Part 22
Riddhima's return to the motel was a blur she didn't remember walking to the train station, getting on the train, or even walking to her room. All she remembered was seeing Sid, she remembered what her heart had felt, what it had hoped for. Then she remembered what she had caused him and she tried to block out what her heart wanted to feel so badly. Fortunately she had received that second phone call, it had offset the one before. She had grabbed at it as if it were her lifeline. It was ironic really how her world had completely turned upside down and sideways. It was as if she was living in an alternate universe. And it had been like that ever since that day when she had to watch Sid walk away from her forever. When he had walked away he hadn't just changed her present and what she thought was going to be her future, but he had changed the relationships of her past, forever.
The phone call had kept her company the whole way back to the hotel and had kept her thoughts from completely taking over. She had debated about whether or not she should tell the person on the phone who she had just run into, literally. But it had been too freash and truth be told it had simply not come out despite the fact that she had opened her mouth multiple times and attempted to do so.
All she had the energy for once she got back to her room was to take off her extra clothes and drop onto the bed. She knew sleep wasn't going to come so as she laid on the bed and stared at the ceiling she finally let the moments of the night wash over her. And as they did she let her heart weep with joy and sadness at what could have been, and what really was.

Shilpa was getting ready for work even though everything still ached and hurt. She had hoped that at least some numbness would have set in to help her get through the days. But it hadnt and she wasn't going to waste anymore time waiting for her heart to feel better, and she was definitely not going to wallow any longer. No boy, not even one as adorable as Akash was worth more than 2 days of wallowing. Life moved on. Heck it was what she had just told Sid before she had left to take a gamble on her heart. But then she hadn't had a clue of the kind of pain that your heart went through. She couldn't help but think back to when Sid had gone through something like that and not just once but over and over. To have that hope built up, to believe you were going to get to be with the woman you love, and that she was going to be with you. And then to have to give it all away for her happiness, to walk away with a broken heart so that hers could be full. She knew she had wronged Akash, that she was the one that had walked away and that's why deep in her heart she couldn't blame him for moving on. Heck she had practically demanded it of him when she turned him down unknowingly again and again. But Sid had never turned his back on Ridz and he had never walked away from her, even when he had every right to, even when she had asked, he hadn't. He had simply backed off allowing her the illusion of him leaving, but still he was always stood by her side to catch her if she ever stumbled. Which she did. Shilpa realized she was falling behind and shrugged off the thoughts and finished getting ready and headed out the door with the intention of grabbing on to life and moving forward no matter how much pain her heart was in.

Sid signed off on the latest chart he had just written a note in. Set the chart down and stretched his arms above his head and tried to work out the kinks in his back. He took a glance at his schedule and was once again glad that he had only a short day today, he wasn't sure if he would have been able to handle a full day at the clinic after last night. Before he could dwell on it the nurse came in to let him know that his next patient was ready. He glanced at the name and couldn't help but smile as he saw who his next patient was. "Dhuval, my main man how's it going?" Sid asked as he entered the room and saw one of his favorite patients sporting his new shaggy hair do. Sid grinned at the change the boy had undergone over the past few months. Dhuval looked up from is PSP and saw him and his face broke out in a grin as he got up and ran to hug Sid. Sid closed his arms around him and smiled at Dhuval's parents who seemed just as eager to see Sid as he was to tell them the news. As Dhuval let go, Sid grabbed the stool and inquired how school was going and if he had made it on the hockey team. As the young boy told him about his school, friends and of course hockey Sid remembered that this was why he had chosen the speciality he had. And that any hardwork and even heartache was worth it be able to help people like he had been with Dhuval.
Once Dhuval had wound down from filling in his favorite doctor on the happenings of his life, Sid opened up the file in his hand and pulled out the reports they all had been waiting for. He glanced down to double check everything and when he looked up he saw the anxiousness on all three faces and he couldn't keep his grin in any longer as he bared his teeth he filled them in on the good news, "Congratulations, you are a survivor." Everyone in the room erupted with smiles and sighs of relief. Dhuval jumped up out of his chair and ran and give Sid a giant hug, and unlike before Dhuval's parents couldn't stop themselves they ran towards the kind hearted doctor and engulfed their son's embrace in theirs as their lips poured out a continous chains of thank yous. After a few minutes everyone gathered themselves and Sid once again got countless thank yous as the ecstatic family left with smiles on their face. Sid walked towards his office a serene smile on his face his heart feeling lighter, his problems seeming insignificant.

Avni was at work but found herself getting distracted over and over. Thoughts of the previous night kept flashing through her mind. She found herself reaching for her cell phone countless times, starting to dial only to find herself catching herself and stopping. She had no clue what to say, if Sid would even want to hear from her after all of the things she had told him. After finding herself reaching for her phone for what must have been the tenth time she gave up on trying to do anymore work, gathered up her things and told her PA that she was going for a long lunch and wasn't sure when she'd be back. She called the babysitter letting her know that she was on her way to pick up the kids and headed for the only place she could think of where she would find some peace.
