Chapter Nine
(Our First Fight)
Maan and Geet were in his office talking over and then suddenly, Dr Yash ran in and he said, " Dr. Maan Dr. Geet! come quickly!". Maan and Geet looked at eachother and dropped their things. They both ran out with Yash towards the childrens wing and into the room... they found the two interns, Dr. Armaan and Dr. Shilpa panicking because the child was bleeding profously... and Maan ran towards the machine... he saw the child go completely cold... he said, " Nurse! we need to take him in surgery.. NOW.. Dr. Geet! please assist me!".
Geet nodded and they all rushed the child into the surgery room. Maan and Geet both got ready for the surgery... " Its the heart.. its not responding again... we need a transplant NOW.. and.. it needs to be removed NOW..." said Maan. Geet nodded and they started the surgery... The child was probably only eight or nine... and while Geet was assisting Maan in the surgery... she saw his face go completely cold... she had never seen this before from him.
She took her attention off and she helped Maan in taking out the heart and transplanting another one into the child... The child was going to die if they weren't going to give a heart transplant. Finally after 6 hours... the stressful surgery was taken care of and Maan cleaned up around him and The surgery was over. Geet washed her hands and took off her plastic scrub for surgery. She saw Maan at the other sink still in that sullen expression... as if he was upset about something. Maan and Geet both came out and Maan said, " Dr. Geet... please go look over the interns..." Geet nodded but she had the urge to stop him... to ask him what was wrong... clearly something was bothering him.
"Dr. Maan?" called Geet. Maan stopped and turned around, " Yes Dr. Geet?". Geet walked upto him and she said, " Is there anything bothering you?" Maan looked a little more frustrated with her questions. " None of your business" said Maan coldly. Geet was caught off guard with that but she knew that he was like that so she pushed it a little further with him, " Clearly you are hiding something from me... I answered all your questions Dr. Maan when you asked me..." Maan glared at her, " I never told you to give me a big story..."
Geet looked at him with surprise and raised an eye brow, " Excuse me?" "Tumne suna nahi? I never told you to tell me your big life story... I was never interested in hearing it..." said Maan saracastically. " Dr. Maan!" said Geet with anger. " Don't show me attitude Dr. Geet... you heard what I said... go off.. now..." said Maan with equal anger. Geet stepped back and she said, " People like you never learn... you stay miserable all your life! because what? you make one mistake and you make it your whole life! Grow up Dr. Maan... grow up!". She looked at him with anger and she stormed off the other way.
Maan snickered, " Please... itni nautanki? seriously... get reall.." He rolled his eyes and he pretended as if her words didn't hit him straight in the heart. It definitely did. He stormed off the opposite way. From far, the interns were listening in and they looked completely serious. " Whoa! koi to mila.. Maan sir ki takkar mein" said Shilpa. " I didn't know that a sweet person like her could say something so bitter to him..." said Sonali.
" Psht.. he deserved it... anger management classes is what he needs" said Armaan rolling his eyes. " Seriously dude.. bechari Geet maam... she just wanted to ask him if everything was okay.. and what did that khadoos do? totally shrug her off like a bug" said Rahul. " Jo bhi hai yaar.. we should go see if Geet maam is okay.. woh khadoos khurana to hus raha hoga... by hurting Geet maam" said Shilpa. The interns agreed and they went off towards the lockerroom.
Geet was sitting there still trying to calm herself and she heard the interns coming in. She looked at them with a serious expression, " Is there any problem?" The interns nodded in "No". " So? why are you here? aren't suppose to be at your duties" said Geet with one eyebrow up. " Woh maam... we overheard your conversation with Dr. Maan... and we were coming in to see if you're doing okay." said Shilpa. Geet couldn't help but smile a little, " Thanks for your concern my lovely interns... you should go now... I'm fine." "Are you sure maam?" said Armaan. Geet nodded and the interns went off towards their duties. She smiled to herself, " Khadoos... main bhi itni pagal hoon... why would I want to know..." She rolled her eyes and she took her clipboard and went towards the wards to check on the interns.
Maan sat in his office thinking about the bitter words that he said to Geet. " Maan... she shared her pain with you and you? you just told her to get lost when you needed to share it as well" thought Maan. " What the hell? since when have you gotten emotional Maan Singh Khurana" thought Maan again. His heart and mind were fighting against one another... " Please.. all girls do is cry... and the more you wipe their tears... you get emotional and they trap you... in their emotions... and they cry even more!" thought Maan again. He sneered and went back to his work...
Geet came home that day in a bad mood because of her encounter with Maan. She came into her house and yelled, " UGGHH MEERA.. KHADOOS.. SARU.. DUSHT DHANAV... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHH DIL CHAHTA HAI KAY... HAYEE RABBAA.. SO IRRITATING!" Meera walked out of the living room and she stood there with her arms crossed, " Kya hua Geet.. tu chila kyun rahi hai?" " Meera! omg! i had the worst day of my life.." said Geet as she walked into the living room and threw her bag on the floor. " Irriating... he should be in an mental asylum!" said Geet rolling her eyes. " Apna blood pressure na barha.. bata.. kya hua" said Meera. Geet told Meera what had happened in their encounter. All Meera could do is smile. Geet looked at her and said, " muskurari kyun hai?". " Kyunki tu pagal hai" said Meera with a laugh.
