A CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!! *Maan exclaimed as he was guided towards a cake on the table with candles placed in a M shape*
Everyone: Happy Birthday Maan!!!!!!
Maan looked at each and everyone present there, and couldn't help but smile at their efforts to make his birthday the next big thing........
Maan: You really shouldn't have......I'm not 1 – it's 21...don't you think I've outgrown this now??
Dev: Come on Maan, we don't want to hear your bhaashan.......close your eyes, make a wish and blow the candles out, then cut the cake and if you really think you've outgrown it, you can leave it to us– we'll enjoy it for you *Dev said as he handed Maan the knife*
Maan: What?? What's this close your eyes and wish drama....no I'm just going to blow them out and cut it...you guys can enjoy it later on then....After, I've taken my first slice.....I just I've outgrown the whole shabam of cakes and all....not the eating part....*as he bent down to blow the candles*
Tara: ahhhhhh Maan ruko........uffo.....didn't you hear what Dev said...close your eyes, make a wish and then blow them.......*maan looked at her with a –you-cannot-be-serious-type of look* Chalo chalo.....I don't want to hear anything.....pleaseeeee... for me.....*as she smiled for her kid devar*
Maan smiled and nodded his head agreeing.
Dev: ohhohoho kya baat hai......your bhai is standing here, requesting you the same and you choose not to listen, and yet your bhabhi says it once and you do so without questioning........bohut aache bachooo
Tara: Maan.....I think I smell something burning...and it's definitely not the candles
Everyone began laughing........except Dev who was clearly not amused.........
Dev: hmmmm haslo ....jitna hasna hai haslo.....but let me tell you one thing Tara...after our wedding...it's not going to be me who you make fun of...it's going to be your hubby dear....
Tara was gobsmacked.....this was the first time in the 2 years of engagement that Dev had even mentioned something about the wedding...was she dreaming???
Tara: Well....that's later ......like after we get married but not until then............whenever that is....at the way things are now it seems not until another couple of decades.....*murmuring the last bit hoping he wouldn't hear – except he did*
Dev: Well...in that case.....we shall have to do something about this....*winking at Tara* ahem...come on Maan...we don't have all day....look the candle wax is melting onto the cake........
Maan did as he was told and closed his eyes to make this wish of his......except he wasn't quite sure what his wish was.......but as soon as he closed them....the sooner he opened them....shocked at what he had seen, blinking a few times to try and make sense of it.....but the image kept coming in front of his eyes as soon as he closed his eyes......
"A pair of eyes????!!!"
"Not just a pair of eyes Jenny..." Maan persisted as he recalled the entire event from this morning to his new found friend Jenny, who he had met at Freshers and happened to be doing the same course as him. Maan was relieved to meet Jenny....she was on the same level as Maan in terms of the content of the course as Jenny has taken a gap year to go on holiday abroad and started this year, having forgotten the C of chemistry. Jenny and Maan had gotten on well from the first go and since both were on the same course – they were sure to be in the same lectures so were able to help each other out.
Jenny: Yes yes I know.....it was magical, mesmerizing, the most awesome looking eyes ever.... I've heard it all.......
Maan: Jen......
Jenny: Maan.....it's a fantasy........you just saw a pair of eyes.....- you sure it wasn't just a hidden desire of yours or something??? *she said as a mischievous smile crept over her face*
Maan: my what??? Jen...just leave it....let's just drop the topic shall we....you won't understand.....
Jenny: My pleasure.................. *and she turned to talk to her other friends*
Maan stood there, thinking.......,.he had seen those pair of eyes....the eyes had a sparkle in them....he had never seen such eyes before.....well come to think of it he had never had such a vision before.......but now...every time he closed his eyes even for a split second, all he could see was those eyes.......they were a light brown in colour.......he didn't get much of a view of the face but he knew there was something magical about those eyes....something was inviting about them........he hadn't seen those eyes before......but somehow he seemed to have drowned in them.......
He stood there dazed...thinking about those eyes and who they may belong to and why he was constantly only seeing them in his head....when he heard a jingling sound in the distance..........he hadn't heard that kind of jingle in a long time...as the sound seemed to come closer...Maan recognised it to be of an anklet – the one with small bells attached.........the sound was causing havoc in Maan's head........he desperately looked around to see who the owner of the anklet was........he saw a group of people entering through the main door........but couldn't quite see who the anklet belonged to.........the jingling seemed to be calling out to him.....he closed his eyes in frustration...only to open them sooner than he closed them...the eyes were still present there – only now they seemed to be much brighter......and more vivid....as if......maybe..... were near him......
