my sincere thanks to all who have supported n encouraged me to write... its only due to their constant urge i am updating this chapter... so here it goes...
Niru was all smiles when she walked away from the beach... she was happy... she could still feel the sensation of his lips on hers... how she wished time stood still that moment... she then shied away thinking about her thoughts... she couldn't help it... true, she was going to meet Sarja, but her mind heart, mind and soul were still with chandu... she kept walking as her mind went back into the past...
She dint know where to take her baba... sharda had shut the doors on their faces...she had no hope... she was crying and was desperate... what would she do? Where would she go? What would they eat? All these thoughts were running on her mind... and as she was walking, she heard out a voice.
"Suniye... itni raat ko aap apne father ke saath kahan jaa rahi hain? Yeh Mumbai hai, yahan par aap bina kisiki madad liye, survive nahi kar sakti... aap kahein toh main aapko chod doon?"
"jee nahi... woh... hume khud nahi maaloom ke hum kahan jaa rahein hain... aap rehne deejiye. Humari wajah se bewajah aapko takleef hogi..."
"nayi ho Mumbai main? Kya kaam karti ho? Aur rehti kahan ho"
"aaj hi aayein hain, na kaam hai aur na rehne ki jagah... jaayein bhi toh kahan jaayein? Didi ne bhi ghar se nikaal diya... baba ka ilaaj karaana hai aur..." and suddenly she realized she was talking too much to a stranger... her expressions changed...
"kya hua? Aap ruk kyun gayi? Arrey dariye mat... hum aapko naukri dengey aur rehne ke liye jagah bhi... chinta mat kijiye... aap chaliye humare sath..."
"jee hum??? Woh... " she hesitated...
"arrey aap galat mat sochiye... hume bhi kuch log chahiye jo kaam karein...humara hotel hai... toh kya aap wahan kaam karenge??"
Niru was delighted... god had heard her prayers... he had sent an angel to her aid...
"jee zaroor... hum kaam karenge.. kab aa sakte hain?"
"arrey abhi chaliye... waise bhi, raat ko rehne ke liye bhi toh jagah chahiye..."
"jee thik hai... waise aapka naam kya hai? Humara naam nirupama hai aur yeh mere baba hai..."
"Nirupama... kitna acchha naam hai... waise mera naam albela CHAMAN hai.. pyar se log mujhe AC bulate hain..."
"jee albelaji... aapka bahut bahut shukriya... aap hume kaam de rahe hain.. aur rehne ke liye jagah..."
"arrey arrey nirupamaji, aap hume sharminda kar rahe hai... abhi chaliye, warna hum sab musibat mein pad sakte hai..."
All three of them walked towards Albela's hotel ... Hotel Chameli... it was a cheap looking hotel and the ladies were all out on the streets waiting for men to come and pick them up... yes... it was a brothel... Niru's eyes grew wide in horror.. what had she gotten herself into??
"jee humein yahan kaam nahi karna hai... baba chaliye yahan se.." she stated firmly...
"arrey niruji, aap kahan jaa rahi hain?? arrey arrey, aap bhi na...Aapko inke saath kaam nahi karna.. apko toh hotel mein kaam karna hai.. aapko toh bas customer ka order leke, unka khana unke table tak pahunchaana hai... bas..."
"nahi, hum kahin aur naukri doondh lenge..."
"kahan jaayengi aap? Kaun hai is shehar mein jo aapki madad karega?? Aapki bhalaai isi mein hai ki aap yahan kaam karein..."
"aur agar hum mana kardein toh..."
"toh aapko in jaise logon se koi nahi bacha sakta..." albela said pointing to some drunk men who had come to pick up the prostitutes to "spend" the night with them...
Niru was in a dilemma. She could neither say yes, nor no. Then she saw her baba. She thought about his medication and stuff...
"thik hai, hum tayyar hain. Lekin hum sirf khana parosne ka kaam karenge. In sab ki tarah nahi..."
"arrey niruji, aapko in bazari aurton ki tarah kaam nahi karna hai... bas khana parosne ka hi kaam karna hai... chaliye main aapko aapka karma dikhata hoon, aapke bauji aaram kar sakte hain, aur aap kaam shuru kar sakte hain..."
"thik hai, chaliye"
she hesitatingly took her baba and went with albela, who showed them their room. It was quite sufficient for the two of them. It had a bed and an extra mattress with all the required necessities. She thanked god that this noble person had helped her in the middle of the night...
"baba aap aaram kijiye, hum thoda kaam karke aate hain"
"accha thik hai, bitiya suno.." Niru turns to her baba... "aate waqt kuch meetha leke aana, woh kya hain na, hum uss sharda jaisi dikhne wali chudail ke saath nahi reh rahe hain na, iss liye hum bahut khush hain... leke aana haan, yaad se" her baba spoke upto her.
"ji baba.." she smiled at his innocence...
"Niruji, chalein?" albela said, ever smiling. Niru walked downstairs to the hotel.
"kuch zyada nahi karna hai, yahan ke customer ke khane-peene ka order lena hai, bas... jaisa kehte hain waisa karna. Thik hai???"
"ji hum koshish karenge"
She looks at the people in the hotel. All were drunk to the brim. Some of them were fallen off the chair. She saw a waitress taking the order of a drunk man, and the man was misbehaving and passing lewd comments on her body...
"hey bhagwan, yeh hum kahan phas gaye?" she thought...
But when she thought of her baba, she brushed away all the other thoughts...
She worked in the hotel as a waitress. She did have to face trouble from drunkards and receive lustful looks from men, but all she had in mind was her baba. She did this only for her baba...
A month had passed and she had got her first salary... she went to the temple and offered her offering to God. When she returned, she saw the room ion a complete mess and her baba sitting in the corner of the room... he was perspiring and was scared...
"baba kya hua..." she screamed as she ran towards him and hugged him...
"main batata hoon niruji" albela said as he came into the room...
"aap yahan? Kya hua albelaji? Yeh sara samaan??? Aise bikhra hua??"
"khud galti karti hain, aur humse poochti hain... wah re wah...humare customer ne complain kiya, aapne usey kal thappad mara. Kyun???" he yelled at her...
"woh humare sath battameezi kar rahe the, keh rahe the ke main unke saath chali jaaun kyunki woh...woh humare saath..."
"raath bitana chahte the??" albela completed her sentence. Niru was shocked.
"ji, aur sirf itna nahi, unhone humara haath pakda..."
"itni si baat ke liye thappad mara? Woh toh accha hua ke woh humare acche dost hain, warna itna accha customer haath se chala jaata... aage se yeh sab nahi chalega... maine pehle din hi kaha tha, jaisa nolte hain, waisa karo... tumse nahi hota, toh kisi aur ko rakhloonga... "
And before Niru could say something, albela stormed out of the room. And Niru decided what she had to do next. She decided to quit the job...
"jaake bol doongi albelaji ko, nahi karni hai aisi naukri, jahan hume do waqt ke khaane ke liye, apni izzat gawani ho..."
Little did she know what was waiting next for her...
