I hurried and got into my car! It was already 11:30 a.m and traffic in Palo Alto NEVER calms down! In fact, traffic in California NEVER calms down! But that's the beauty!
It'd always been a dream to live in this state, not that I hated any other states'but this state gave me bigger of an independence '
&& ofcourse Cali = PAARTY :) No one, NO ONE wanna be missing out on that!
I backed out of the parking lot, almost into a Yellow Mustang'
"Ooops."
I quickly drove out of the compound of my apartment, and straight till the red stoplight.
"Ugggh, stupid stoplight."
I soon found myself tapping my feet on the gas pedaaal'I am NOT a patient person.
Armaan
Gotta love the traffic in California; I know I do. Makes me feel like I actually do something in life'Not that I don't.
What do I do for a living? Finishing up MBA so I can take over dad's business.
It's actually not as bad as it seems..I've always been into business and all, but I just hate school. I just hate sitting there in front of the oldies whom you can BARELY hear talk about something'
&& pisses me off the most is when they start their own family history. Someone tell those "bhoodes" that weren't interested in how many times they got married, or how many najayez baache they have!
I REALLY don't care, but I try to be nice to everyone'on the name of Humanity of course.
Finally made it to the cricket ground. Cricket wasn't a career thing for me, it was just a hobby'a way to stay connected with my country. And now that India even won the World Cup, it's of a higher demand here. And to spend time with my dude. Rahul :)
"Finally Mr. Late Latif! Made it to the ground!", he walked over to me.
"Sorry man, traffic'you know the drill", I winked at him!
"Haan haan, zyaada natak na kariyo'chaal", he led me by my shoulders.
Shilpa
Why does this place have such LITTLE PARKING PLACE! It's a freaking hospital!
F man!
Finally, I found a parking spot, and hurriedly parked.
I pulled my purse, file, and my Starbucks coffee mug and paced! I HATE being late, even though I was 10 mins early'I still liked being there 15 mins before! Idk, just an old habit of mine.
"10 minutes on the clock, Ms. Shilpa", a voice called me.
"Yeah yeah yeah, I know, Ms.Muskaan", a turned to see a beautiful girl with perfect curly hair.
"Oh sorry sorry, aaj toh madam late haina!", she laughed.
"Oh shut up, Musks."
"Waise aaj ke 5 mins aise waste mein kaise?", she asked
"Kuch nahin, chod', I thought about how I spent those 5 minutes talking to myself in my bed about him.
"Jhooti", she hit me!
I just ignored her and kept walking towards the nurse station.
"Pediatric Code Blue! Team activation", the PA system called out.
"Pediatric Code Blue! Team activation!"
"Pediatric Code Blue! Team activation!"
We both took a glance at each other, and ran to the elevators, and rushed onto the Pediatric Floor.
We saw 2 nurses, and another woman running down the gurney down the hall to the first room.
Musks and I quickly put on our yellow clinical aprons, slipped on our gloves, and pulled out our stethoscopes onto our necks and dashed inside.
"Interns, get me the pulse quick, and Dr.Muskaan put him on Oxygen", the doctor yelled.
These are the situations I try to get myself trained for, and used to'but no matter how time each of these things keep happening, I can't; I cannot seem to NOT be in shock when emergencies happen.
"Bradycardia; the pulse is dropped 25 bpm from normal high range", I said quickly. "We need to put her on more oxygen", I went on.
Musks increased the level of oxygen, and patient seemed to calm down.
I just noticed the patient was she. She looked like a little 6 year old girl.
I sometimes hate my job. I hate seeing little children who are supposed to be living their life to the fullest, laying here in bed, fighting for their lives. The sad part is that it wasn't even their mistake'
Musks brought me back to life, as took my glance off of the girl and headed outside to the equipment cart to take everything off.
"It's ok", Musks patted me. I loved her for that. Always made it seem like this was normal even though it wasn't; just how nature ran its course.
"Good job handling the situation interns", our senior doctor told us.
"I want you guys to work on the diagnosis case of this patient. Just a brief on her: she is a 5 year old, lives with a father who smokes, and has shown a record of trauma. Her name is Gracy, and she will be under the care of you two. I hope this opens things up a bit?"
We both just nodded, and gave her a yes. She took a glance before she left, and caressed our shoulders for not even a second before she left.
Armaan
"Oooye, bhaag bhaag! Ball uske haath mein nahin hain! BHAAG KHOTE!", I screamed at Rahul.
I swear to Lord this guy was the slowest thing EVER in the world. He might show a little bit of macho-ness, but man when this dude is in pressure NOTHING works out right. We only need 4 more runs to win, but this khotiya can't be trusted to hit a four.
"Ooye Rahul suun! Just hit the ball as HARD as you can, without hitting the stumps. Yeah?"
"You dumass, you don't think everyone tries to do that when they play cricket?"
"Loook, I don't know what people try to do when playing cricket, but when YOU play out there you look like some Walrus slash Penguin type thing acting like it's dying without food. You hit WORSE than a penguin, and penguin don't even play cricket, Rahul."
"Shut up fool. How do you even know what they do in Antractica?"
"Rahul, just shut the F up and go hit a 4, before I slap your face 4 damn times."
He started walking towards the pitch, looking pretty inspired.
The baller pitched, and BAM. It shouldn't like he seriously broke or cracked something in his Arm, but Dear Lord there went a 6!
"Kamina, Dhoni kii copy marta hain", I said to myself smile smirking.
"Haaye, mera Jr.Dhoni! Yeh Junior World Cup jheet hi gaya? Hain?", I laughed at him.
"Chup kariyo, and take to me to my place ; I cannot even move my arms", he told me.
"Rahul, you know how gross that sounded?"
"You know what? Rheen de, I'll drive myself", he walked off on me.
"Rahul! Rahul! Ruk na yaar'Nautanki baaz", I whispered to myself.
I drove myself home, and dropped all my stuff in my play room to leave for a nice cold shower.
Got out, and didn't even get dressed and I found myself logging into Yahoo Messenger.
Goosh, why did I even do this? I didn't want to. Oh who am I kidding? Fighting with her was AWESOME. I smiled at a computer screen.
She was online..
I fought with my inner self if I should talk to her or not'and if she should talk to me first, and all the stupid chatting rules that apply.
And without thinking..
5:24 p.m
Me: Madoona jee, aakhe khuli hain?
5:25 p.m
QueenofHearts: Hmm..kya hain?
5:25 p.m
Me: Kya kya hain? Itnii rude kyon ho? Mera bhi dil hain..you don't have all the hearts you know?
5:29 p.m
Me: Oye, suno na!
5:31 p.m
QueenofHearts: Ammy, not right now kay? I'm working on a case. Let's talk when I get home? Please?
5:32 p.m
Me: Okay. No worries. Take Care, and ghar safely pohoch jaana. Kidnaap hoke maat phone karna. Chaal bye.
5:32 p.m
QueenofHearts: Thank you :) You take care too. Bye.
I took a deep sigh'
