Maan left her.
Just like that.
He didn't want her anymore. He found someone else.
He had a stone brick expression on his face and turned around, his hand was placed on her waist. Before he left, he kissed the girl on the lips right in front of Geet.
Geet's bottom lip quivered.
He was leaving her.
The girl and Maan melted into the crowd, leaving her to pick up the shattered pieces of her heart herself.
But Geet didn't pick them up.
She left the glass pieces behind and ran after Maan. She wanted him back, she wanted him to comfort her again. She wanted him to rock her back and forth like he always does.
She finally saw the backside of Maan. She could tell it was Maan, because of his tousled jet black hair. His trademark white t-shirt, his wrinkled jeans, and his favourite converse.
But when she turned him around by holding his shoulder, it wasn't him. It was her. Geet couldn't see her face. It was smudged with black. Like someone did when someone made a mistake on a letter.
Her: "Maan is MINE" she said, even though Geet couldn't see her smile she could tell she was smiling in victory. She dodged the girl and then went off to find Maan again.
She saw the backside of him again and tapped him on the shoulder. It wasn't him. It was the girl again.
Her: "I love him and he loves me. He doesn't love you" she said
And suddenly, all the crowd turned into the girl.
Her: "He doesn't want you anymore" said the girl
Her: "He wants me. Not you" said the girl again
Her: "I'm beautiful. Your ugly"
Soon, her face which was smudged with black started to come off. She could see only her mouth. Not the rest of the face. She thought she was about to see who the girl's face was but she suddenly felt the soft crinkly sound of her pillow.
It turns out she didn't fall into a dreamless sleep after all.
Geet woke up, sweat trickling down her temple. She looked around frantically for Maan but she couldn't see him.
Fear formed on her face.
But then she looked at her side and saw Maan was lying down beside her with his back turned towards her.
Geet breathed a soft sigh of relief.
Then she looked around herself.
She was on Maan's big bed but both were kept at distance. Maan was right on the other side of the left, and Geet was right on the other side of the right.
She smiled and wiped off the sweat on her brow, and then lay back down again. She was sleeping on Maan's bed. She sniffed into her pillow and it smelt of Maan.
She felt safe again.
And then suddenly she felt tempted to circle her arms around Maan's waist. He had his back towards her and he was snoring very very slightly and his breathing was slow and heavy. He was in deep sleep.
What harm would it do if she could just...
She huddled closer to Maan and hugged him tightly from behind, then hid her face in the nape of his neck.
She drifted off to sleep again.
She loved him.
A lot.
***
Maan woke up from a deep sleep.
There was soft breathing on his neck and then he looked down.
Geet's arms were around him.
He turned around and faced Geet's cute, little, innocent face and smiled. He looked at her lips, they were slightly parted. He felt a sudden urge to just kiss her right there.
And he did.
