08:00- Khurana Constructions
"Adi, Sasha! In my office. NOW!" Maan barked into the intercom. Dadi has already wasted enough of my time this morning, he thought pacing his cabin with a blue file in hand, and now those two are taking their sweet ass time to get here.
A chill ran down every spine in the office. The employees turned to stare at Adi and Sasha as they navigated their way through the desks to Maan's cabin. Without meeting each other's eyes Adi and Sasha stepped through the door, closing it behind them.
"What is this Sasha?" Maan questioned with a snarl.
Sasha looked up at the file he was holding. Oh no, she thought, that's the Chopra file! The colour drained from Sasha's face as Maan glared at her.
"SASHA!" screamed Maan, shaking Sasha out of her reverie and making Adi jump. "I asked you a question!"
"Umm sssir," stammered Sasha, her face turning a deep shade of magenta, "it...it's the Chopra file."
"Exactly!" exclaimed Maan, as he threw the file onto the desk. "Would you like to remind me when our next meeting with Mr Chopra and his associates is?"
Sasha looked down at her hands not knowing whether this was a rhetorical question, but decided to take her chances.
"It's tomorrow morning, sir." Sasha replied quietly.
"Then WHY are the blue prints not ready yet?" Maan fumed.
"Sorry sir, I was just working on them..." Sasha started but Maan cut her off before she could finish.
"REALLY! You were working on them...while they were lying here in my cabin?"
Realising she had been caught out, she looked straight into Maan's eyes and inhaled deeply. This is it, she thought, this is the end of my time here at Khurana Constructions. Even though her family's acquaintance with the Khurana's went way back, she knew there was a limit to everything and Maan wouldn't think twice before firing her.
"Now stop standing there staring at me, take the file and get to work. I want the finished product on my desk by four o'clock. Understood?!"
"Ye..yess sir," stumbled Sasha. Picking up the file she darted out the room. Once outside, she leaned against wall and tried to calm down.
"Saasha... I mean ma'am," enquired Tasha, walking up towards Sasha, "You look like you've seen a ghost."
Hearing Tasha's voice, Sasha straightened up gave her threatening look and walked away with the file. Tasha smirked as she watched Shasha scurry towards her desk.
Back in Maan's Cabin
Adi tentatively look up at Maan waiting for his round of shrapnel, whilst Maan paced the room behind his desk flipping through the second blue file. Adi saw it was the accounts file for the Chopra project.
"Take a seat Adi," Maan said, seating himself behind his desk. Uncertainly Adi sat down at the edge of one of the chairs. "The accounts file seems to be fine but I want you to look through the calculations once more, just to be on the safe side."
"Yes sir," replied Adi, taking the file from Maan's stretched out hand and stood up to leave.
"Have I asked you to leave yet?" questioned Maan with annoyance.
"Nnn...no sir."
"So sit back down and let me finish." Adi walked back to the office chair and perched himself upon it, waiting for Maan to continue. "I need you to look after the office today and make sure Sasha finishes the blue prints by four o'clock. I have a few meeting to attend to throughout the day and the Singhania one is at the site, so won't be in the office from three to five. If anything comes up call me and let me know."
"Yes, sir."
"You may leave now, and remember keep them all working I hate slackers!"
"Yes, sir," said Adi heading towards the door.
14:30 - Maan's Cabin
Maan jerked up as he heard his cell ring. I hope it isn't Dadi reminding me to eat again, thought Maan. Looking at the caller ID his face lit up.
"Sakhi, how are you?" Maan asked with a smile on his face.
"Maan veerji!!" Sakhi screamed into her cell, causing Maan to hold out his at arm's length. "Maan veerji... are you there?" Regaining his hearing Maan moved the cell back to his ear.
"SAKHI! STOP SCREAMING INTO THE PHONE!" shouted Maan.
"Maan veerji, you're the one who's screaming!" came back the reply. Maan sighed and smiled, well she was right, he thought.
"Ok ok, when are you two coming back home? The summer vacation is almost over; don't you have to get back to university in a couple of days?"
"That's why I called, Vicky and I will be back by tonight. Please come pick us up from the airport at 8, we really missed your beautiful face," teased Sakhi.
"Sakhi!" threatened Maan, causing Sakhi to burst out laughing hysterically.
"Fine, no more teasing," said Sakhi giggling, "but please veerji come to the airport, I really did miss you a lot," she whispered glumly.
Maan's heart skipped a beat; she really did know how to press all the right buttons he thought.
"Ofcourse I'll be there sweety," he replied softly.
"Ok then veerji," Sakhi replied, her voice returning back to its teasing self, "I'll let Vicky know how much you missed him, even though you haven't mentioned anything about even noticing our absence from home."
"Sakhi!" exclaimed Maan.
"I'm joking veerji, I know you missed us loads but don't have the guts to say it," she continued in between her giggles, "But I have to go now, we're about to board the plane. See you at eight." With that she hung up.
I don't have the guts, Me...Maan Singh Khurana doesn't have the guts, I'll show her at 8. Thought Maan with a slight smirk forming on his face.
