PAST

Ever since he was a child, he heard from friends and family that he has a temper, that he gets angry easily, nor did he contradict. He could not tolerate anything that did not go according to his wishes, since these things happened quite often, he used to get angry as well.

But the boiling rage he felt in his veins this moment even surprised him.

He left an all important meeting mid-way and rushed to this college, as per his grandmother's wish, and instead of a deserving welcome, he gets to hear curses.

He could have strangled this girl with his bare hands, but his upbringing forbad him from hurting her physically, but the moment he felt her turning, he was ready to erupt.

But then something happened''.her eyes.

She had a confused and slightly fearful look on her flawless face, her lips were parted out of apprehension, her small nose crunched and her eyes searched his soul. He had seen beautiful women of kinds around himself, but she was nothing like anyone.

Just the fact that a simple human face can have this kind of effect on him, scared him.

Then he heard her speak,

"Hello Sir, are you looking for someone?"

Just as he was about to open his mouth, he heard the Principal of the college address him,

"Oh Hello Maan, I thought you would not be able to make it"

"Hello Sir, I am sorry I am late"

"Oh no not at all, you still have the second half to make an appearance"

By this time, Geet had a sinking feeling in her stomach, was he'.

"Uh Geet'", she heard the Principal speak, "meet Mr. Maan Singh Khurana, our Chief Guest for the evening."

Geet now understood, why sometimes people want the ground to split and swallow them inside, she wanted the same thing right now. Not only he has arrived when the menu had nothing of Italian, he has heard her cursing him of all the weirdest things possible.

The Principal wanted to break the awkward silence,

"Maan, meet Geet. She has done the arrangement for tonight and I must say everything is perfect. Well lets go."

With that said, he escorted Maan to the function hall and Geet stood rooted to the spot. But she could feel her skin burn with a look he lingered on her face before following the Principal.

For the n-th time in the day, and for once from the core of her heart, she wanted to die.

Maan settled down in his seat at the front row. He was hardly paying any attention on the play being staged. His mind was occupied with her thoughts. But in addition to all kinds of emotions some he did not want to admit even to himself, he was confused and curious.

Why was the girl cursing him, when they have not met even once? The arrangements were perfect, so that could not be a reason, so what was it. His train of thoughts was broken by the thunderous applause that marked the end of the play and the function as well.

Finally it was the time for dinner. Geet was thinking about her last wish, doing her Ph.D., but that would remain a dream because she would not live to see the day tomorrow.

With shaky legs she stepped into the Cafeteria and searched for the Chief Guest and his expressions when he would see the menu.

But what she saw took her breath away.

He was happily munching on the food and conversing with the junior most students of the college who looked at him with awe. He was sharing stories when he used to be in college, advising them and most importantly, inspiring them just with his presence. He did not even flinch once while he had the food and seemed totally at ease.

It was almost midnight. She had to wrap up everything and she was late. Every day it was Meera who dropped her home, so she conveniently forgot about time as per habit. Now it struck her, Meera was in Mumbai and she had to go alone. Both her college and home were in decent localities, so she wasn't worried. The only thing that bothered her was the fact if she would get a taxi at this time.

Hoping against hope, she flung her bag over her shoulder and stepped on the sidewalk and waited for some kind of transportation.

It was just not his day. First a half-cancelled meeting, a romantic melodramatic play, Indian dinner and now a broken car.

Just when he was about to curse, a pair of eyes flashed'.and immediately he reconsidered, the day was not bad at all.

He got rid of his waist coat and tie, flung them on the back-seat of his car, loosened his shirt buttons, rolled his sleeves and started fixing his car. After fifteen agonizing minutes, the engine roared and he sighed.

Just when he got on the driver's seat and about to start, his eyes fell on the same white-salwaar clad girl standing on a side-walk, probably waiting for a ride.

People came to him, it was never the other way round, but he could not stop himself this time. He drove the car, only to stop in front of her. She looked surprised. And before he knew, he rolled down the window, and offered,

"Lift?"

PRESENT

Maan loved his siblings with all his heart, but this very moment, he could kill Yash without any second thoughts. Geet was hysterical. She did not even want to think about her friends' reaction when they would see Maan in her room behind locked doors.

"Maan, Yash is here", she said in a hurried whisper.

"Yes, I can hear him", he replied irritated.

"How can you be so cool about this, what will we do now?"

"What does people do when someone knocks, Geet, open the door"

"Are you insane, he will see us"

"He has a pair of eyes Geet, of course he will see us"

Geet wanted to strangle him, but this was not the time,

"Just hide below the bed, no no, its too small, he will see your legs, ok jump from the window, no, what if you break something of yours'..great, go hide in the bathroom.."

"What is it with you and bathrooms Geet, every time you don't want me around you, you send me to the bathroom, remember?"

Their first meeting flashed in front of her eyes, and she could not stop but smile even in this situation.

"But Maan'"

"Maan Singh Khurana never hides Geet, who knows better than you do."

With that said he strode towards the door and to Geet's horror, opened the door himself.

Yash was about to say something but froze,

"Bhai?"
