Darkness fell over. She would be caught and dead, if she gives up now and she couldn't afford that. Tears rolled down her cheeks, and she did not try to stop them. Harshly, she rubbed away all her tears and concentrated on watching the road ahead. Her gaze wandered and settled on her little brother, sleeping peacefully near her. She realized almost immediately that she was shaking. Hatred and disgust overpowered sadness. She could feel her blood boiling, willing to kill every one of those, who had slaughtered her family members.
The world was no more a happy place, since it was now ruled by the stronger species-the vampires. Humanity was on the verge of extinction, since human beings were being captured and killed by them. The Gupta family was one of the lucky ones to escape the blood feud and hide themselves to safety. She had lost counting of the number of days she had been living in the cave with 35 other people. Their prime motive was survival and taking care of each other.
She was a content person, happily living with her family, until they had been discovered. It was nighttime, when the humans were all asleep, but they were awake-the filthy nocturnal leeches. She woke up to a chaotic situation, with people struggling to save their families. But they were stronger. Riddhima managed an escapade, while they were busy sucking her mothers blood. As instructed by her father, she picked up her sleeping little brother in her arms and used to back exit to leave the caves.
Various vehicles had been kept there, hidden, incase they had to vacate the caves in an emergency. She used one of those vehicles to drive them to safety. Quietly, she placed her little brother in the passenger seat and slipped out, while the rest was being murdered.
They would be dead by now, she cried harder. Every last drop of their blood would have been sucked out, terror and disgust filled in her at the same time.
The full moon shone dimly today, giving her no path of guidance. Everything seemed to go against her, since it soon began raining. With the rain drops clattering against the glass, it made it difficult for her to see.
She froze in shock, her eyes widened in fear, when she saw a dark figure standing in the middle of the road, at the distance. It was one of them, she could say. She had been caught too. She looked at her brother, on last time, deep asleep.
'It would be over soon. We will soon be with mama and dad, Neil.' She ran her fingers through his light brown hair, without realizing that her car had gone off road.
Horror-stricken, she screamed, on realizing that she was about the crash an enormous bolder ahead. But it was late, since the car in its full speed ran over the boulder and turned upside down.
Riddhima opened her eyes to find herself upside now. Nausea filled in her. Her vision was blurred and dizzy.
'Neil, Neil!' She screamed, her hands frantically searching around the seats. She sighed on finally finding what they needed.
'Riddhima, Riddhima!' Her little brother screamed, his small voice shaking in fear.
'What happened? Where's mama?'
'Shh' She managed to silent him, on realizing that the dark figure was nearing her. The next thing she knew was staring at the black boots.
'Well, hello there.' said a young, masculine voice, seemingly amused.
Riddhima was shaking in fear, when she saw him bending down. She let out a rush of air through her lungs, screaming as loudly as she could. But there was no one to hear her. None except the life sucking Vampires.
But she was wrong. Immediately, she saw the man in a black hood and boots running away. He was the fastest thing she had ever witnessed. One second here he was, ready to kill her, and the very next second he was out of sight. She couldn't see him. Her head began spinning wildly.
The last thing she knew, was staring at a pair of blue eyes, before everything went black.
'Armaan, I think you should see this.' They were in the woods, hunting, when his brother tracked something. Their Vampire ears heard a girl screaming, as he slowly walked to the car. The hunter, one of them, was thirsty for blood; Armaan could see his fangs and bloodshot eyes although at a distance.
'Wait, where are you going?' He stopped Rahul, who he knew, was about to rescue the girl.
'Going to help.' Armaan sighed. He had seen this coming- his generous brother trying to help humans. Rahul, Armaan's Vampire brother, hated being what he was. The last piece of his human memory, before he was turned, was Rahul trying to save his fiance Muskaan. He lay on the ground, bleeding profusely and helpless, as the love of his life was being dragged to hell. He couldn't do anything. This made Rahul take a oath that he wouldn't touch human blood and help each of them as much as he could.
Unlike Rahul, Armaan had no such resolutions in mind. He loved human blood and there was no way he was going to avoid it. Unlike Rahul, Armaan had no human memory left except one. Armaan faintly remembers looking at a pair of hazel green eyes, before everything went black. On asking Rahul about it, he found out that Rahul too didn't know anything about it. Weirdly, Rahul always avoided him when he began questioning about his human life.
This made him curious, curious to find out who he was. No more did he know himself. It was frustrating.
The dark figure disappeared soon. Armaan crouched down to see who the victim was.
'I'll get the boy out.' Saying so, Rahul immediately pulled out a young boy from the turned car.
'Get the girl, Armaan.' He instructed Armaan, before he disappeared in the woods.
He felt strange, strangely content. She looked into his eyes, worry etched in her expressions. She tried to fight, but was stuck. Her hazel green eyes caught his attention. He remembered them.
Before he could do anything else, she drifted to unconsciousness.
'Okay, calm down Armaan.' The blood in her limbs made his throat burn. He was thirsty. He took a deep breathe, trying to calm himself down.
Soon, he was able to pull her out of the car. Her scent made it difficult for him to control his thirst. Rahul wouldn't say anything, he thought. He would understand, Armaan consoled himself, as he felt his fang appears. Just when he was about to thrust his fangs in her bare neck, he saw her face, so peaceful and calm. Immediately, all his blood thirst vanished. No more was he blood thirsty, but suddenly feel his humanly emotions surfacing. He couldn't harm her, for some unknown reason. He felt vaguely familiar with this beautiful face. He couldn't bear the idea of sucking the life out of her. His long stopped, stone heart began beating.
