Asa Naasha ke hamesha pyaasa
Asa Naasha ke tum se hi Zindagi
Asa Naasha marte dum tak rehaga
Flashback:
Geet was dancing around her room in excitement and happiness, for her Rehan was coming home today. He had been off for a while in search of a job but a whole two weeks he was back.
While Geet had two cousins, Anjali and Yash, she was the only child of Mohinder Handa and as such the sole heir to his company. She had grown up knowing that she would one day not only own but also run the whole of Handa Constructions. Her father had made sure that no one would have the power to snatch away from her the company, not even any husband she would have.
Rehan on the other hand was the son of one of the accountants working for Handa Constructions. His family was middle class, despite Parekh Uncle having worked for Geet's Dad for a long time. However Geet never saw money or social class as a factor of contention between them. In her mind nothing mattered except being with Rehan.
Rehan on the other hand didn't see things so easily. He knew that Geet's parent's had held high expectations for their daughter and he wanted to prove himself worthy. In this aspect he had developed an inferiority complex, knowing that if they get married people would judge and label him as a gold digger.
So with an almost obsessive manner had was trying to establish himself and make sure that no one could point finger at him. He wanted to become someone worthy of the Handa princess.
"This time I am not going to let him go!" She talked to herself while pacing and jumping around her room. "Keh donga ke bas ab aur nahi! He has to stay close to him."
"GEET!" came a voice through the intercom in her room. "Jaldi tayaar ho ja! Don't you remember we have a party at our house. Be quick!"
"Oh bother!" Geet grumbled, her mood flattening within a second. "Hmph! Better get changed before mum barges in!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Geet walked down the stairs, being careful not to trip in her saree. She had chosen a black net saree with small black beads stitched all over. It was classy and not over the top; just the way she liked it. With only minimal make up on, she knew that she didn't look as flashy as some of the other ladies in the party but she hardly cared about that.
"Geet come over here." Mohinder Handa's booming voice called out to his precious daughter. Many men of his stature and cultural background may have treated their daughter like a doll but he treated Geet as an equal as well as his protg. They discussed everything and anything. From talks about the French revolution to finer points of English literature, from Monet's classics to business contracts, nothing was out of bounds for the two.
Geet had looked up to her father as her inspiration. All that she had achieved was for her parents and Rehan. Her greatest wish was not for success or power, but for the two most important men in her life to get along.
While her father knew about Rehan and her relationship, it was hard for him to swallow. He wanted the best for his daughter and felt that it wasn't Rehan. However he also knew that Geet Handa did wasn't one to be influenced in such matters. He had never pressured her to break of the relationship despite not giving his full approval. He had brought her up to make her own decisions, and he wouldn't take that away at this junction of her life.
Geet rushed over to her father and was surprised to see him talking to a familiar gentleman.
"Geet, this is Maan Singh Khurana." Mohinder introduced the two. "From Khurana Corporates."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maan stared at the vision of perfection in front of him. She just blew him away with her grace, beauty and elegance.
As well as awe, a feeling of satisfaction built within him.
Finally you are here.
It had taken him a while to find her and then within a few days he had made sure that they would meet. After all Maan Singh Khurana always succeeded in what he sets out to do.
"Hi." He said in his deep baritone, while taking in everything about her.
Geet's face broke into a big smile. "Hi! You're the guy from the hotel a few weeks ago. I don't know whether you remember or not but my friend dropped her drink on you."
As if I could forget you, He smirked at the thought but only said, "Is that so?"
"Well nice to see the two of you have met." Mohinder said, slightly confused but he went back to the reason he had called Geet. "Anyways Geet, why don't you show Maan around the place?"
Geet shrugged and smiled at Maan. "Sure!"
With that they started to walk around the room. Maan as usual was not talking that much but Geet didn't mind. She just spoke about random things while she showed him around. However she didn't fail to notice that all the women at the party would gawk at him as they walked by. She let out a laugh, amused by the antics of the ridiculous women.
Maan turned to her and just stared silently at her laughing face. Somehow she seemed to be even more breathtaking while smiling. Her smile caused a small tug on his own lips but he raised an eyebrow at her, questioning her amusement.
While other women might have hedged the question or get embarrassed Geet Handa was hardly to do such thing. Instead she just gave a sweet smile at him and said happily, "Surely you noticed that all the women are basically drooling over you."
Maan stopped in his tracks, looking surprised. Coming from any other woman the comment would have come off as flirtatious, but she said it in a guileless manner. Instead it was filled with pure humour with no hint of innuendo.
Seeing his disgruntled face Geet just laughed some more. "Come on. Don't tell me you don't know! It's pretty obvious that all the women here think that you are gorgeous."
This time a small smirk spread across Maan's face. "Hmm...what about you Ms Handa?"
Geet just smiled and said "No I don't have women stare at me. I guess I don't give off the lesbian vibe."
Maan ended up choking on his drink as he heard the comment. Lesbian vibe?!
Even more laughter came out of Geet. "I am sorry! I have a devilish streak in me that just calls out to tease people. Especially worthy adversaries like you."
"And what makes you think that I am a worthy adversary?" He asked with amusement.
"Come on. Who hasn't heard about Maan Singh Khurana!" She exclaimed.
Instead of being pleased, Maan's mood darkened. Is she going to drool over my money and power like everyone else?
But her next words again proved him wrong. "My dad tells me that you are a master chess player. You apparently got checkmate against him within 10 minutes."
"Do you play?" He asked, wanting to get better insight into the enigma that was Geet Handa.
"Of course." She proudly proclaimed. "Dad had me playing since I was 6."
"Hmmm.well maybe we should play one day." He smoothly volleyed back.
"It's a deal!" Geet said quite excited.
It's a date then, Maan thought with a small grin.
The two of them continued to chat, this time more relaxed. Surprisingly they had quite similar interest though contrasting opinions.
While Geet was a fan of impressionist, Maan was more interested in 16th century classics. Geet appreciated the works of Mozart, Maan related better to Bach's compositions. Their views on literature, despite contrasting choices, were on agreement that modern Literature had nothing on classics. They lamented the lack of appreciation for classics in modern generation.
Maan just revelled in her presence, appreciating her intelligence, humour and wit. He understood that her beauty was not enhanced but created by these qualities within her. For her face glowed with happiness as she discussed Austen's brilliance and her eyes twinkled as she laughed at the fact that he had never read any of the Harry Potter books.
Just as Maan was settling into the conversation, Geet's phone rang, breaking it.
He watched as an enchanting smile spread across her face while staring down at her phone.
Looking up at him, she apologised. "Sorry Maan but I have to run off. It was lovely chatting with you. We should definitely do this some other time."
Don't worry, we will. But he only asked, "Oh were are you running off to?"
"My boyfriend." And with that she ran off.
