Mom: Dekho'.tum bas vaada karo mujhse'.tum kuch aisa waisa nahi karoge'.

Rudhir: Fine'.I promise'.

Dad: Dekhna'.vaada tod mat dena'.

Rudhir: Main vaada todne walo me se nahi hu'.when I said I'll behave'.it means I will'.but behave to main tab karunga'.jab saamne koi hoga'..where's the "girl"??? (he acts out the apostrophe while saying "girl")

Just then Alpana enters wid her father'.

MS (Mr. Sharma): Hello Mr. Mittal'.sorry aane me zara der ho gayi'.

Dad: Arre koi baat nahi'.it has not been too long'.(at this Rudhir raises an eye-brow)

MS: Waise'.ye meri beti Alpana'.(and she greets all)

Dad: Aur ye Rudhir'.(he greets them as well)

Mom: Waise'.hum sab khade kyun hai?? Baith jate hai'.

Rudhir/Alpana: (murmur) Exactly!!

For some time'.the elders hav their chats like wat all they do, their business, family and all'..and throughout the time'.Rudhir & Alpana keep looking here and there'..trying to think of ways''to reject the proposal!!!

Alpana: Dekhne me to thik lagta hai'.hath pair sahi salamat hai sab'.uff main bhi na'.Papa aise hi mere samne nahi laye honge na'.but then kya khaami dhundu??

Rudhir: She looks beautiful'.I mean'.she is beautiful'.to ab bahar se to koi khaami dikh nahi rahi hai'..may be baat karke aisa kuch pata chale'.jisse main inkaar kar saku'.

Mom: Arre beta'.tum dono chup kyun ho?? Kuch baat nahi karni hai kya??

MS: I think'.we shud let them talk in private'.baro ke saamne baat karne me shayad awkward feel kar rahe ho'

Dad: Oh yeah'.Rudhir'.tum aur Alpana jaa ke uss table pe baitho'.and hav sum chat ok? (Rudhir raises an eye-brow at his father while he glares bak at Rudhir)

MS: Yes Alpana'.go wid him!!

Alpana: (in mind) Go wid him!! Ek father apni hi beti ko keh raha hai'.go wid this guy'.wow'.gr8!!!

Rudhir & Alpana are now seated at another table'.which can be seen from their parents' one'..and so both of them were not missing their respective father's curious as well as warning glances!!! At first'.they wud just smile'..at each other'.more like a sarcastic one'.and so the silence prevailed for quite a few minutes'..but then Rudhir thought'.he must start.

Rudhir: Actually'.Ms. Alpana'I wud like to be very frank wid u'.

Alpana: Ahh'.same here!! In fact mujhe aapse ek request karni thi'.(Rudhir looks on so that she continues)'..main chahti thi ki aap iss shaadi se inkaar kar de'..

Rudhir: (grins suddenly) This means'.u don't want to marry me ryt?? (she nodded in a yes) Main aapko pasand nahi aya ryt??

Alpana: (felt a lil odd abt nodding at this) Dekhiye baat wo nahi hai'.its just'.

Rudhir: Arre'mujhe baat se matlab hi nahi hai'.I am just thankful that u can't get married to me'.bas aap ek meherbaani kijiye mujh pe'.pls reject my proposal'.

Alpana: Isnt this wat I told U to do??

Rudhir: Yeah I knw'.lekin main already 6 proposals reject kar chuka'.tarah tarah ke bahane bana ke'..this tym Dad wont just listen to me'..isiliye aap hi ko mana karna hoga'.

Alpana: But I can't'.mere papa ne mujhse kaha hai'.I will hav to show sum valid reason'.warna he won't listen to me as well!!

Rudhir: Valid reason?? Matlab??

Alpana: Matlab'.sumthing like'.aapki ye baat buri hai'.or ye adat buri hai'.ya ye soch sahi nahi lagi'.sumthing like that!!

Rudhir: U can make that up'.cant u??

Alpana: How can I make up things??

Rudhir: Arre'.kyun nahi kar sakti?? Jab main 6 baar bahane bana sakta hu'.aap ek baar nahi bana sakti??

Alpana: In that case'.u r the experienced one'..then why don't u suggest me sumthing?? Kya kahu main apne Papa se'.ki aap me kya burayi hai?? Do u drink or smoke?? (he shook his head in a no) Late night parties?? Girlfrnds?? Flirting?? (He shook his head in a no everytym) See'.u actually don't hav such habits!! And I cant lie as well'.mere papa meri har baat ko scrutinize karenge'and will see if wat I said is ryt or not'

Rudhir: Ohh'.ye to musibat hai!!

