Chp. 25 Will they ever meet?
It was 2.00 in the morning and Adi was still awake. He just couldn't sleep. His mind was too occupied in thinking about Pinky. He knew that Sasha's words had hurt her deeply. He couldn't even go and console her. He was feeling dejected and so he decided to have a walk to her room and find out if she was awake. He got out of bed and checked his watch, it was 2.15, the chances of his being spotted were probably nil. He sneaked through the corridors and reached her room. The windows were open, he spied through and to his surprise she was peacefully asleep. Adi felt relieved. He returned
to his room satisfied and went to sleep.

It was an early Saturday morning. Geet was in BR's room going about her daily routine. Two weeks had passed since her last encounter with the 'forest guy' and she had now begun losing hope. She was desperate to meet him again. She really wished that she hadn't run away that day. She was regretting it to the core. There hadn't been a day since then when she hadn't thought about him. She was wondering if he had gone back to where he'd come from. She sighed. She had gotten everything ready and was waiting for BR to wake up. She was busy thinking when she was interrupted by the sound of something crashing. She rushed outside but the corridor was deserted she moved further and found that one of the servants had accidentally broken a vase during cleaning but fortunately no one was injured. She went back to BR's room. But as she entered, she froze at the sight before her eyes.
It was HIM!
Her face instantly lit up. He looked up to see who had entered and was equally surprised. They just stared at each other. She had wanted to see him desperately and here he was, right before her. She just stared at him.
She wanted to talk to him but didn't know what to say. He had that effect on her. She couldn't comprehend what to say. She was feeling dumb standing there so again she turned and began running.
Maan realized that she was running again but he was not going to let it happen, not this time. "Hey wait!" he called out but she didn't listen.
He called out after her again but she didn't heed. "Aaahhh," he suddenly gasped in pain. His hand had been pierced by a nail which was sticking out from the door.
When Geet heard the yelp of pain, she froze then slowly turned and walked back to him.
Maan saw her stop and heaved a sigh of relief. He forgot all about the pain and smiled inwardly as he saw her walking towards him. She came and stood before him and before she could speak, her attention was diverted to the drops of blood on the floor. She realized that she had heard him gasp and it was because of the wound on his hand. It was bleeding. She reached for his hand and examined the wound.
Maan was surprised when she held his hand and then he realized that it was wounded. It was a deep wound.
"How did this happen?" she queried.
Maan smiled at her concern. "I think it was pierced by a nail," he replied.
"Couldn't you be a little careful?" she asked concern evident in her tone.
Maan loved the concern she was feeling for him and he decided to tease her.
She had kept him waiting for too long he thought.
"Excuse me? It was because of you that this happened. Had you stopped when I called out to you, I wouldn't need to chase you and nor would this happen," he said.
Geet realized that he was right. She didn't reply but rather to Maan's surprise took him to BR's room. She made him sit on a chair and rushed to get the first aid box. She took some cotton and got to clean the wound.
Maan observed her silently enjoying her anxiety. She cleaned it and then blew air on it in an attempt to soothe the pain. Then she bandaged it neatly and said silently, "I'm sorry. But why did you want to stop me?"
"Oh well nothing much, I just wanted to thank you for saving my life in the forest that day, but you like some express train, always disappear. Tell me something, do I look like a ghost?" he asked.
Geet looked at him in shock. "No," she replied.
"Good. Okay now, if you could give me a chance to thank you properly, I
would really be glad," he said.
"Huh?" Geet asked.
"How about coffee in the evening? Now please don't say no, it's a request and don't worry, we are not going out of the palace," he replied.
Geet just stared at him in surprise.
"So is it a yes?" Maan asked.
Geet was fighting with her conscience, debating as what to reply and finally she nodded in the affirmative.
"Great! So see you at 8.00, right here, we have a lot of talking to do," saying so Maan disappeared from there.
Geet still couldn't believe what had just transpired. She had wanted to see him and when she had lost hope of seeing him again, she had met him and she was going to meet him again! She was feeling very excited and happy.
But she didn't know why she was feeling so happy at the prospect of seeing him again. What was the reason behind her excitement? Why did she want to meet him and spend time with him? She had so many questions whirling in her mind but she didn't have an answer to any of them, so she decided to put them aside and got back to her work eagerly waiting for the evening to arrive.

***EDITED***
Maan was pleased with himself. Today of all days when he had hardly been
thinking about her, he had walked into her! He thanked God for his luck and
then kissed the wound on his hand. It was because of it that he had finally
been able to talk to her today because had he not have been injured, she
would have disappeared like always. He had been acting very coolly and
casually in front of her but he was equally excited. He didn't know how she
easily agreed to meet him, especially when all the time she had been
running away from him. There was so much he wanted to know about her, he
thought. He was eagerly waiting for the evening but before that he had to
talk to Adi and also make a few arrangements for the evening.
*****
For the past two weeks Adi hadn't met Pinky at all. He wanted to avoid
situations where Sasha could again get a chance to insult her. He didn't
want to be the cause of more pain and suffering in her life. But at the
same time, he was feeling restless. He wanted to know how she was. He
wanted to meet her but was always stopped when he thought about Sasha. He also wanted to talk to her about the Riverside girl and find out if she knew anything because he wanted to help Maan. He wondered if Maan had met
her again or seen her because since that first encounter of theirs, Maan hadn't told him anything about seeing her or meeting her either. Infact he hadn't brought up her topic at all. Adi wondered why. Whenever they met, they had just talked about business and other things but not about her, never at all. Adi decided that today he would bring up the topic if Maan
didn't. He wanted to know what was going on in Maan's mind. When he entered Maan's room, he was standing by the window lost in thought.
Maan had been contemplating whether to let Adi know about his Riverside
girl and his meetings with her because Adi already seemed worried and
moreover he hardly shared his problems with Maan so he was feeling that he
shouldn't burden Adi with his problems either.
"Kunwarji"
Maan turned to find Adi standing there.
"Adi, you got the papers done?"
"Yes," replied Adi handing him the file.
Maan was examining the papers when Adi asked, "kunwarji, did you meet the
Riverside girl again?"
But Maan acted as though he hadn't heard him and said, "The papers are
perfect Adi, well done."
Adi understood that Maan was avoiding talking about her but he still asked
again and Maan ignored him once again.
"Kunwarji, I thought we were friends and that you could always share your
joys and sorrows with me without any hesitation," said Adi.
"Exactly! That is what I thought too, but I think you don't," replied Maan.
"Kunwarji!" Adi was shocked.
"Tell me Adi, when I came to your room the other day, weren't you tensed
about something? I have noticed that since then you are hardly your usual
self, what is the matter? Please be honest and tell me whatever it is, maybe we can do something about it," said Maan.
Adi fell silent for a moment deciding whether to tell Maan about it and
then he said, "Princess Sasha."
Maan was confused. "Sasha?" Adi nodded and narrated the incident that had
transpired that day and Maan was shocked and hurt at the same time.
"So I couldn't ask Princess Pinakini about the Riverside girl either, I'm
sorry," said Adi.
"Why didn't you tell me about this before?" asked Maan.
"Initially I thought that she would get over it but as days pass, she always keeps searching for a chance to insult Pinky ji," replied Adi.
Maan didn't know why would Sasha do such a thing but he trusted Adi more
than himself and knew that whatever he had just heard couldn't be wrong. He
promised Adi that he would talk to Sasha soon and then Adi brought up the
Riverside girl again and Maan narrated all that had happened since the first night that they had met in the palace. Adi was surprised and delighted to hear about it and congratulated Maan and promised him to help for the arrangements of the evening.
