A Maaneet Tale

Chapter 15

I enhaled sharply as I felt the pain wash over my body.

Sameera: "Too bad you didn't have cancer. At least I didn't have to kill you this way" she said and smirked.

I saw her strut her way to the exit to Khurana Mansion. She didn't even look back towards me and I felt my knees wobble.

The pain was so sharp, I was scared to even breath.

"Daadima" I tried to yell out but it only came out as I tiny squeak. I couldn't move, my body was paralyzed on the spot.

I felt tears escape my eyes as I stood there in pain, unable to move.

I saw Maan come inside and he smiled when he saw me.

I couldn't tell him that I was in pain.

So I just smiled back.

I smiled when I saw her. She must have been waiting for me all this time. How sweet of her.

Geet: "Your back" she said and smiled, but her voice trembled slightly. I ignored it, thinking it might just be my imagination.

"I'm back. To my beautiful angel" I said and went over to hug her but she stopped me with her trembling hand.

I realized she was actually trembling. It wasn't my imagination.

"I won't be here for long..." she said and enhaled sharply

My smile faltered as I took in what she said. What was she trying to say?

"I might go far away from you. So far, that you won't be able to reach --" she cut off and stiffled another gasp. She put her hand to heart and swallowed.

I looked at her in horror as she limped towards me. Why was she limping, what had happened?

An eery silence engulfed the atmosphere as she limped towards me. I could hear a faint dripping noise and I narrowed my eyes and concentrated on the sound.

Drip... Drip... Drip...

And as she limped towards me, she left a trail of blood behind.

My breath was stuck in my throat as she finally fell on me. I knelt down to the ground and held her in my arms.

My hands travelled around her back and I froze when I felt something.

A knife.

A knife was stuck in her back.

I felt like my heart was taken away from me as I stared into Geet's eyes which were filled with pain and tears.

I held the end of her dubatta and my hold turned into a tight grip as I trembled in anger. I could feel the volcano literally erupt from the bottom to the top.

"Who did this?" I asked in agony as I held her limp body in my arms.

Geet: "S... Sam... Sameera" she whispered and swallowed.

Geet: "She ca... Came... Hugged m... me, and then sta..stabbed me" she said and breathed heavily for oxygen.

Daadima: "Geet Beta!" she exclaimed and I saw Daadima run down the stairs. She knelt down beside me. I wanted to call the ambulance but my hands failed. My hands felt numb as I watched her struggle between the jaws of death.

So Daadima called the ambulance, for me.

I clenched my fists.

"Take her to the hospital. I need to deal with something" I said through gritted teeth and stood up.

I instantly knew what I had to do.

I ran up to the flat of her stairs two at a time and rang the doorbell. She didn't answer but I knew she was in there because I could hear voices.

Of her, and another man.

I grounded my teeth together and broke the door open.

"GET OUT!" I ordered the man angrily and glared dangerously at him. He immediately backed away and left. I locked the door behind him and then turned to Sameera.

"Wow, you really love me now don't you? You really want me back now don't you? You really regret it all don't you? DON'T YOU?!" I yelled and paced up and down as she watched me in horror. I didn't care what she thought of me.

Sameera: "I --"

"If you do, then what were you doing with that man? That's the same man I saw you kissing almost three and a half years ago. I thought you wanted me BACK" I hissed the last word and looked at her with full anger and hatred.

"You know, I almost thought about coming back to you BUT" I quickly said the word at the end and pointed at her so she didn't get any wrong ideas.

"But Geet. She put some sense into me! You know when I saw her dying? I felt PAIN. Right here!" I said and slammed my fist into the place my heart was located in. I hurt myself, but I knew Geet was in more pain right now than I was.

"Why did I meet you in the first place? Why did I ever love you? Why did I ever love a disgusting, characterless woman like you? ANSWER ME!" I yelled and banged my fist on the wall.

Sameera took a step backwards and flinched. I had never felt so angry before in my life. I had never felt so much in agony in my life, I had never felt so irritated, frusterated, and upset in my whole life.

When I knew Sameera couldn't answer any of my questions, I turned to look at her with as much hatred and anger as I could. She widened her eyes and took another step back.

"Why did you stab her? She was ALREADY, fighting the jaws of death and when we heard some good NEWS, you tried to MURDER her?" I said the word 'murder' in a whisper.

She didn't answer me.

"Why don't you answer my questions, DAMN IT!" I shouted at the top of my lungs and banged my fist against the wall again. I banged it hard enough to cause the sides of my hands go numb and purple. My knuckles were white as paper as I breathed heavily.

"ANSWER MY --"

Sameera: "I hate her! Okay! I HATE HER! Why is she so BEAUTIFUL? Why is she so much BETTER? Why is she so... So GOOD?" she yelled from across the room and put her hands on her head.

Sameera: "I HAVE JUST AS MANY QUESTIONS" she shouted and began to pull at her hair.

Sameera: "I thought this was ARRANGED. Why were you KISSING in the hospital?" she said the word 'kissing' as if it was filth.

"I love her. THAT'S WHY. She made me realize my love for her!"

Sameera: "She wants you for her money. DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?! She's using you! I could give you a much better life and --"

"SHUT YOUR FILTHY MOUTH" I yelled and banged the wall with my fist again. This time, it formed a crack.

"I would still love her, even if I turned up living on the streets" I said and breathed heavily. My anger was out of control now. I had to get out of this room before I did something extremly wrong.

I marched up to her and held her by the shoulders.

"I... HATE... YOU" I snarled and pushed her away from me like a smelly dustbin. She ended up falling on the radiator and hurting her head. She squealed in pain.

"Good! Very GOOD! You deserve more pain! You know I could stab you here and chop you to bits and feed you to the birds and dogs but... I'm not SELFISH" I spat the last word and stormed out of there, slamming the door behind me. I could hear her call out my name but I ignored her calls. I skipped down the stairs and saw the man that was in her room climb upstairs. He froze when he saw me and I gave him the hardest slap I could ever muster. I could see his cheek form the shape of my fingers and turn red. Satisfied, I headed down the stairs again.

I sat inside my car and slammed the door as hard as I could. I needed to take my anger out on something.

That building now suffocated me and made me feel sick. I could already feel nausea gurgling in my stomach as I looked at the building in front of me.

I needed to take the anger that was left inside me out. I bit my cheeks to prevent me from screaming but I couldn't control myself. I screamed as loud as I could and banged my head on the steering wheel.

Then I started sobbing. This was not fair. God stole my parents' away from me and now he was stealing the most precious object of my life away from me again.

"Not FAIR!" I yelled and banged my fist on the steering wheel and I started to sob uncontrollably. It hit me like a hurricane and I sobbed.

I cried for what seemed like 7 minutes when my mobile phone rang. I stopped crying and wiped my tears away. I had to be strong.

"Hello" I said and tried to muster the strongest voice I could possibly muster.

But when I heard it was Daadima, my voice went all shaky again.

Daadima: "She's fine. The knife didn't hit her hard. They are doing stitches to seal the wound up. Maan, please come to the City Hospital. The police want to speak to you. They want to take your statement" she said, happy at the start and worried at the end.

"I'll be there" I said and switched my mobile phone off. I didn't need important meeting calls or business attendants to call me when my wife was at the hospital.

I took off from the parking lot and started to drive towards the desired direction.
