Dreamlaaaand...part 2
Geet was soon given her cabin, and a load of files.
"These are the files of all the employees in the Finance Wing of Dreamland Productions. I want you to sort them out in alphabetical order. Nothing should go wrong," Sarla instructed. "We need these files because many of them have not updated their profile details. We are planning to set up a mass communicating system throughout the entire company on Vicky's orders." Geet found it strange that Sarla was not referring to Vicky as 'Sir.' She wondered whether there was something going on between Sarla and Vicky.
"Don't get naughty thoughts Geet," said Sarla, almost relaxing from her robotic posture as she laughed. "No one here is compelled to call anyone 'Sir' or 'Madam'. You do whatever you want freely-just don't disturb the stars and do your work nicely. There are no timings-the moment you finish your work for the day you can leave. This is truly a Dreamland Geet...don't do anything wrong here..," she said, almost sternly.
"No Ma'am-I mean Sarla, I'll do my work properly," said Geet firmly. She had vowed that she would not give Maan a chance to say that he had not made a bad choice by kicking her out. She was here to stay-even Babaji could not change that. And anyway, it was a nice place. She hadn't met anyone she disliked much-yet.
Suddenly, her cellphone rang. She picked it up.
"So Geet, how are things going?" Her heart skipped a beat. It was Maan on the line.
"Everything's going good Maan," she said.
Maan was taken aback. Where was the Sir? "Geet...what about the Sir?" he asked, forgetting his stern demeanour and being almost childish.
"I do not work any longer for you Mr. Khurana. And here at Dreamland we don't call anyone Sir."
"Oh..so Vicky's spell is on you."
"Vicky is a very nice person. Better than you," she said, and regretted the last sentence almost instantly.
"Geet," said Maan firmly, "Yeh mat bhulo ki yeh naukri maine tumhe di hai....mai na hota to aaj tu Queen of Sheba ban ke phir nahin rahi hoti..."
"Maan..main kahi bhi phirne nahin jaa rahi hoo..main to yahaan apne office main hi baithi hoon," Geet quipped.
Maan controlled an urge to laugh and said, "Theek hai..main bhi dekhta hoo ki tu kitni der yahaan tikti hai..." And he put down the phone.
Feeling Sarla's gaze on her from outside Geet decided to concentrate on the files. She opened the first one and was shocked. It was almost empty.
"Okay...lets sort them out from the completed ones to the blank ones..." she decided. But she met another challenge-they were all almost empty. She was shocked. The last Secretary had gone into Dreamland herself or what? Remembering Maan's words, she decided to ask Sarla for help. But when she walked outside, Sarla was gone. Instead she was stuck in a fantasy world of employees working, too busy to notice here. She was in a nightmare.
"I'll ask Vicky about this," and she went to an employee and asked him, "Kya aap mujhe bata sakte ho ki Vicky Sir-matlab Vicky kahaan milenge?"
"Vicky Sir to business meeting ke liye Singapore gaye hain, teen din baad aayenge."
"Kya Singapore ki sair karne gaye hai kya," Geet muttered to herself.
She dumped herself in the office chair and held her head in her hands, frustrated. What would she do? She was stuck with what seemed to be invisible ink on pieces of paper. And suddenly she decided to think what Maan would do in her situation.
Maan would angrily shout on the loudspeaker for all employees of the Finance Wing to come and collect their files and fill them immediately.
She decided to do the same-but she was a secretary, not the managing director like Maan was. Feeling more frustrated, but with no choice left she went to the speaker box in her office and her voice boomed out "Please, all Finance Employees come to Cabin no 102 now!"
She waited for a file of them to pour. Instead of a stream, all she got was a trickle.
"Baaki sab log kahan hai?" she asked nervously.
"Madam, itne tevar mat dikaao. Yeh production ki duniya hai. Hum log sab busy hai. In files ko fill karna hamaara nahin, aapka kaam hai."
"But I don't even know you!" she protested.
"Hum maise kisi bhi dusre log ko unke naam se nahin jaante. Jaante hai hum..aap ka Vicky Sir ke bhai ke saath koi connection hai...lekin iska matlab yeh nahin ki hum aapki seva karenge." Before Geet could reply back they all scattered.
She moaned..."Babaji..meri maddad karo."
