ayaan didn't care but he was still thankful to him for coming to see him instead of going to that farm house.

Anushka rang the door bell. After a minute a lady, in her early fifties opened the door.

'Mom!!' Both khushi and Anushka cried in unison.

'My child'. Their mother exclaimed with equal enthusiasm.

She hugged both her daughters in turn. The three came inside and sat on the sofas.

After chatting for a little while their mom said 'You two must be tired. Get some rest.'.

'No mom we wanna spend as much time with you as w can. We're not tired at all'. Said khushi and Anushka nodded in agreement.

'Yep we're here to eat Aalo k parathe and for your infamous jalebi mom'

Their mother laughed. 'Ok how about I get the lunch ready, meanwhile you two go get some rest.

The two daughters agreed and giving their mom a kiss each they left for their room.

It was good to be back in their old bedroom. Khushi was glad to be here. But she missed some thing too. As if an important thing was left behind. Something she forgot to bring perhaps. She took out her phone from her bag. No messages or calls. Disappointed and confused she place the phone on the bed side table. Who did you expect to call? She asked herself. With her thoughts tangled in confusion she went to sleep.

'Stop staring at your phone. If you wanna call her then call her already dude' said ayaan slightly annoyed.

'What? Im just...'

'Yeah I know'

'Ugh fine' arnav placed the phone on the table. He and ayaan had gone out for lunch.

'So excited for your date tomorrow?'

'Huhh'

'Your date with Lavannya tomorrow?'

'Ohh yeah. I guess.

'I don't get it. Why are you going out with her if all you can think about is khushi?'

'Because its no use. If khushi were to feel something for me, it would've happened. Lavannya is a nice girl and maybe being with her is the only chance to get over khushi.'

'That was kinda deep. Dude stop acting dumb. You love khushi and you know it. Lavannya cant change that'

'Lets not talk about this please'

'Whatever you say'

Arnav went over at lavannya's place to pick her up for their date. But arnav already knew the answer. His attempts were futile.

'Hey'Greeted Lavannya as she got in the car.

'Hi'

'So where to?'

'How about Berco's?'

'Sure I love that place'

They reached berco's and place their orders. They'd just finshed eating when ayaan called arnav and aked him and Lavannya to join him for a party. When Lavannya agreed they left for the party. Arnav parked the car outside the club ayaan sent told him was the venue. But before leaving the car there was something he needed to tell Lavannya

'Im sorry Lavannya. I cant do this. I knw I asked you out. But I just cant get myself to like you the way I like khushi. I love her . And despite all my efforts a don't think anyone can take her place.'

'You know the first day I met you, I realized you had it bad for her, but I kept hoping that I might get lucky.'

Arnav smiled 'I truly am sorry, I just… I fell for her without realizing it and now I just don't know how to stop loving her. How am I to get over her if I can teven spend two days without her. In these two days ive missed her soo much I don't know if I can ever make it without her'

'You shouldn't be sorry for her. You really love her. And trust me I've seen enough movies to know that she'll find a way to you.'

' sure hope so'

'So shall we go in?'

'You go ahead I got a call to make'

Lavannya went inside while arnav dialed khushi's number with his heart racing fast, he felt adrenaline rushing through his bloodstreams.

'That's the twentieth time, put that phone down already. Obama aint calling', said Anushka. Dee is acting so weird. I've never seen her so distracted, so lost n thoughts before…

'I'm not expecting a call from Obama.'

'Then who are you expecting a call from? All you've done since yesterday is stared at youre hpone or you seem lost in thought, whats the matter with you?'

'I don't know. Go to sleep anushka'

'You've been acting strange all day dee. Whats wrong?'

'Its nothing. Im tired Anushka. Night.'

'Fine'. Anushka got up and left the room, leaving khushi alone to think. Whats happening to me? I should enjoy my time with mum and look at me! Thinking about him. It was true. Despite her efforts khushi couldn't stop thinking about arnav. Something about Friday had clicked. It was nothing special, just a day out and yet walking alongside arnav, eating ice cream, talking and that dinner. Something happened inside her. Something she never felt before. She'd spent time with arnav before, they'd had lunch plenty of times together, they'd gone out but there was someone with them everytime. But this time, she got to know more of arnav and without even realizing it, she began to think about that part of him. Images from their day together kept flashing by. At first she couldn't figure out that it was him but when Anushka told her in the morning that arnav had called when she was asleep she felt so happy as if she found something she'd been looking for all day and she instantly knew what it was that she left behind. Who it was that she was expecting a call from…

Sunday morning…

Khushi joined her mom and Anushka for breakfast. She was still dizzy from her sleep.

Once they were well fed the three ladies sat down in the lounge and made plans for the day.

When finaly their mom retreated back to her room he two sisters decided to unpack the stuff left. While they were unpacking Anushka said 'Dee arnav called while you were sleeping.'

'What? And youre telling me this now?' said khuhsi to her own surprise

'Woah relax. I wasn't aware it was such an important call'

'It wasn't. But it could be about work. Im gonna call him back'

'Khushi called arnav and while talking to him she realized how much talking to him meant..

'Still thinking' said anushkaas she entered the room.

'Why are you being so irritating?'

'Because im your sister.'

'Shoot will you?'Whats bothering you?'

'Anushka-'

'Oh please we both know you'lll tell me in the end so lets save time here'

Khushi sighed. Anushka was right. Khushi told her everything.

'So this is great!'

'No its not! Anushka I cant be with him. He's my boss! '

'No his dad is your boss'

'Don't you get it. I cant afford to be in a relationship'

'No please say you don't mean what I think you do. Ever since dad died you think that everything is up to you! Stop punishing yourself for his death khushi. Ever since dad has died you've taken charge of the family! Its not your duty so stop giving up on your wishes. You've stop living your life. And now that theres a chance for you to be happy youre throwing it away for an excuse so pathetic'

'Look shut up all right. You don't get it'

'Yes I don't get it why youre so keen being miserable. Please don't let him go. Ive seen love for you in his eyes. Give yourself a chance'

With a tight hug to khushi Anushka left the room to give khuhsi some space.

At the moment, khushi's phone rang

'hello'

'Khushi. Hey its arnav.'

'Hiii.' Khushi broke into a smile

'Listen when will you come back?'

'Tomorrow morning. Ill come straight to office'

'OK great see you. Bye khushi'

Khushi put her phone down. She was still smiling. Maybe Anushka was right. Khushi needed to give this a chance.

'Tomorrow ill tell him, I will give this a chance'

Arnav disconnected the call. He'll wait till tomorrow. And then he'll talk to khushi' He'll make Khushi take this one chance. He had to.

'Come soon khushi. I miss you'.
