Kripa rolled on her bed, realizing that Angad wasn't by her side. She opened her eyes and realized he wasn't even in the city. She groaned as she placed her feet on the floor; grabbing her towel she dragged herself into the shower.
She turned the tap and cold water ran down her body, sending chills through her. As her knees went numb, she opened her eyes, now completely awake. Thoughts of Angad rushed her mind. For some reason she felt that Angad leaving her was a bad thing. Something was going to happen while he was gone, but everything had been perfect for the past weeks, then what could go wrong? Perhaps, that was the calm before the storm, she thought as she rinsed her body one last time, this time with warm water.
Turning the shower off, she reached for her towel and patted it on her face and down. Then reaching her bathrobe she wore it. Now stepping into her room she walked to the mirror and looked at herself; smiled. "I'm going to tell him as soon as he gets back," she told herself looking into the mirror. Then smiled as she walked to her closet and picked out a blue suit for herself. She slowly changed into it, desperately waiting for his call. She was fully dressed, looking beautiful, but the phone never rang. Now angry and sad she walked down stairs.
******
Kripa sat in Angad's cabin handling a few things for him, he had left for her to do. When she finished she slammed the file shut, looking at her phone again. It was three and he hadn't called. At this point if he did call, she had decided, she wasn't going to pick up.
As ironic as it was, the phone rang as soon as she had finished the thought. She looked at the screen, shocked to see Angad's name flashing. She put the cell back down, looked at it for a few minutes and then cut the call.
A few seconds later, the office phone rang. Kripa picked it up, "I hate you Angad!"
"Kripa?" He said. "How did you know?"
"I know you well Angad. And, I'm very angry with you right now."
"Why?"
"Why, why?" She gasped, angry. "You were going to call me about twelve hours ago Angad."
Angad grinned as he sat on his bed. "I know. I'm sorry."
"Sorry, seems to be your favorite word, and I apparently hate it!"
"Kripa…"
"Angad…"
"Did you take your medicines last night?"
"Yes," she answered rudely.
"Kripa, come on, don't be angry. Please."
She sighed, "Angad you owe me for this one. I was really worried."
"Ah, I'm sorry nah! Come on now do me a favor."
"What?"
"We have to turn in a file by tonight, can you do that for me?"
"Yes, where?"
"The info is with Prithvi. Take him with you in fact."
"Angad I…"
"I know," he stopped her. "He's changed Kripa. Give him a chance."
She sighed again. "Ok. When are you coming back?"
"Tomorrow afternoon." A short paused followed until Angad spoke again. "I miss you Kripa."
She leaned back into her chair and smiled, softly she whispered, "Me too." Another short paused until Kripa heard a girl call Angad's name in the receiver.
"Whose with you?" she quickly asked, stiffening.
Angad chuckled, "A friend." He laughed again, "Are you jealous, Kripa?"
She heard the voice again, "Angad! Come here love."
"Angad, get back here and then we'll see who is jealous of what. Bye." She slammed the phone down and frowned to herself when the door opened and walked in Prithvi.
Kripa lifted her eyes and looked at him. "Prithvi, I was just coming to you."
He stood behind the chairs, in front of Kripa. "Why?"
"Anagd just called, we have to submit some file, he wants me to go with you."
Prithvi's face shrunk, "Are you sure about that?"
She laughed now, "Yes, I'm sure. When should we leave?"
"How about before dinner?"
"Ok."
********
Prithvi and Kripa had deposited the file, had dinner together. Prithvi had asked her for a dance, and reluctantly she had agreed. Throughout the entire dance, she hadn't made eye contact with him once. Almost as if she was scared if she looked up at him something might go wrong, or she might start feeling for him. A part of her was scared of herself.
Now, as they drove back in complete silence Kripa's mind kept drifting back to Prithvi and the time they had spend together. Suddenly, she felt a rush of guilt over take her, but why? Because she had spend time with Prithvi, and she shouldn't have? Or was it because she thought that she was betraying Angad? Or was it that she still felt for Prithvi, she was sorry that the person he was right now was because of her? Which one was it?
It was true, Prithvi wasn't this type of a person when she had met him. He was more happy, more laughable, more lively, more calm. Today he looked just sad, dead, and stiff. It seemed as if he was breathing because he had to, he was living for absolutely no reason other then that, maybe even god didn't want him yet. But then again this was the way Kripa was thinking when she looked at him at the moment.
Maybe he's just tired, she concluded. She mentally sighed, when the car took a few jumps and then completely stopped.
Kripa looked at Prithvi worried, "What happened?"
