It all had happened so fast she didn't even realize where she was brought.
It was a fitting room for the apparel section, which was right next to the shoe section.
Maan pulled Geet into one of the stalls and she gasped as he closed the door.
Part 11:
Geet was in Maan's arms with her back against the door of the stall.
She looked at the fire in his blue-green eyes. It was a different side of him, a side she had never seen before.
Geet: Maan just what do you think you are doing? What happened to you all of a sudden? Geet said trembling in his arms and a bit afraid to ignite his anger further.
Maan: What am I doing? He said glaring at her. What were you thinking coming out like this?
Geet looked at him confused and he took her arm and turned her around so her back hit his chest.
Geet felt Maan's shirt against her skin and then realized just what Maan was talking about. Her mouth opened wide as she realized what must have happened with the zipper of her dress.
She felt Maan tug at the zip of her dress, which had reached all the way to the small of her back.
Geet's heart started beating faster as Maan pulled her zipper up ever so slowly as she felt his breath so close to her neck.
As Maan was zipping up Geet's dress he tried his best not to look at her soft fair skin, but his eyes caught a glance of her red silky bra and his eyes lingered a bit too long on the hook. His hands were itching to touch her soft skin and the silky material. Maan was brought out of his reverie when the zip reached a stop and wouldn't budge.
Geet whispered shlyly: This is the same spot it got stuck at before.
Maan took the zipper in his hand and took out the fabric that was stuck between the zip lining preventing it from going up. As he was doing so his fingers slightly grazed Geet's back unknowingly sending a shiver down her back. He zipped the dress all the way up and the adjusted her hair. As his hands touched the nape of her neck, Geet felt waves coursing though her body. She felt something strange at his touch, something different.
Geet turned around towards Maan. She didn't know how to meet his gaze, she felt embarrassed.
Geet: Thanks she said looking at the floor.
Maan smiled. He tried to ease up the situation.
Maan: Well I guess I should have checked that zipper before buying the dress.
Geet laughed embarrassed.
Maan: But then again I would have lost this opportunity.
Geet looked up: Huh? She said surprised.
Maan winked and he picked up Geet's shawl which had fallen to the floor.
He wrapped the shawl around Geet and adjusted her hair behind it.
Maan: Geet, if there was a problem with the zip you should have just called me over then at the apartment at least we wouldn't have had to go through all this. I think we have been through this much that I could have done that for you.
Geet: I am sorry for all the trouble.
Maan: No need to be sorry Geet it's just that I don't like people looking at you like that guy was out there.
Geet blushed.
Maan moved in closer to Geet moving a strand of hair away from her face, he leaned in and kissed her on the cheek, making the area turned even a greater hue of red.
Maan: You know you are soo beautiful.
Before Geet could respond, there was a knock on the stall of the fitting room.
Geet quickly turned around as this was her chance to avoid the situation that was making her heart beat totally out of control now. She quickly opened the door to find the same guy that was the object of Maan's hatred in front of them.
Guy: Well hello there!! He smiled..Hope I didn't disturb anything..he said a bit annoyed..Wanted to let you know.. two people are not allowed in one stall he said matter of factly. I think we'll have to put a sign up, too many people have started to do this lately he said putting a hand on his chin and speaking to himself.
Geet gave him a weird look, while Maan could just as well have pushed him to the floor.
Guy: Anyway ma'am he said smiling at Geet, here is the size you wanted, you left it there before, he said taking in Geet's figure with his gaze in ways that made Maan burn in anger.
This was the limit for Maan, he thought in his head " Manhoos mara idhar bhi agaya, first he ruins my moment and now he has the nerve to bring the shoes over again".
Maan takes the box of shoes from him and throws them in his face giving a dirty look at the same time.
He grabs Geet's hands as they run out of the store.
Geet let's go of Man's hand outside the store.
Geet: Maan, but what about my shoes, she said looking down as she was still wearing only one shoe.
Maan: Geet I don't care, I'll carry you but we, I mean you are not going one step near that perverted guy.
Geet: Maan you are taking this too seriously.