" I'm crazy?" said Geet with one eyebrow up. "Haan tu pagal hain... koi aisa poochta hai kya? of course someone would react like that... he was probably going through a tough time and you made it even more difficult" said Meera. " Tu uski tarafdaari kar rahi hai.. Meera! W*H!" said Geet. " Geet.. tu kuch bhi samaj le... par you should have asked him later when he cooled down from the stressful surgery". Geet nodded and thought about it for a bit and she still said, " I don't care.. saru.. khadoos.. kabhi maaf nahi karongi.. just for that..." Meera laughed, " Acha.. ghussa chor de.. chal aaja.. khana kha le.. bhook lag rahi hai". Geet nodded and the girls headed off towards the kitchen to eat.
The next day ran as usual... Geet wasn't talking to Maan at all... She ignored his presence and it started to bother Maan. He didn't know why it bothered him so much. Geet and Maan walked towards the front counter to give the duties for the day. She walked beside him not saying a word... just looking straight ahead. Maan rolled his eyes, " Nautanki" he mumbled. Geet heard it and she said, " Dusht Dhanav!" under her breath. They both glared at eachother and looked straight ahead. They reached the front to find the interns lined up in pairs...
"Good morning my lovely interns! here are your duties! please read them carefully and you will be evaluated by Dr. Maan and myself today! and then the next month will be your exams... and we also like to tell you that two new interns will be coming in to join you!" chirped Geet with her usual smile. Maan rolled his eyes, " How annoying" he mumbled. Geet pretended not to hear that and she continued," Her name is Dr. Nikita or commonly known as Dr. Nikki and the other intern is Dr. Veer". Shilpa raised her hand and Geet said, " Yes shilpa?". " When will she come?" said Shilpa.
Geet smiled, " They will both be coming in tomorrow... and now please read your duties and get going! have fun guys!". They smiled," Ji maam.." Geet nodded and she walked passed Maan giving him a dirty look. She stormed off and Maan said, " Nautanki ko khush karna parega kya?". Maan rolled his eyes and he went after Geet...
"Dr. Geet!" called Maan as he ran to catch up to her. She didn't respond and he ran a little faster to catch up to her and he said, " Listen.. jo bhi mainay kal kaha tha.. ghussay mein kaha tha.. to-" began Maan. Geet stopped and raised and eyebrow, " To?" "To... yeah.. just had to clear the air" said Maan looking around. " Dr. Maan... you really don't know how to properly apologize!" said Geet. " I don't need to apologize to you" said Maan in frustration. " So? you go do your work Dr. Maan... I'll go do mine" said Geet. She smiled sarcastically and she stormed off leaving Maan a little angry.
Maan walked off towards his office and as he entered, he noticed a person sitting in his office. He looked at the person and he said, " Veer?" Veer stood up and smiled, " Hey Maan bhai". " Hi Veer.. kaisay ho? tumne kal aana tha na?" said Maan casually. Veer smiled and said, " Yeah bro.. par dadimaa insisted that I come a little early so I could get settled in". Maan said, " Sit down Veer". " And.. how is Ashlesha didi doing?". Veer smiled and sat down, " Didi is good... she always says, " I wish Maan bhaiya would come and stay in Jaipur with the family soon"..
Suddenly, Geet came in and she said, " Dr.Maan-". Veer turned around and saw Geet... and he smiled. Geet looked at him and smiled... Maan looked at her with annoyance and said, " Kya hua Dr. Geet". " Woh... Dr. Nikita is in my office and she wants to start a little early" said Geet. " Why? is she anything special" said Maan sarcastically. Geet squinted her eyes and raised an eyebrow, " Yes... she is like my younger sister.. we grew up in the same orphanage BTW". Maan looked at her with amusement, " Oh really now?" " Yes... and she studied in London and is doing her medical school here... and I know her." said Geet confidently. " Well Dr. Geet.. since you have the hearts of everyone.. then do as you please... why would you ask me?" snapped Maan. " Dr. Maan... don't create a scene here and well hello to you too sir" said Geet.Veer smiled and said, " Hi Dr. Geet... I'm Veer". " Oh hello...nice to meet you" smiled Geet as she shook his hand. " Welcome to the Sanjeevani team Dr. Veer" smiled Geet.
"Since our two new interns are here... then we can start them off today" said Maan. " Whatever you say" said Geet. Veer laughed, " Maan bhai... I'll see you later. " Maan bhai" thought Geet. " Oh btw.. this is my cousin Veer... he's something special too" said Maan sarcastically to get Geet back for her nasty comment. Geet smiled fakely, " Oh thats nice to know... atleast someone in your family knows how to smile". She squinted her eyes at him and mumbled something and she stormed out of the room. Maan rolled his eyes, " Nautanki.. yeh ladki mujhe pagal kardegi". Veer laughed, " Maan bhai.. I'll go... and lighten up.. Dr. Geet sounds like a very warm person..." Maan glared at him and Veer shut up and he left the room.
