Part 44: Double Surprise

Once in their room, Angad and Kripa sat on the bed, side to side, each lost in their own thoughts.

Kripa was thinking about fast forwarding the plan. Skipping through all this and just going straight to exposing her. She didn't know how Angad would feel if he found out about it later on. If Naina has lied to him and betrayed him, that's what Kripa was doing right now too, wasn't she? She was lying to him. Taking advantage of the faith he had in her. What if he couldn't bring himself to forgive her after Naina was exposed? What if he left her life? Would she be able to live without him any longer? Would she be able to raise her kids properly? Would her kids never get to know their father, and just how wonderful and self-less he was?

"Kripa?" Angad nudged her for the nth time. Kripa jerked out of her thoughts and turned to him with a slight frown on her face. Angad gently rubbed his thumb between her eyebrows as if trying to wipe the frown away, which actually worked.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked.

Kripa looked at her hands resting in her lap, not being able to lie while looking at him.

"Nothing...I was just...thinking about mom."

"Kripa...don't worry about her. She'll be fine. Maybe she's stressed. She never really talks to anyone about her problems. And I don't want you stressed...especially when you're so far into your pregnancy."

Now she looked into his eyes. Big mistake. The big wave of guilt in her heart overwhelmed her.

"Why do you care about me so much Angad? I'm not worth it."

Angad was taken by surprise. That was new. Usually she was angry at him. Was Naina getting to her? He turned towards her and held her face in both of his hands.

"Of course you're worth it Kripa. You mean my life to me. I don't think I'll survive this time if I have to stay away from you. I really love you Kripa."

Kripa searched the depths of his eyes for any sign of hatred towards her. Found none. Great. Now she felt even guiltier. Even though she was nice to him now, she had strict orders from everyone to not convey her feelings to him. And here he was, making her want to scream them out.

When she didn't look away, Angad found himself moving closer to her. He wanted to pull back because he was afraid that it might upset her if he kissed her but he couldn't find the right string in his body to pull to pull himself away from her. Kripa's eyes slid down from his eyes to his lips when he was inches away. Her hand automatically reached for his shoulder. She closed her eyes when he was centimetres apart and she could feel his breath on her lips.

Then the phone rang. They immediately pulled apart from each other while Kripa tugged a strand of hair behind her ear. Kripa picked up her cell phone and looked at the screen. Her eyes flicked to Angad before she picked up the call. It was Nishant. She held the phone to her ear and listened patiently. Soon, there was surprise and shock on her face while her eyes filled tears. Alarmed, Angad held his hand out for the phone. Kripa robotically handed him the phone and got up. By the time Angad was done listening, Kripa was rushing out of the mansion. Angad ran after her, asking her to slow down. He got ahead of her, unlocked the door to his car and helped her in. He ran around to the other side of the car and got in behind the wheel.

He wished desperately that he could read what she was thinking or feeling at the moment. Were those tears of joy or tears of grief? Should they be tears of grief? He decided to let her have the moment and didn't say anything to her. As soon as he got to Toronto General Hospital, he swiftly parked and ran to her side of the door to help her out while making sure that she didn't move too fast. Somewhere during their walk to the reception area, Kripa's trembling hand clutched Angad's. He held her right hand with his right hand while his left hand went around her shoulders supportively. Once they were given the directions, they didn't wait a single second before rushing to the elevators and then to the room. Kripa froze outside the room. Angad turned her towards him, wiped her tears, nodded once, and smiled at her. Kripa took a deep breath to steady herself before knocking on the door. The door opened and a red-eyed Nishant greeted Kripa. Kripa moved around him in an exaggerated slowness.

As her eyes zeroed in on her elder sister, Kripa's breaths started getting shaky. Kanan saw her in the doorway and smiled as wide as she could. Kripa rushed to her sister's side, sat on the bed next to her and embraced her tightly. The sounds of the sisters' laughs soon turned into sobs.

Angad gave Nishant a brotherly hug while Nishant beamed a teary smile. He'd gotten his life back. His wife was back. Out of a coma he'd thought she would never recover from.

Kanan had been in the coma as long as Kripa's parents were gone. She was headed to the airport to go home to Kripa when she'd met with a horrible accident. She hadn't been focused on her driving. All she could think about was that her parents were now gone forever. What she didn't know, what she didn't get a chance to know, was that Kripa's fianc had deserted her as well.