Maan: No I am not Geet, and no use arguing with me, he said as he pulled her into another shoe store and held her hand tightly while he quickly picked out shoes for her that were her size and made her wear them.
Finally they headed over to the restaurant for their date.
They sat at a table which was eyeing the skating rink which was romantically set up with candle lights and roses.
As they waited for the food to arrive Geet eyed the skaters and remembered her time skating with Maan at Bryant Park. As she was watching she was reminded of her lost bracelet and she frowned and her eyes moistened.
Maan: Geet, Geet?
Geet: Huh, she said getting out of her trance.
Maan: Are you ok?
Geet: Yea I am fine, just remembered sweet and bitter moments at the same time. She sighed.
Maan: Geet actually I've been meaning to give you something.
Geet: What are you going to give me now? You already gave this dress, which caused soo much drama she smiled.
Maan: This, he said as he took out her golden bracelet from his pocket.
Geet's eyes lit up instantly. OMG OMG is that is that MY BRACELET!!!
Maan: Yes it is!!! He smiled!! Geet reached over and grabbed it quickly and caressed it close to her cheek like a toddler would her long lost teddy bear!!!
Geet: OMG I can't believe it!!! She almost reached out to hug him over the table but stopped mid way. Maan thanks soo much I lo'she stopped mid sentence realizing who she was talking to.
Geet sat back down and stared at the bracelet smiling. You know Maan this bracelet means a lot to me, it's really special.
Maan: I can tell by the look on your face. He smiled.
Geet thought and looked at Maan in confusion.
Geet: But Maan if you had it all along why didn't you give it to me before?
Maan: Maybe because I wanted a part of you to always be with me he whispered.
Geet: What?
Maan: I mean I guess I was just waiting for the right moment..
Geet: And how do you know this is the right moment?
Maan: I know it is, he smiled. You know Geet sometimes what we really want and are looking for is right next to us but we never realize it.
Geet was soo caught up in trying to put the hook of her bracelet on that she didn't understand his subtle message.
Maan: Need help?
Geet looked up and gave him a nod.
Maan brought his hand over and took her soft delicate hand into his as he put the bracelet on her.
Geet smiled: I think this bracelet just became even more special than it was she said with a glint in her eyes, staring at Maan's flawless face and brightened eyes in the candlelight.
Just then the waiter came over with their food. They start eating their dinner. As they are eating Mann gets lost in lala land staring at Geet and chokes on his food. His glass of water was finished and the waiter had gone to get more in the jug. But he was taking forever and Geet got really worried. Her glass was half full.
Geet: Maan, Maan here you go, drink it fast.
Maan drank the water from Geet's glass.
Geet: Are you better?
Maan: Your lipstick tastes good. He said winking!
Geet: What? My lipstick? You sure you are ok?
Maan pointed to the side of the glass that he was drinking from which had her lipstick mark on it. He licked his lips making Geet blush a crimson red. Maan chuckled and Geet stared at him laughing and blushed even more adoring his laughter.
Maan: Oh man, do I love it when you blush like that! He sighed.
Geet: Blush? Who's blushing..not me..Geet said flustered and fanning and tapping her face.
Maan: Would you like some water, Maan said winking and offering her the glass he had just drank from.
Geet: No I think I am fine..should we get going?
They paid their bill and headed outside walking around Rockefeller Center, they stopped by a wishing fountain in which many people had thrown pennies.
Geet: Ohhh wishing fountain, let's make a wish.
Maan: Geet you really believe all this.
Geet: It's worth a try isn't it?
They both took out a penny and threw it into the fountain closing their eyes and making a wish.
Geet: So what did you wish for?
Maan: I'll tell you when it comes true.
Geet: But what if I am not there when it comes true.
Maan: Oh we will see about that he smiled.
Little did they know, they both had wished for the same thing <3
They then headed over to see the big Christmas tree that was surrounded by hundreds of tourists.
Just as they were walking over they bumped into Trish, Sharon, Vicky and Jai. They were all sitting on a ledge near the tree taking pictures with gifts in their hands.
Geet walked up to them.
Geet: Tum log? Yahan? Kaisay?
Trish: Yeh toh humain poochna chaiyay, what are you two doing together?
