Part 8:Maan & Geet had been walking for hours, and there was no end in sight to the jungle. Maan walked ahead, with Geet trailing along behind. She wanted to apologise about earlier, but she was afraid he'd get angry again. She didn't like seeing him like this. Since when have I started caring about Maan sir? she thought.
Still, she didn't want him to be mad at her, especially now that they had to find a way out. Two heads were better than one.
"Maan sir," she said quietly.
"What?" he snapped, turning to face Geet.
"I'm sorry," she said softly, & all of Maan's anger faded. How could he remain angry at a pure & innocent being like Geet?
"I had no right to ask you about your past life," she continued.
"It won't happen again."Maan was completely lost in Geet's eyes, & Geet found herself staring into the depths of his eyes too... Geet broke away first, looking around, suddenly feeling very warm & flustered. Maan looked away, his back to Geet.
"Does that mean you forgive me?" asked Geet. Maan simply nodded once & began walking again. She hurried to catch up. Maan pulled out his phone, but there was no signal.
"Damn!," he cursed. "There has to be a way out, Maan Singh Khurana finds a way out for everything."
"I told you we should pray to Babaji..." muttered Geet.
"What did you say?"
"I said, if we try praying to Babaji... we might find a way out."Maan rolled his eyes.
"Oh really? How? Will a magical path appear out of nowhere?"
"Sir, have a little faith. Follow me."Geet sat underneath a tree & joined her hands. She closed her eyes & began praying. Maan looked surprised at Geet's antics, he had one eyebrow raised. Geet opened one eye & saw Maan's expression.
"Sir! Come on, what harm will praying for help do? Sit opposite me."
"Geet, you really do need mental help."Geet scoffed.
"At least I'm trying to find a way out, unlike you. Cursing & kicking stones out of the way won't solve anything. Are you going to pray or not?"He sighed as he sat opposite Geet, his legs crossed. He reluctantly joined his hands together, feeling a little silly.
"Copy what I say," said Geet, eyes closed.
"Babaji."Silence.
"Maan sir, come on, say it!"
"I know how to pray, Geet."
"It doesn't seem like you do it very often..."
"Excuse me?"Geet opened her eyes.
"You're so angry all the time. If you prayed more often, the anger would decrease. You'd find yourself at ease, at peace, enjoying life...""Geet!" Maan said, annoyed.
"Are we going to pray or not?"
"Oh, right, yes. Close your eyes. Let's start again. Babaji.""Babaji," Maan muttered.
"Louder! Or else he might not be able to hear."
"What are you-"
"Shh! Say it again, louder."
"Babaji."
"Good. Show us a way out of this jungle. Please.""Show us a way out of this jungle, please." Maan opened his eyes.
"Now what do we do? Wait?"Geet shook her head as she stood up, dusting dirt off her clothes.
"No, we go out & start walking again.""So what was the point in praying?"
"So that we get some guidance! Babaji, what will become of him? He doesn't understand simple things!"
"I don't understand simple things? That's you, Miss Geet Handa!"
"I'm trying to be of some use here, Mr Maan Singh Khurana!"An annoyed Geet started looking around the jungle whilst Maan ranted on, when something caught her eye. In the faint distance, she saw a car going past.
"Maan sir!" she squealed, almost jumping up & down in delight.
"A road! I can see a road!"Maan walked a bit ahead - there was definetly signs of a road ahead, as you could faintly see cars going past.
"Geet, hurry!" he called as he began walking at an impossible speed.
"Sir, you could have at least wait for me! I'm the one who discovered the road! See, all the praying helped! I told you, sir!"Maan ignored her & continued walking fast, leaving Geet to catch up quickly behind him.
An hour later, Maan & Geet were out of the jungle, had hailed a taxi along the road & were on their way to the hotel. It was now well past midnight.
"So," asked the taxi driver, adjusting his mirror to get a good look at Geet, who was peering out of the window.
"What were you two lovebirds up to in the jungle then, at this time of the night? Going to the hotel room for a bit of private time now, eh?"Maan, who was sat in front, gave the driver an angry piercing look.
"Keep your dirty thoughts to yourself, it's nothing like that. Now shut up and do what you're employed for," he snapped.
"Otherwise I won't bother paying you for the fare." He leant out of his passenger seat to adjust the mirror away, so that the driver couldn't see Geet.
They got to the hotel, which was fancy, luxurious, & seemed expensive. After paying the driver, Maan joined Geet who was stood at the front of the steps in awe.
"Geet, once you've finished gawping, shall we go in?" he said. Geet nodded once, took a step but lost her balance and almost fell. Maan grabbed her by the waist, & got distracted by her beauty. He started gazing deep into her eyes, trying to seek out answers to all the questions he had. Geet looked directly back at him, but started feeling a little uncomfortable. She felt like she shouldn't be here, doing this, because of Sasha. So she cleared her throat & Maan snapped out of his moment, helping her stand straight again before leading the way into the hotel.
He passed a mirror, took a brief glance & was shocked. He looked like he'd just escaped a fight. His hair was a mess, there were dirt marks around his face & he looked half dead. How am I going to face Mr Sharma looking like this, he thought. He quickly walked off, trying to erase the dirt mark.
Geet also passed the same mirror a few seconds later, & her eyes widened in horror. She looked like a living zombie. Her hair looked like a haystack, she had big circles under her eyes & dirt marks smeared across her face, too. I can't go in front of an important client looking like this, she thought. She tried to smooth her hair down before joining Maan at the reception desk.
"We're here to meet Mr Sharma," said Maan to the receptionist.
"It's 1am," she said.
"I know that. I'm here for a business meeting. My name is Maan Singh Khurana."
"I'm sorry sir, but I can't disturb Mr Sharma at this time. You'll have to book a room for the night & meet him in the morning."Geet's eyes widened in shock. Maan looked nervous.
"Look, can you just call his room and inform him I'm here?"
The receptionist shook her head. "I apologise but I can't do that. Would you like a double room or a single?"
(How will Maan & Geet's overnight stay in the hotel turn out? Part 9 up soon!)