He shrugged and stepped down, checking the tires. They both then realizes that two of the tires were flat.
******
Now almost three hours later they both sat in a small cottage, it was pouring a February rain outside. Kripa was sitting in front of a fire, while Prithvi kept trying to call someone. His phone was out of reach and the land line was not working. He slammed his hand on the table and sat back.
"I'm sorry Kripa, we are going to have to spend the night here."
Kripa wasn't sure about this, and forced a smile, "Its ok." He smiled back and sat down beside Kripa, his hands in front of the fire. Kripa pulled her 'Dupatta' closer to her, and slightly moved. She saw Prithvi's lips curve into a smile. "Why are you smiling?" she asked.
"Remember when we went camping and we were stuck like this?"
"Um… yes I do. Once Angad and I were also stuck like this. We had just got back from Goa."
The night flashed before her eyes and she was missing Angad more now.
Prithvi on the other hand, violently said his name under his breath, thankfully, or not, it wasn't clear enough for Kripa to hear.
He stood up and looked around to the bar, and poured himself a glass of Rum.
******
Around twelve the fire had burnet out, and Kripa was freezing. Prithvi now held a glass of rum in front of her, Kripa slowly took it and gulped it down, helping herself with another one.
After she had downed three glasses she was on the sofa, next to Prithvi. She smiled to herself as she thought about Angad, again and again. She wasn't going keep it to herself any more. She was going to tell him as soon as she got back how much she loved him.
Then she went back to the phone conversation from this morning and tears came in her eyes. When Prithvi noticed the tears he put his glass down and took her face in her hands. "Why are you crying about Kripa?"
She looked at him, "Prithvi I love Angad."
He took his hand back and looked away, "I know." He whispered.
"But why doesn't he loves me?" She asked playing with his hands now.
Prithvi took them away and scooted over a little. "Kripa you should go off to bed now."
"No!" She looked at him, "He doesn't love me Prithvi."
Prithvi sighed and hugged Kripa slowly. She gave into him and cried, when Angad and Nisha's picture came into her mind, then the voice this morning.
When Kripa left him, the lights were out. Holding his hand still Prithvi led her to the bedroom and made her lay down, caressing her hair he made her close her eyes.
When he tried to get up, Kripa had his hand. When she opened her eyes she saw Anagd before her. She pulled him down and whispered, "Do you love me?"
Prithvi looked at her confused. She kissed his hand. "I love you a lot Kripa."
She pulled him further down into an embrace and kissed his cheeks, "I love you too…" then in a whisper she said, "Angad." But Prithvi never heard her.
*****
Kripa woke up the next morning, her head throbbing. It was raining heavily outside, and the shadows of the trees didn't allow the little bit of the light to enter either. The curtains were shut tightly, looked as if it was done on purpose.
With her eyes closed she turned her head, when she opened them she was shocked to see what she saw.
********
Kripa entered the Khanna house, alone. Saamiya quickly ran to her and hugged her. "Kripa? Where have you been?"
"Nothing Di. I'll tell you later."
She smiled, "Angad is here."
Kripa looked up at Saamiya rushing her purse to her she ran upstairs. She ran up the stairs skipping stairs, almost tripping a few times. When she threw her door open she found, Angad finishing straightening his shirt out. He looked fresh, just got out of the shower. Wearing a green shirt with the letter 'A' in blue and jeans.
He looked at Kripa with dreamy eyes. She was panting, strands of her hair over her eyes, a few stuck to her lips. Angad took a step forward and then stopped, he noticed the look on her face, vexed and petrified. Tears ran from her eyes; she took a step towards him, stopped and then ran into his arms. Anagd hugged her back tightly, but her entire body was nervous, her embrace was more cold than warm, more uncomforting than comforting. Angad didn't know why, but he did know that she was crying, and it had to do more than just her being away from him for the time. He felt her fingers press into his back harder as she cried more and more, unstoppable.
Angad took a deep breath until he finally pulled her away and looked at her red eyes. She wasn't able to look up at him, and tears were still rolling down her tiny eyes. She looked flushed.
"Kripa." he whispered. His hands now cupping his face.
She lifted her face up and looked at him, still not with full determination. She tugged at his sleeve and placed her face on his arm and continued to cry. He just continued to pat her head as she cried. He had no idea what was wrong, but he knew what ever it was, it was big.
Short? I know. 😳 I'll post a longer part tomorrow, promise. I won't say much about this part.
Coming up: Kripa distants herself from Angad.
Hugs and Kisses,
Neha 😊