Sharon: We were exchanging the secret santa gifts remember we decided this day.
Geet: Oh yea we came for the gift exchange too, duh, obviously, Geet said trying to cover up.
Vicky looked at Maan all suspicious.
Vicky: But where are your gifts?
Maan: Ahh we already gave them to each other, he smiled at Geet.
Trish: Oh ho, what did you give each other that you couldn't give in front of everyone?, eh eh Geet she said nudging her elbow.
Geet: Trish stop it!!
Trish: By the way Geet, hot dress, Trish winked knowingly.
They all sat by the ledge and opened their gifts.
Vicky gives Jai his gift and he opens it up. It's a book on how to patoafy girls in a nerdy way. ROFL!!
Jai: Err thanks Vicky!
Vicky: No problem bro.
Trish nudged Sharon: See how caring my boyfriend is, he is trying to spice up your love life by teaching your guy a tip or two, how sweet.
Sharon: Oh my I am soo excited, I can't wait to see what romantic things Jai will try on me!! Hai..maybe we will have a rain dance outside the library!! She went into her dreamland.
Trish: Errr okk, well Sharon come out of you dreamland and take this gift. Merry Christmas! She smiled.
Sharon opened her gift!! It was DVDs of some of Sharon's most favorite Hindi movies with deleted scenes and all.
Sharon: EEE!!! OMG I love you Trish..she hugged her! This is the best!! Now Jai and I can watch these together'uff perfect recipe for romance.
Jai just looked down embarrassed as his cheeks turned red.
Trish: Who has my gift?! Trish said eager!
Jai: Errr I do Trish!
Trish: Oh wow I wonder what it is! She said excitedly as she opened it up. She saw that it was makeup from the side.
Trish: Hawww you think I am ugly and need more makeup?!
Jai: No Trish..actually..err..i can explain..
Then she unwrapped the whole thing and saw that it was MAC and got superexcited!!
Trish: Oh wow I love it!! Thanks soo much Jai.
Lastly Sharon handed over her gift to Vicky.
It was a nice black sports jacket that Trish had suggested and Vicky loved it!!
They all enjoyed the rest of the night taking pictures, sharing jokes and just having a jolly good time, Maan and Geet shared the occasional eyelock in between which didn't go unnoticed by their friends. Trish especially was super happy about how their story was progressing.
It was New Year's Eve and the gang had all headed out to Times Square for the big celebration and the ball drop. The crowd was humongous and they were all squished close to each other as they waited for midnight to strike.
As the clock ticked away to midnight the couples got cozier and cozier. Everyone was holding hands and keeping each other warm. Jai and Sharon were holding hands and talking about something, Trish sure hoped it wasn't school. Trish was sitting in Vicky's lap on a fence. Geet was standing nearby looking around at the crowd and the romantic displays of affection all around. It was rather cold and she started to shiver despite all the hats and gloves she had on. Just then Maan who was at her side held her hand and pulled her closer. Geet looked into his eyes and smiled. He held her by the shoulder in a half kind of hug as they looked at the huge crowd and the ball that was about to drop.
Trish and Vicky were snuggled in a corner whispering sweet nothings to each other with kisses in between. Jai and Sharon were smiling and giggling as they hugged and waited for the countdown.
And then the ball began to fall as the countdown to the new year started 10..9'8..7'6'5'4'3'2..
And then the moment happened the moment that changed everything.
Maan turned his face towards Geet and moved in closer tilting his head ever so slightly. Happy New Year Geet he whispered close to her lips and then he nudged her closer to him by her waist.. Geet's eyes widened at first and then they started to close of their own accord'.She felt a soothing warmth on her lips in the cold night and it sent a shiver down her spine! His M shaped lips met her soft plump ones as they blocked out the whole world around them. Maan held her tightly by the waist and at first Geet didn't know how to respond, but then she felt herself kissing him back as she clutched his shoulder tightly. There were fireworks, there was confetti and in the midst of it all they were living their moment and it couldn't have felt more perfect. In the distance an old number was playing "Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this'some people search forever for that one special kiss, I can't believe it's happening to me'."