Angad was scared of meeting Kanan. It had taken a long time for Kripa to start talking to him normally. Could he handle her sister's hate towards him? He didn't know. Would Kanan try to take Kripa away from him now?

After they had no more tears to drop, Kanan and Kripa finally pulled away from each other and held hands.

Kripa: I have been so alone and lost without you Di! After mamma and papa left, I wasn't as lonely because I knew you were there...then...just like that....you weren't there anymore. I was so scared di. I didn't know what to do!

Kanan: shh Kripa...I know I left you when you needed me the most. But trust me, baby, I had no control over it. I'm sorry sweetie. And thank you.

Kripa: thank you? For what?

Kanan: Nishant told me how you helped him out with Palak and how she calls you mom now...

Kripa: oh come on di...had something like this happen to me...would yo-

"Kripa!" Angad and Kanan said in unison. Now Kanan looked in the doorway and saw him standing there with Nishant. He was different. He looked more buff now, for one. His hair was different? When she searched his face, her eyes fell on his and that's when she saw it. His eyes reflected grief now instead of happiness as they had a few years ago. Kanan noticed how this was common between Kripa and him.

Kanan: Angad right?

Angad's eyes widened. If she knew who he was, she knew what he'd done to Kripa. Kanan looked at Kripa and now she noticed the baby bump. Kanan's hand flew to Kripa's stomach.

Kanan: Oh my gosh! I don't believe this! How many months?

Kripa: seven.

Angad: actually...starting 8^h tomorrow.

Kanan's eyes flew back to him. She nodded, motioning him to come closer. Angad gave a cautious smile and walked towards the bed and stood next to Kripa.

Kanan: so I was right the first time around. You are Angad. Kripa's husband.

Angad: I'm surprised you know...I didn't know what you looked like until now.

Kanan: Kripa had sent me your pictures. Your prom pictures, cruise pictures, engagement pictures. I'm sorry I couldn't be present during your engagement or your wedding. I really wanted to be there. I've never seen her so happy. In her words, she'd said 'I've found my happily ever after with my prince charming Di.' Thanks Angad. Thank you for standing by her for these three years. Thanks for being there for her after our parents...

Angad: I didn't.

Kanan: what?

Angad: I didn't st-

Kripa held his hand and pressed lightly, suggesting to not say anything on the matter. Kanan didn't miss the exchange. She also noticed their body language towards each other...Kripa had stiffened as soon as Angad had stood next to her. He was surprised when she held his hand. There was a lack of eye contact. Kripa mostly looked at her hands or Kanan the entire time Angad was there. It wasn't supposed to be like this between a 3 year couple unless something was wrong between them.

Kanan: how many years since your wedding Kripa? Help me out here...I just came out of this thing...there is no sense of time...

For a second, Kripa caught the deer-in-headlights look and Kanan knew she'd hit something.

Nishant: It's only been seven months, my love.

Kanan looked at him, surprised. Then she looked back at Angad who had his eyes on Kripa as if evaluating her response while Kripa was looking at her hands again.

Kanan: seven months since the wedding...but...she's....8 months pregnant...

Kripa stiffened again and Angad's eyes moved away from her. Now they were both looking at the floor. Yeap. Definitely hiding something.

Kanan: Nishant...can you take Palak and put her on the couch, please? And gentlemen, would you please step out for a bit? I'd like to have a few words with my sister.

Awkward silence took over as Nishant walked to the bed, picked up the sleeping Palak, put her on the couch and went to Kanan. He kissed her forehead once, and looked over to Angad, waiting for him to leave. Angad looked back at Nishant and the two gentlemen turned to leave. Angad felt a tug on his hand a realized that Kripa was still holding on. She looked at him, her eyes screaming for help. He squeezed her hand for a couple of seconds and left reluctantly. The two men watched from the viewing screen in the door.

Kanan: what are you hiding from me, Kripa?

Kripa: Di...you just came out of coma...relax. I'll tell you everything at the right time.

Kanan: I see that there is some tension between you and Angad. You two behave...sort of....weird with each other. It's very different from what you wrote to me. And what in the world is up with the 8 month pregnancy and seven months since the wedding thing?

Kripa took a deep breath roughly, and sighed.

Kanan: he's looking at you from outside. He looks...worried.

