Chapter 93: Sangeet – Part 6

Suddenly a hoard a women came to get Senna and Gauri and escorted them to the Blue room as well. They seated Senna in an ornately dressed up chair, right next to Rathan.

Gauri went to stand by Smitha aunty just as Shiv, Dhruv, and the rest of their 'posse' lined up next to Rathan and started humming… while one of them started to sing, "dum dum dum dum…" She had heard this somewhere before…

And then while most of the men caught on with the harmonizing, providing the music with their vocals, two of them started the actual song.

Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tho

Aayi Rut Mastaani Kab Aayegi Tu

Beeti Jaaye Zindagaani, Kab Aayegi Tu

And then she knew where she had heard it before… It was that group Penn Masala, the a cappella group that mixed different songs.

Just as she thought that, the song segued into…

But rather than continuing in the same vein like the Penn Masala did, the girls – led by the effervescent tiny twin Nirosha – jumped in now to catch on while the men continued to harmonize in the background,

Yeh Dil Ki Baat Apne Dil Mein Dabaake Rakhna…

And thus it continued until the whole crowd caught on and it was a mad frenzy of singing, dancing, and all around merry-making…

Somewhere in the middle of it, she saw Aarya pull Nirosha to the back of the crowd and once he made sure that he wasn't being watched – well, she herself being the exception – he pulled her out of the crowd and towards the back entrance leading to the hallway. Right when he took her hand to pull her out, she resisted; after scanning the once more, he suddenly picked her up in his arms and carried her off, just like that…

Gauri smiled to herself… She had seen Nirosha's Sheila Ki Jawani… well, now Nirosha will have to see her Boyfriend-ki-Jawani…

Just then, someone pulled her into his arms. She turned around to see her husband's face, just as he raised her arms to lock them around his neck as he sang along with the crowd,

She smiled as she sang back along with the rest of the women,

His gaze softened now, as he held her closer and sang softly,

She leaned up towards him and whispered along with the next verse,

Kuch Aur Ab Na Kehna

Kuch Aur Ab Na Karna

Yeh Dil Ki Baat Apne Dil Mein Dabaake Rakhna…

His eyes changed as she sang those words and she could feel him press her tighter to him. She knew he would kiss her in that moment, not caring that a hundred people were milling around him. She didn't want to resist, but before she could make that choice, the women pulled her away from him and his friends came to get him as well as the song reached its crescendo…

She looked back at him and found him give her one last look before he turned towards the rest of the men and sang along with the ending, rushing up afterwards to lift Rathan and Senna up in their arms.

At my sisters wedding, the grooms side sang that song, and brides side (me and my cousins) countered attacked with saat semundar par mein tere piche piche aagi, which was quite literal because my sister was living in the states while the groom was living across the seven seas...
