Part 8:
Recap: Geet feeding Maan the soup when it spills on her coat, she takes off her coat revealing herself in a tanktop and Maan is shocked!
Geet had her back turned to Maan and was shivering. She thought in her head she just couldn't turn back and face him it would be soo soo embarrassing. She held up her wet coat in her hands to her chest trying to cover herself up as she turned.
Maan had gotten up from the bed now and he came closer to Geet.
Maan: Geet I am so sorry meri wajah say yeh sab hua.
Geet: No..she said it's not your fault, I was just you know feeling cold..so I shook the bowl..she said not being able to look into his eyes and admit the fact that it was his winking that had resulted in her flustered reaction.
Maan looked at Geet with a softened expression and looked down at the way she was holding the coat close to her.
Her hair was open and kind of all over the place now. She had been cooking for a while and kept putting her hair back as it came to her face. He realized she probably hadn't seen how she had little crumbs of food in her hair.
As Maan was moving his had closer to her hair, Geet looked around and saw the bathroom door and rushed over to clean herself up.
She entered the bathroom and washed her arm, which was all sticky now because of the soup. Then she washed the sleeve of the coat with water and a bit of soap so the soup wouldn't leave a stain.
When she looked up at the mirror she saw what a mess her hair was. She brushed off all the crumbs.
Geet: OMG I am in such a mess..and that too in front of him!! He must think I am some sort of idiot! First I wear a tank top outside in this weather and now I have food in my hair like a little girl!! She was just about to tie her hair up using a scrunchie that was on her wrist, when she saw Maan come up behind her in the mirror.
Geet turned around all flustered. Now she had the coat in her hand to her side and she went Maan's eyes roving her body from top to bottom. She was so embarrassed and blushed.
Then he looked right into her eyes and proceeded to hold her hand but instead he grabbed the scrunchie that was about to fall out of her hand anyway since her hands were shaking due to his closeness.
While he took the scrunchie in his right hand and brought his left hand to her cheek. He took the strand of hair that was touching her right cheek and gently tucked it behind her ear, touching her cheek with his thumb in the process, which made that area turn a deeper red.
Maan: Tum khule balon ke saath zyada khoobsurat lagthi ho he whispered into her ear.
Geet didn't know if she could blush any harder and she felt the bathrrom heating up and decided to step out. As she was walking away Maan grabbed her hand.
Maan: Ahh Geet, I think you'll need this, I mean kahin tumhay sardi na lag jaye. I already have a cold I wouldn't want you to catch it too, he said, handing over a black buttoned down shirt of his to her which he had taken out of his closet.
Geet: Umm, thanks, she smiled shyly. She took the shirt in her hand.. Thinking in her head that if he stayed this close to her and kept passing such comments she would feel pretty much hot and fine without heating in the room.
Maan: Then wear it he said..looking down at the shirt.
Geet smiled nervously and started to put one arm in one sleeve and as she was putting her left arm in it got stuck as the cuff of the sleeve was buttoned. She tried using her right hand to unbutton but as she was left handed it was proving to be a difficult task.
Maan saw and came on over and unbuttoned it for her and helped her bring her hand through.
Geet: Thanks and she smiled.
Maan: looked at her. She was looking like a little girl in the oversized shirt it was handing loose all around her. He wanted to laugh but instead smiled.
Geet noticed this and asked: Is something wrong?
Maan: putting his hand to his face..Err no..he came closer, I was just wondering can you button the shirt up yourself, he said touching one of the buttons with is finger, or would you need me to help you with that too? He winked.
Geet: Geet looked down at herself embarrassed she turned away from him and started buttoning up the shirt quickly. No thanks she said and rushed out of the bathroom.
Maan chuckled.
She went and put her coat on a heater, maybe eventually when the heat would come it would dry up she thought.
Geet: I think you should finished that soup now, I have a feeling you are better already with the antics you are upto. She glared at him, trying to start a conversation that would lighten up the mood and wouldn't lead up to uneasy situations like the one she was just in moments ago.
Maan: Yes madam, I'll right to it!! He smiled'
Just then there was a knock on the door.
Geet looked over at Maan worried, Maan told her to calm down. Geet looked at the time WHAT it was 7:00 PM!! How had she spent so many hours here without realizing she wondered? And why hadn't Trish or Sharon called to find out about her whereabouts?! But the question that was bugging her most was who was at the door and where would she hide if need be?
Maan: Who is it?
Girl outside: Maan it's me, Tina.
Geet's eyes rounded: Tina!! A girl?!! Coming into Maan's apartment at this hour?!
Maan whispered to Geet: Geet!