Alpana: Wo to hai'..coz as far as I can see'.I havnt found a single flaw in you!!!

Rudhir: Same here!! But c'mon lets knw abt each other's thoughts'.and views'.I am sure'kuch to clash karega'.then we can easily deny the proposal in that regard!!

And so Rudhir and Alpana go on talking abt various things'.but to their utter dislike no certain thought clashes'.and even if sumthing does'.quite unknown to them they wud cum to an adjustment for that!!

Rudhir: Okay'.this is not happening!! Aap me aisi koi bhi baat nahi hai'.jisse hatiyar bana ke main iss rishte se inkaar kar sakta hu''Pls aap kuch bhi karke mana kar do na!!

Alpana: I can't'.so u do it'.6 baar kiya hai'.7^th tym karne me kya jayega??

Rudhir: (irritated) U just don't get it do u??

Alpana: (irritated) Same goes for u'ryt?

Here the elders were happy to see them 'engrossed' in sum chats'..they were happy to see them'. they thought may be'.Rudhir n Alpana wud not even like to talk to each other'.but here they were quite comfortably 'discussing' wid each other'..it was a gud sign!!!

After a while the food was served'..and Rudhir n Alpana had again joined their parents!! They finished eating looking completely irritated''.they had to find some way out'.or else they wud be married!!!!

Mom: Haan beta'.batao na'. mujhe to wo ladki badi pyari lagi!!

Rudhir: Lekin mujhe wo ladki badi akroo lagi'..kitni ajeeb hai wo Maa'..I'm not really interested in this proposal....just not my type!! (and he bit his tongue after saying this'.coz he knws wat mess will this 'type' create now)

Dad: Type matlab?? Dekho hum yaha koi cheez kharid nahi rahe hai'.jo tum apne type ki cheez dhund rahe ho'.hum ek bahu dhund rahe hai'.tumhari patni dhund rahe hai hum''aur aise mamlo me'.iss 'type/vype' pe dhyan nahi diya jata'.bahut si baton pe gaur karna hota hai'..aur haan'.mujhe bhi ladki bahut suljhi hui aur sanskari lagi'.aur tumhari bewkufi ki wajah se main ye rishtaa nahi gawaunga'.samjhe?? (and he leaves)

Rudhir: Mom'.ye Dad itna zidd kyun kar rahe hai?? Aap samjhao na unhe!!

Mom: Dekh Rudhir''.tujhe koi aur pasand to nahi hai na? (he shook his head in a no) To kya problem hai beta?? Ab to main bhi thak chuki hu beta'.kab tak tu yu shaadi se dur bhagega'..aur phir kyun?? Tujhe kyun lagta hai shaadi ek bojh hogi tere liye??

Rudhir: Mom'.aap hi sochiye na'..maine apni puri zindagi apni marzi se jee hai'..naa koi rok-tok''..naa koi sawal-jawab'..bilkul apne andaaz se jeeta aya hu main'..wo hi karta aya hu'..jo mujhe pasand ho''ab aise me kisi aur ko zindagi me shaamil karna'.kya ye zaruri hai mom??

Mom: Haan'..tu abhi nahi samajh raha hai'.kyunki abhi teri zindagi ek tez raftaar se guzar rahi hai'..bahut kuch hai karne ko'.lekin ek waqt ayega'.jab zindagi me tujhe ek thehrao mehsus hogi'.uss waqt tujhe kisiki saath ki zarurat hogi'..wo saath tujhe teri biwi de sakti hai'.koi aur nahi!! Isiliye kehti hu'.maan jaa beta!! Ladki bahut achhi hai!!

And his mom also leaves'..but not before leaving him in thoughts!!!

MS: Aur kuch bura tha usme? (she shook her head in a no) Dekh Alpu'.jhooth mat bol'..ladka bahut achha hai'.aur nek dil ka bhi lagta hai'.

Alpana: Achha?? Aapko kaise pata chala uska dil nek hai ya nahi?

MS: Uski aankhon se'.ek sacchayi thi unme'.aur phir uske gharwale bhi bahut achhe hai''.waise to tu Delhi me rahegi'..par phir bhi'.saas-sasur se achha relation hona'..bahut zaruri hota hai''.aur unse milke laga'..wo kaafi bhale log hai'.aur phir Mishra ji laye hai ye rishtaa'..achhe log hai tabhi laye hai na?? Dekh Alpu'.mujhe rishtaa bahut achha laga''shayad unhe bhi tu pasand aa gayi hai'..kal pakki baat hogi'aur main 'haan' kehne wala hu'.

