Chapter 5: Settling In

"No uncle, we really should get going. Plus, we need to check into the hostel by ten and with Delhi's traffic...," Aman stuttered.

"Ok beta, i understand. But don't forget to come visit again," her uncle replied, patting her on the head.

"Yes, do come visit. After our son moved to London, it's just us two here. Come visit and i'll whip up all sorts of dishes for you," Aman's aunt chipped in.

"Of course aunty, we will definitely come visit all the time," Geet said, smiling.

"Yeah, i really want to learn how you made that butter chicken, it was amazing!" Jen exclaimed.

"Oh, thank god!" Geet sighed, dropping her suitcase and falling on to the single bed in the left corner of the room.

"Oi! Get up!" Jen exclaimed, causing Geet to jump up off the bed to inspect what was wrong with the bed. Not having found anything out of the ordinary she asked, "What?"

Jen walked over with her own suitcase, plonked it on the bed and said, "You can't have the single bed."

"What? Why not?"

"Well, I don't really care who has the single bed. I call dibs on the bottom bunk," Aman said, walking towards the bunk bed across the room.

"Why can't i have the single bed?" Geet questioned Jen again, ignoring Aman.

"Remember our little settlement," Jen replied, sitting on the bed.

"What settlement?" Geet questioned, feigning ignorance.

"Oh come on, as if you don't remember. We decided the greatest trouble-maker would have to sleep on the top bunk. That way it'll be hard for you to get down and actually cause some trouble!"

"But...!" Geet tried.

"And since you've already caused enough racket at the airport," Jen continued, "you're going to be sleeping on top."

"Who's sleeping on top of whom?" Aman piped in.

"What? Aman go to sleep yaar, you're out of it and come on Jen, that was not my fault!"

"Yeah the bags left themselves there," Aman said, ignoring Geet's remark.

"You guys are so mean, you know that?" Geet huffed, picking up her bags and walking towards the bunk bed.

"Yeah yeah," Jen and Aman replied in synchrony.

A week later

"Thank God, we came a week early. Atleast we where everything is now," Aman said carrying two bags of fruit up the stairs.

"Do we really need all that fruit?" Geet asked unlocking the door to their 'apartment-style' home.

"What'd you guys buy?" Jen asked excitedly, running to the door as the two walked in.

"Nothing," Geet replied flatly, "Just Aman's stock load of fruit."

"Are you serious? You guys went shopping and all you brought was fruit?!"

"Hey! Don't diss my fruit!" Aman exclaimed, biting into an apple.

"So, what time do classes start tomorrow?" Geet asked, changing the subject.

"Nine," both Aman and Jen replied.

"Meaning I have to get up early tomorrow," Geet said dejectedly, "Aarrhhh!"

"Geet, Jen!! Get up already! We're going to be late on the first day!" Aman shouted, walking out the bathroom.

"Turning in bed, both Geet and Jen noticed the open bathroom door. Aiming to get in before the other; both quickly sat up, chucked aside their blankets, and jumped out of bed. Jen ran towards her toiletries whilst Geet climbed down the bunk ladder. Sprinting towards the bathroom, Jen stepped in and closed the door before Geet could even start walking towards it.

"Argh! Stupid bunk!" Geet cried, staring at the now closed door. Suddenly the door opened slightly and Jen peeked out. Staring at Get she stuck out her tongue, "Maybe tomorrow sweetie." With a slight laugh she quickly closed the door as Geet took a step towards it.

"Maybe if one of you got up early we wouldn't have this problem," Aman said, having observed the two in action many a times.

"I know right," Geet replied, sitting on Aman's bed, "I've told her to get up earlier so many times."

"Tera ki banu Geet?" Aman sighed. [What will become of you Geet?]
