Chapter 8: The Day Before Departure

Friday morning khushi walked into arnav's office to tell him that she'll be in chandigarh this weekend.

'Hey, morning.' Khushi greeted arnav as she entered the office.

'Morning' Arnav yawned.

'Arnav I'm going to chandigarh tomorrow.'

'Ok safe journey' he smiled at her.'Oh wait, you cant. We have a meeting tomorrow'.

'Yeah I know, I re-scheduled that to today'

'Oh man! Khushi! No fair.'

'Please arnav. On the bright side now you'll be free tomorrow.'

'But-'

'Oh quit whining'

'Fine'

'Arnav pleeasee'

Arnav raise his head and looked down, 'ok'

Phew, thought khushi. 'Alrighty then. The meetings at five'. I'm gonna study the details with sandy.

God! Why couldn't I say no? Why is it that when I looked at her, I just couldn't refuse to the meeting? Why does she have so much power over me? Thought arnav miserably. It teased him that when he looked at her, he knew that she was his world. And there was no denying that.

At lunch time khushi came up to arnav and asked him out for lunch.

'You wanna go out? Are you sure you didn't hit you're head khushi?' arnav joked.

Khushi rolled her eyes, 'Ofcourse. I thought since I increased your work load-'

'Oh so you're bribing me?'

'Yeah kind of'

'Well can't say no to that, can I?' He said and got up from his chair, 'Lets go, but you're paying?'

'Well that was the idea, but lets face it we both know you wont let me' Said khushi with a slight hint on previous irritation on her face.

'Hmm good point' Arnav winked at khushi.

'Nice place', khushi commented.

'Yeah I often came here for lunch with my friends'

' "Came?" What happened?'

'Office did'

Khushi laughed, 'Sympathies arnav'

'Thanks' he joined khushi and laughed with her.

He looked over at khushi and wondered if he'd ever feel this way with Lavannya. Oh well. Sunday will tell. Arnav answered his own question.

'So what do you wanna offer?' He asked khushi.

The two placed at their orders. The two ate their food quickly and with good appetite.

Once they were done eating. The two decided that it would be useless to drive office and then head towards the meeting as there was just an hour left. Ay they walked out of the restaurant; they were greeted by a cool breeze.

'Let's walk'

'Let's walk'. They said together. And the two broke into laughter.

'There's still time. We just need half an hour to get there.'

Khushi simply nodded and the two walked down the lane.

'You know there's this ice cream place around the corner, we could walk there.' Said arnav.

'Sure'. They ordered their ice crams and walked around the place a little more enjoying the weather. Arnav loved the ease with which the two sent time together. Despite his confession, things were not awkward between them and for this he couldn't thank khushi enough. Once they ate their ice creams, they left for the meeting.

To arnav's relief the meeting ended sooner than anticipated. Once arnav and khushi reached arnavs car they realized that the weather hadn't changed. Cold breeze blew and black clouds over moved over their heads. The two got in the car but to khushi's surprise arnav drove in a different direction from the one that led to her house.

'Where are we going? My house is that way?' said khushi confused.

'Taking you a place you can enjoy the weather. I know this great place we can eat, Its just a couple of miles from the city.'

'Arnav I don't think that's a good idea. I need to pack as well.'

'Khuhsi im not letting you waste an evening like this. So sit back and relax. Its just a twenty minutes drive to that place from here.'

Defeated khushi leaned back in her seat. She was starving after all. All that talking during the meeting had really made her hungry.

Sometime later the car came to a halt. 'C'mon', said arnav.

'What is this place?'

'You'll see'

Once out of the car khushi stood still in shock. The last place she expected arnav singh raizada to bring her was a dhabba.

'What? Move; will you', arnav's voice broghut khsuhi back to life. She turned around and said'You brought me to a dhabba? You? Arnav singh raizada? I thought you'd consider such places un-hygenic and what not'

'Im not that of a big snob you know.'

'If you say so''

As they walked side by side into the dhabba and sat at the near by bench. Khushi was amazed to see that the manager aka owner knew arnav. She allowed arnav to order for her as well.

'So...' said khushi

'So?' echoed arnav.

'How come you know about this place? I mean you've obviously been here before'

'Oh. Actually long time back my car broke down near by. And well one thing led to another and me and my friends ended up having dinner here. I come here here ever since once in a while. The man makes awesome kababs. And the weathers perfect today so yeah….'

'Hmm I see. I used to eat out at dhabbas too. There was this once particular I loved going to in chandigarh. But after dad's death, Anushka and I shifted here and well I didn't knew many places here.'

'Ahh well then you gotta thank me. I'm like the knight in shining armour, the angel in white-'

'Oh don't flatter yourself. But yeah youre idea wasn't bad'

'That's not a thank'

'Keep wishing for it'

The food arrived and the two started munching. Khuhsi was mesmerized by the delicious taste of the food. The occasionally talked but for the most part ate in silence. Once the food was paid for arnav went to say bye to the manager.

'Paaji the food was great as always. Ill take youre leave now.' Said arnav.

'Ok. By the way she seems like a nice girl. Someone Shpecial?'

'Aaho. The most special.'

'What took you so long?' inquired khushi as arnav got into the car.'

'Oh just a chit chat with the manager.

The drive to khushi's place was a long one. But as arnav dropped khushi home he wished that day would've lasted longer.

'Arnav thankyou. Really I lived some very good memories today because of you'

'Glad to be of service maam. Lol have a safe trip to chandigarh. See you on Monday.'

'Thanks and yeah see you' and with that khushi walked into the house and arnav drove away.

Once done packing khuhsi headed towards the bed but instead walked to the window. It was raining outside. A smile spread over her face as she thought about her day. With memories of the day still rushing through her mind she went to bed and fell asleep.

On the other hand arnav too was thinking about his day with khushi. When she sat next to him in that car he longed to reach forward and hold her hand, for her to be closer and yet thankful that she was there, and for this he couldn't thank khushi enough for this. They say if you love her enough she'll find a way to come to you… Could this be true… Perhaps, all he could do now was to hope that perhaps Sunday will help him forget khushi for a while, maybe then things will be easier for him. With a deep breath armav, too, made his was to bed.