Alpana: Aap meri marzi ke khilaaf meri shaadi tay karenge?? (she tried the emotional way)

MS: Tu apni mom par gayi hai bilkul'.natak karna nahi ata tujhe beta!!! Aur haan'.rahi baat marzi ki'..to tune kaha tujhe koi aur pasand nahi hai'..naa hi tujhe usme 'ghamand' ke alawa koi aur burayi dikhi'..to inn sab cheezon ko analyze karne ke baad'.main to sure hu'..ye rishtaa bilkul sahi hai tere liye'..apne Papa ke faisle par itna bharosa to hai na??

Alpana: Haan Papa'.aap par bharosa hai'.lekin kisi aur par nahi!! Papa'.aap to jante ho na'.main kaisi hu'..I mean'..aapne kabhi bhi mujhe kisi sahi baat ke liye nahi roka'..maine hamesha apni dil ki suni'.kisiki parwa nahi kii''I'm brought up like this Papa'..I've been a pampered girl'..lekin koi ajnabee......jo ki bahut ghamandi bhi hai'..wo thodi mujhe pamper karega?? Meri care karega?? Aur to aur'.mujhe bhi uske liye socha hoga na'.I mean'.its all new responsibilities'.jab ki aapko pata hai'.mujhse zimmedariya sambhli nahi jaati'.I cant handle them Papa'..to main kaise shaadi kar lu??

MS: (smiles) Aisa to shayad har ladki ke saath hota hai beta''.lekin isse agar sabne shaadi karni bandh kar dii'..to don't u think ek bahut badi samsya ho jayegi??

Alpana: (laughs unwantedly) Papa!!'.aap mazak kar rahe ho??

MS: Nahi Alpu'.main bas samjhana chahta hu'.ki har kadam pe'.kuch naya ata hai''..zindagi aage badhti hai'..to raahein bhi nayi hongi na''.par hamein use darrna nahi chahiye''ek nayi raah matlab ek naya manzil''ek nayi khushi!!

Alpana: Par hamesha khushi milegi'..ye zaruri to nahi hai na??

MS: Bilkul nahi'.kabhi kabhi dard bhi milta hai'.par phir bhi zindagi aage badhti hai'..jaise meri zindagi badh rahi hai'.tere Maa k jaane ke bawjud!!! Main chah kar bhi'.theher nahi paya'..aage badhna hi padha'.kyunki ye jeevan ka dastoor hai beta'.u need to move on!! Aur phir yakeeen kar mera'..ladka bahut achha hai!!

MS pats her head affectionately and then leaves''.letting her think abt everything!!!

Rudhir's thoughts:

Shayad Mom sahi keh rahi hai'.waise bhi kab tak bhagunga shaadi se'..Dad to mujhe chhorne wale hai nahi'..aur iss baar'..ladki chipku types nahi hai'..naa hi too shy hai''may be I shud say a yes'..but pehle Alpana se ek baar baat kar lunga'..haan'.ye sahi hoga I think!!

Alpana's thoughts:

Papa sahi hai''aisa kab tak karungi?? Aur phir'.ladka utna bhi bura nahi hai'..sach me to koi flaw nahi dikha'.maybe I shud agree to this proposal'..Dad soch samajh kar hi mujhe zor de rahe honge na'..hmm'.yehi sahi hoga!!

Next day'..Rudhir's room'..he was wide awake'.looking out of the window''when his father enters the room'.

Dad: Kya soch rahe ho??

Rudhir: (surprised becoz his dad never really enters his room) Aap??

Dad: Kyun?? Aane ki ijazat nahi hai kya??

Rudhir: Dad pls'.kuch bhi mat kahiye!!

Dad: To tum hi kaho'.kya soch rahe the?? In fact'.kya socha??

Rudhir: Kya main Alpana se ek baar aur mil sakta hu?? I think'.we need to talk!!

Dad: Phir se?? Okay'.main Mr. Sharma se baat karta hu'.waise tumhe abhi bhi aitraaz hai iss rishte se??

Rudhir: I'll let u knw Dad'..

So Rudhir and Alpana meet again''in a coffee shop!! Well'.none of the families were conservative'.so didn't object at all!!