Geet was lost in her world wondering who this Tina could be!
Maan: Geeet..he said again a bit louder.
Geet: Huh?! Geet said coming out of her trance. You are going to have to hide quick, Tina is here!! Quick hide!!!!
Geet didn't know where to hide. No way was she going to enter that bathroom again so she decided to hide under the bed, she crawled under.
Geet thought in her head: Great!! Now he has a girlfriend and wants me to be hidden from view!! Itni hi fikar thi apnay bf ki toh pehle kahan thi manhoos mari she said cursing her under her breath before even seeing her.
Maan opens the door and in enters a blonde white girl with glasses in her late 20s.
Geet peeks out from under the bed and sees her.
Geet: Hmmm, yeh Mr.Mysterious to Mr.Gori-lover nikla!!! Tareefein meri aankon aur balon ki aur pyaar is gori ke saath!!! she muttered'
Tina: Hi Maan, you had complained about the heat I believe.
Maan: sneezes, yea I am getting no heat and I have a cold too now.
Geet put her finger in her mouth.
Geet: Hain? Why is his girlfriend concerned about the heat? Oh maybe she doesn't want him to get sick any further.
Tina started looking around the room.
Tina: Ok everything looks pretty fine. She moved on closer to the window and moved the curtains.
Then Maan saw how hard it was snowing outside.
Maan: WOW, it's snowing so hard!! I didn't even notice!
Tina: Really?! Well, it is like a blizzard out there and the wind chill factor is very low. We are advising all the students to not leave their apartments tonight! We don't want to be held responsible for anything that happens on University premises. It is best for the student's health anyway.
She said as she looked at the weather tape around his window.
Tina: I think we might need to change this it is causing the heat to leak out, anyway I am going to get this fixed your heater is freezing cold.
As she was feeling the heater she noticed Geet's red coat that she had placed there.
Tina: A red coat? This can't be yours.
Maan: Oh it's a friend's that came over in the afternoon. She left it by mistake.
Tina: Oh ok, well it's good she went earlier or else now it is impossible to walk even a block.
Maan was grimaced. How was Geet going to get back now? He thought.
Tina: Ok then, I'll get this problem fixed ASAP, you don't worry! And get well soon!! She smiled and left the room closing the door behind her.
Geet was embarrassed under the bed.
The girl she thought to be his girlfriend was actually the RA (Residence Assistant) who Maan had called previously about the heat! She slapped her head as realization stuck her.
She tried to get out from under the bed and she hit her head on the frame.
Geet: Ouch she screamed!!
Maan came over and looked for where the sound came from. He hadn't seen where she had hid.
Maan: Where are you Geet? Are you okay?
Geet: Umm I am here she said peeking from under the bed, on her knees and trying to get out..just then they both heard a tear'.
Geet: Ooopsss!! She winced.
She finally got out from under the bed and looked at her shoulder. She had ripped his shirt from the left shoulder as it had gotten stuck on one of the springs in the bed.
Geet clasped her hands over her mouth as she looked to her shoulder.
She was now satnding in front of Maan who was looking at her funny.
Geet: OMG OMG, I am soo sorry!! I really didn't mean to'.oh I just ruin everything don't I..she felt like crying.
Maan: Geet don't worry, it's ok..waisay bhi yeh old shirt thi..now I am not gonna go around giving you my brand new shirts when I know your middle name is disaster.
Geet: Hawww?!! What!! And you you gori-lover!! She shout out!!
Maan: Gori-lover?! What?!
Geet realizing what she said.
Maan: Wait'don't tell me..he laughed..you thought..you thought Tina was my girlfriend? He smirked.
Geet got red, embarrassed: No I didn't mean that..ahh obviously I knew she was an RA duh?!
Maan went over to Geet.
Maan: Geet you really find me to be that kind of person? He looked right into her hazel eyes
Geet got lost in his blue-green eyes yet again.
Geet: Well sometimes when you are such a mystery people will doubt you no?
Maan: Fair enough..well Geet I promise that I will give you the chance to ask whatever you want about me..when the right time comes. For now I want to tell you something important. Did you hear what Tina said? Or were you too busy paying attention to the fact that I am a gori-lover? He laughed.
Geet: Yea she said something about snow right?
Maan: Yea and much more than that'the weather outside is crazy and it is not safe to go out and plus I don't think security will let anyone out either'sooo..i think you might have to stay the night.
Geet: Wait..stay here at night?!! WHAT?!!! No way OMG there has gotta be a way out..wait just wait I'll call Trish.
She dialed Trish's number.
