Chapter Twelve
Geet was sitting in the office typing away as usual on a computer, sending important e-mails to Maan's clients. Maan had a very important party to hold. When she had asked him as to what it was, he had simply told her that it was something related to Project Hoshiarpur. However, Geet suspected something else.
The whole day, after the disastrous meeting, the entire office had been involved in preparations. Armed with sarcastic remarks, Sasha and Tasha had followed Geet the whole day, gossiping about her to no extent.
"I think Geet has come into this office to destroy Maan. But why should it matter to her? She can always go and seduce someone else into hiring her." snickered Sasha.
Maan was passing by when he heard that remark.
"Ms. Sasha Saksena."
Sasha's head swiveled around.
"Employee Code of Conduct clearly states that no employee will make personal remarks about the other. All conversation has to be strictly professional."
"What this...Geet flirting with you everyday?" she asked boldly. Everyone stood up with rapt attention. Their ears were itching to hear the scandal playing out of their eyes. Sasha immediately regretted what she had said. It was okay to insult the secretary, but never the boss.
For Maan did take it as an insult-to his carefully prepared rules of conduct. His heart seemed to be very pleased with the fact that the employees seemed to think that Geet liked him. Male ego or something else?
Geet instantly blushed, and Maan felt awkward when he noticed that. Taking it to be a sign of humiliation, he immediately fired up.
"Ms. Sasha Saksena, do not forget, this Geet's life, not yours. Why should it matter to you if I am in a relationship with Ms. Geet?"
Now this was a spellbinding moment. Sasha had the moment to say what her short skirts and new hairstyles had failed to do.
Instead she stuttered, "No problems, sir."
"Good. Because even if you had any problems, I don't care," he remarked casually throwing the entire office into the frenzy they had been waiting for ever since they saw the simple Geet joining office.
She had spent the entire day in thought, piecing up the puzzle. The last minute inclusion of her ideas. Him defending her in front of his most important clients. And then the battle with Sasha, who had been like a best friend-well at least that's what Sasha thought-with MSK for so many years. She was one of the first employees and the most loyal.
But Geet had a knack for making her forget that, considering her growing closeness to Maan.
But no one in the office knew what Maan had in store for them at the grand party he was holding at the Imperial Palace, one of the most successful hotels in the city and the hip night spot youngsters craved for.
But Geet was already catching on. In each e-mail, she had to write the same thing again and again-MSK invites you to his blah blah party in the blah blah hotel and please do come or else blah blah.
This blah blah business was getting too much for her.
She had to do some serious investigation.
Firstly, she examined the list of clients to e-mail. She had had it double-checked with Maan much to his annoyance, as Sasha had prepared the list. She did not want a jealous-colleague fiasco, thank you very much. They were all just general clients-and for a moment Geet thought that it was simply some kind of success party celebrating the comapany's sky-high profits.
But he had a strict rule that there would be no celebration parties just because the share prices went up. According to him they kept on fluctuating, and all they had to do was maintain the consistency of profits, and not waste their time celebrating them.
She then got a heart-stopping thought into her mind-what if Maan was getting engaged? She knew rich people had a habit of inviting the entire world to their weddings. But then, who would be his fiance? Every woman close to Maan had either been insulted or ignored by him. Especially Geet.
She wondered whether Maan already had a wife. In that case, why was there no photo on the table of her, or a wedding ring on his hand?
Maan's mysterious background was making her more curious by the minute.
"Oh Babaji," she thought to herself, "Maine bhi apna atheet itni acchi tarah se nahin chipaaya jitna Maan sir ne kiya he."