Alpana: Dobara kyun milna chahte the aap??

Rudhir: Kyunki'.main mana nahi kar paya!! Hamari ore se rishte ke liye 'haan' kaha jayega!!

Alpana: (looking away) Hamari ore se bhi'.

Rudhir: (after a pause) Achha'.aap se ek baat poochhu??

Alpana: 'Nahi' bolne ka choice thodi hai mere paas''why don't u just ask??

Rudhir: Main bas janna chahta tha'..aapko iss shaadi se kya problem thi'.or may be hai?? I mean'.is there someone?

Alpana: No'.aisi koi baat nahi hai'..(after a pause) kya aapko koi'??

Rudhir: Nope'.I'm not into girls!!

It just slips out as initially he doesn't really catch the 'other' meaning''but as soon as he sees her eyes popping out'.he realizes what it sounded like'.and he quickly protests!!

Rudhir: Arre'.I didn't mean it like that'.aise kya dekh rahi ho?? Excuse me'.I'm not like that ok??

Alpana: Did I say something??

Rudhir: In that case'.TUM mujhe aise kyun dekh rahi thi??

Alpana: Meri marzi'.jisse chahu dekh sakti hu'.TUMHE puchhke dekhna hoga kya??

Rudhir just makes a face'..while she has a smile on her face. Rudhir suddenly realizes'.she had a beautiful smile'..which was making him smile as well!! Oh yes'.he was smiling wid her!!

Just then the coffee arrives'.which they had ordered'.coz they had to order at least something!! Alpana makes it for both of them'.and goes on to serve it'.but her hand starts shaking''making the coffee fall on the saucer'.and the table (not on him)'..She just looks at him apologetically'..feeling extremely embarrassed.

Alpana: I'm sorry'..actually I'm not used to such things'..and mere haath aise kampte hai'.

Rudhir: (smiles) It's ok'..hota hai'.after all'.aap jis cheez se used to nahi hai'..wo cheez karna bahut mushkil ho jata hai'.I understand!!

And he very nicely takes the tissues kept there''and begins to wipe the table a bit'.so that the coffee doesn't drip on him later!! Alpana looks at him'..as he keeps wiping making a cute face!! Unknowingly she liked the fact that he understood!!

Alpana: Umm'.main phir se bana deti hu'.and this tym'.tum khud le lena'.main serve nahi karne wali'..

Rudhir just laughs hearing her words'..she was basically pouting at her own deed'..she was still embarrassed'..and as she sees him laughing'..she felt all the more stupid!!

Alpana: Mera mazak bana rahe ho??

Rudhir: Kisne kaha??

Alpana: To phir hass kyun rahe ho??

Rudhir: Meri marzi'.kyun?? Tumse puchhke hassna padega kya?? (he gives the dose bak to her)

Alpana: (rolling her eyes) Naya dialogue bhi nahi mila??

Rudhir: May be'nahi mila!! (he says wid attitude)

And they leave after a while''.not really on a gud note'but not on a bad note either!!

Soon the alliance is fixed'.and it was a "chat mangni pat shaadi" kinda situation'.coz Rudhir had to join bak to his office soon.

On the day of engagement'..a conversation btwn Rudhir-Alpana''after exchanging the rings''..

Rudhir/Alpana: Kuch baat karni hai!!

Rudhir: Tumhe bhi??

Alpana: Kyun?? Main baat nahi kar sakti kya??

Rudhir: Maine aisa kab kaha yaar?? Uff'.tum bhi na!! Ab kaho'kya kehna hai??

Alpana: (smiles at a guest who just comes there to congratulate them) Aise sabke samne kaise discuss karu?? Dekho'.kuch der me khana serve hoga'.hamein to baad me khana hai'.to tab hum lawn me jaa ke baat karenge ok??

Rudhir: Yeah'ok!!

After a while'.in the lawn'.

Alpana: Dekho'.sach ye hai ki'.iss shaadi ke liye maine bahut zyada nahi socha'.I mean'.SHAADI hone jaa rahi hai'..aur''maine bas apne Papa pe bharosa karke 'haan' kii hai'..warna mujhe shaadi karni hi nahi thi'.mujhe azaadi pasand hai'..I do not like to be bound!! Aur jaise jaise shaadi ka din kareeb aa raha hai'.u knw'.mujhe bahut ajeeb lag raha hai'.in fact main jo bhi kehna chahti hu'.shayad wo baat hi kuch ajeeb lage'..u see'.abhi abhi mangni bhi ho gayi'..aur main shayad tumhe terms batane jaa rahi hu'.