Kripa nodded once before answering, "He's afraid of losing me."

"And why does he need to be afraid of that happening?" Kanan asked.

"Okay di...I'll make this as simple as possible for you. Angad and I didn't get married three years ago. He sent me a letter on our wedding day and told me that he doesn't want to marry me and that he's leaving."

Kanan gasped and couldn't help her eyes from flicking towards the rectangular window in her door from where he was watching along with Nishant.

Kripa: it's not what you think. Don't judge him just yet. After dad saw the letter, he got the heart attack...I was devastated and went to Angad's house to get some answers. I wanted to know why he'd done that to me. There, I found out that he had left the country....for me. For my safety. My life would have been in jeopardy if he'd married me. Shocked, numb, and lost, I made my way back home and find out that mom had committed suicide.

Kripa choked on her voice and her eyes filled tears along with Kanan. Kanan grasped Kripa's hand and the two sisters let a few tears drop in the memory of their parents. Once her sobs came to a halt, Kripa continued.

"After that I kept finding out a whole lot of things related to the situation and I realized that it went deeper than what it looked like. It was a twisted maze and I'd entered it without knowing. With the help of two other people, I was able to relocate Angad and that is when we made the entire plan. According to which I agreed to go to Simone's engagement."

"Simone got engaged?" Kanan asked.

"Yes...to Angad."

"WHAT?!!?" Kanan was flabbergasted. Kripa was right. This story was twisted.

"Yeah. Then according to the plan, I made Angad jealous. I let him know how much pain he'd put me through. My goal at this point was to make him break his engagement with Simone. The last major step in the plan was me seducing him. It was just supposed to be enough to make him break his engagement but I......I forgot my own plan and I just went with the flow. I conceived that night."

Kripa's hand ran over her stomach affectionately. She looked at Kanan who stared back with a dropped jaw and wide eyes.

Kripa: the other figured out that I was pregnant and they "forced" us to get married. The plan is still going on. It's not over yet.

After a few minutes, Kanan recovered from the shock of all this and was truly glad that Kripa didn't tell her the entire version of the story. She wasn't sure if she could handle so much information all at once.

Kanan: I obviously don't understand everything...but Kripa...I hope you know what you're doing.

Kripa: I'm not sure anymore di.

Kanan: what do you mean?

"I thought I knew what I was doing but...he loves me so much. I feel like I'm deceiving him...taking advantage of his love, of his trust. I'm constantly lying to him, being disrespectful and rude."

"But you do love him, don't you?"

"I do love him Di and that's why it hurts me so much to see him hurt...especially because of me. But I don't have an option. I have to put him through all of this. There is a lot in his life that he has to learn the hard way."

Over the next month, Kripa, Armaan, and DK continued scaring Naina by bringing DK before her. Now she was actually seeing him everywhere without him actually being there. Kanan had been seeing a physiotherapist and was at home now. Kripa has slowly filled her in on every detail of the past years and the plan. Kanan was with Kripa, Armaan, DK and chief now, helping them succeed in their plan. Kripa had started distancing herself from Angad again, preparing him for the final blow of their plan. Her and her healthy twins were in the eighth month of the pregnancy. Armaan and Riddhima were happily engaged, getting married in 2 months.

One day, Kripa gave Naina the biggest shock of her life. Angad, Armaan, and Riddhima were sitting in the living room when Kripa walked in with a beautiful woman who appeared to be in her late 40's. Angad's face caught the confused expression when he saw the lady.

Kripa: Angad...this is Avantika Aunty. She helped me a lot after mom and dad......

Angad smiled at the lady and walked up to her. He bent to touch her feet.

Avantika: Jeete raho beta. So you're Kripa's husband?

Angad: yeap...I'm the lucky one.

Avantika smiled at him. "She's a wonderful girl. She cares for me as if she's my daughter."

Angad just smiled proudly. Just then, Naina stepped out of her room.

"What the hell is she doing here?!" Naina yelled.

wowo! awesomeio part :) must be a shocker for kanan, coming out of a coma to find all this out...but poor angad...i feel so bad for him 😭😭
and that kiss! it was so close to happeninggg! but you didn't let it happen😭 we definitely want tons and tons and tons of sweetly cute/romantic AK parts after all this is over😉

and o.O avantika....excited to see whats going to happen next!

and looking foward to october 23rd :)