Trish: Kya hua Geet? Tu kahan hai? She said acting like she didn't know anything.
Geet: Trish main yahan Maan ke apartment mein phaas gayi hoon, and they are saying that they wont allow people to leave tonight. Tu kuch soch na!! I want to get home I can't stay here.
Trish: Yaar hot ladkay ke saath aisay mausam mein raat bitanay ka mauka just WOW, aur tu yahan ana chathi hai!!
Geet: Trish I am very serious!! Please yaar help..tu janti nahi hai kya kya ho chukka hai yahan.
Trish: Toh jo ho chukka hai usay aagay barha jaana' Chup karkay wahin rukh!! Anyway humaray yahn bhi same problem can't leave..aur ab main tere liye sneak karke nahi anay wali..what if I break a bone..mere sweetu Vicky ka kya hoga?
Geet: Uff you are impossible, forget it!!
Maan looked at Geet.
Maan: Everything ok?
Geet: ehe yeah she said giving a fake smile.
Maan: Sooo I guess you realized you will have to stay?
Geet: I guess sooo'I think I am feeling sick..can I just go and sleep'she said trying to avoid anymore awkward situations with him'oh shoot she realized she hadn't given him the medicine.
Geet: Actually let me just get you the medicine and then you can rest too.
She went out of the kitchen and took out a ibuprofen tablet from the medicine cabinet and brought a glass of water to him in the room.
Maan meanwhile was finishing the rest of the soup.
Maan: You know this is really awesome!! It reminded me of my mom's cooking! I think you should come here more often and cook for me'he smiled.
Geet: Pehli baar akay yahan phass gagyi baar baar aaongi toh pata nahi kya hoga..she said in a whisper
Maan: Did you say something?
Geet: Ahh, nothing much really she said moving up to the bed where he was lying down. Here you go..
She handed him the medicine and held the water as you put it in his mouth.
As he was taking the water from her hand, his finger touched her hand and she felt a tingling sensation.
Maan smiled as she quickly moved her hand away.
Geet: Ok I think I'll go and sleep now..in the living room'
Maan: Really girls sleep this early? It's only 8:00 PM, I heard girls go on and on talking to their friends late at night.
Geet: Yea but my friends are not here..and they are refusing to help me! She said sad at how Trish had refused to help.
Maan: But aren't we friends?
Geet looked into his eyes and his genuine million dollar smile that was making her heart beat faster.
Geet: More than friends she felt like saying..and then was shocked at the thoughts her mind was conjuring.
Geet: Of course. She simply said, or I wouldn't be here.
Maan: Great then tonight we will talk, I think it's too soon to sleep. What do you say? I mean I am sure you are not that sleepy.
Geet: Ok she thought, anyway how hard could just sitting there and talking with him be.
Maan: Great, I have an idea it's pretty cold in this room still because of the windows I think we should go and sit in the kitchen.
They went to the kitchen and sat at the dining table.
Maan turned on the stove to keep some warmth coming into the room, then he took out a candle from the drawer and lit it up in front of Geet's face.
Geet looked into his eyes as their blue-green color was enhanced by the bright-yellow candlelight.
Maan was looking at Geet.
Maan: You know you look even more beautiful in this candlelight'he said looking at her with intensity in her eyes.
Geet: ohh thanks Geet said turning away her gaze from him.
Maan smiled.
Geet looked at Maan's shirt which was ripped from the shoulder, she started to cover up the ripped cloth that was showing her bare shoulder.
Maan noticed how she was feeling uncomfortable.
He got up and went to his room and borught out a sheet.
Maan: Here, I thought maybe you were feeling cold.
Geet smiled..He is so sweet she thought, she knew the real reason he was giving it to her.
She wrapped it around herself covering her shoulders down.
Maan: So tell me about yourself like family and stuff.
Geet: Well there is me, my sister, Mansi, she is married and lives in England. And then there are my parents in India. How about u?
Maan: Just me, my dadi ma and my younger brother Dev. He stays in Canada.
The two talked about their studies, what schools they went to and general gossip about friends'they didn't realize how time flew by and pretty soon Geet was asleep with her head on the table.
Maan picked her up and took her in his room. He put her on the bed and covered her with his blanket. He then went to sleep on the sofa in the living room.
Geet got up in the morning hugging her blanket close. But for some reason it had a different smell. It smelt like cologne and it felt softer like she was covered with someone's strong arms.
Geet: Wait a second, wait a second she thought rubbing her eyes, this wasn't her room!! Then she recalled the events of last night..but she last remembered herself at the table with Maan!! How had she gotten here? Maan mujhe laya..she said in a whisper'par why his room??