Rudhir: (cutting her) Listen'..tum itna mat hesiatate karo'..Actually''mujhe bhi''.bandhan achha nahi lagta'..sach kahu to'..maine bhi shayad'.aise hi 'haan' kar dii'.kisiko na kisiko to approve karna hi padhta'..par mere parents ko tum bahut achhi lagi'.to bas main maan gaya''warna mujhe bhi apne life me interference pasand nahi hai'.I'm not really interested in this 'marriage' thing and all....

Alpana: (turns around to him wid a smile) In that case'.let's make a deal'.I mean'.hum me se koi bhi'.kisike life me'.dakhal nahi dega''.mera matlab'..tumhe jaise jeena hai tum jeeyo'.main apne tarike se jeeyungi''koi complains nahi honge'.koi expectations nahi honge ok??

Rudhir: (smiles at the very thought) Done'.mujhe ye idea kaafi achha laga'.wo typical husband-wife relation bhi nahi hoga'.koi jhanjhat bhi nahi hogi'..I think'..this is nice!! No rights'..no responsibilities'..hmm'..this shud work!!! Well thought Alpu!! (and he clasps his hands together in anticipation)

She just looks up at him as he calls her 'Alpu''..he must hav heard her father calling her so''but as he calls it himself'.she doesn't feel bad'..she was amused!!! However'.they soon go in'..after all it was their engagement party!!!

Being the only child of their parents'..both Rudhir and Alpana had been pampered much''and so both were adherent to adjustment!! Both used to think'. "I hav always thought abt myself'.my life revolves around me'.how can sum1 else get into it'.just like that? I can't adjust to any changes"''so now they just decided to be away from this 'adjustment'!!

After a few days'.the marriage also takes place'..and soon Rudhir-Alpana find themselves in "their home". Alpana steps in surveying the whole flat'..it was not very big'..of course becoz he used to live here alone'.why wud he need a big home?? But wat pleased her was the tidiness of the house'..she was glad it didn't turn out to be a typical 'bachelor' home!!

Soon they enter the bedroom'..

Rudhir: So this is the bedroom'.aur wo raha cupboard'.tum apna samaan unpack karke waha adjust karlo'.waise to mere kapde honge waha'.but still there is enough space!! Aur main kuch khane ko order karta hu ok?

He leaves as she nods. And here she keeps looking around the room''she notices the large bed in the centre of the room'..the first thing that came to her mind was'.she has to 'share' it with him'..but then the size was big enough and she was somehow relieved to realize dat!! Then her eyes fall on his photo hung right over the bed'..somehow his eyes caught her attention'..which had a glint in them!! But'.she just looks away to find a rocking chair'..near the balcony'.and also a coffee table in front of that'..she cud see the coffee jar and mug right there'.he seemed to be fond of having coffee!!!

However Alpana moves towards the cupboard and sets her own things in it'..and here Rudhir'..orders food for both of them'..after ordering for him'.he carefully thinks'.wat all she had eaten that day'..and he ordered almost the same'.thinking that might be her fav. He knew he cud simply ask her before ordering'..but then quite unknown to him'..he actually enjoyed thinking abt that day'..there was a pleasure in thinking as well'!!!

At night'..as Rudhir comes out of the washroom he finds Alpana sitting on the bed.

Rudhir: Any problem?

Alpana: Umm'.tum kis side pe sote ho??

Rudhir: (raises an eye-brow) Main'.centre pe sota THA'.(and he hides his smile that came up automatically hearing her cute question)

Alpana: (looks down) Main right side pe so jau??

Rudhir just smiles at her cuteness'.and nods in a yes!! And without wasting a moment'.she lies down'..and soon drifts off to sleep!! She was of course tired'..but more than that'..she was trying to avoid him'..at night at least!!

Rudhir-Alpana's life goes on like this'..where none wud interfere in other's matters!! Initially both were facing sum problems'..actually very tiny issues'..but they were solved eventually!! For them'.life was moving smoothly'.without any 'adjustment' being done'..they did not hav to alter any habits'.they cud live just the way they intended to'..if Rudhir got late'.Alpana wud not ask him typical 'wifey' questions'..nor wud Rudhir forbid her from doing anything or going anywhere!! Both were earners'..so expenses were not a problem at all!! They did not feel much change'.other than having to see each other's face daily'..and that was not an unpleasant sight at all'!!!
