Part # 15
Adil and Ashna get back to Mumbai. As soon as they reach home Rashi is the first one to receive them. After greeting back her AB she gives a tight hug to her favourite Bhabhi while Adil clearly notices the warmth btwn the two girls.
Rashi: I missed you Bhabhi''u took long!!
Ashna: Ah'wo Adil ko kuch kaam tha na. Usi me der ho gayi''otherwise main to jaldi ane wali thi. Waise aaj to koi occasion nahi hai. But sumone is looking extremely nice!!
Ashna says this eying Rashi from head to toe as Rashi is wearing sumthing traditional without any occasion!!
Rashi: (smiles coyly) I told u na Bhabhi'.I opted for a whole new set of outfits!! Bas usika kamaal hai and thanks for the compliment.
Ashna: Hmm'.gud!! It looks nice on you!!
Ashna was abt to enter her room when she found Adil halted in the midway. He was going to meet his mom when he stopped to hear their conversation.
Ashna: Adil wats wrong wid you? Ab to tum kahin bhi khare ho kar sochne lage ho.
Adil: Ha? (and he breaks his chain of thoughts) Oh'that's not the case ok!! I am going!!
"Now wont she ever let me think?"
Now Adil meets his mom who was finally happy n relieved to see her Adil back after so many days!!
Adil: I knw Mom'.aap ne mujhe bahut miss kiya and so did I. But dekha jaye to u were the one eager to send me there, so u don't get to act so upset ok? (she is abt to sign sumthing but he cuts her) And don't even think of trying to make me emotional. Aap janti hai main abhi kya baat karne wala hu'''hai na? Mom'.Doctor se baat hui hai meri'.there is no sign of improvement!! And we both knw its not merely abt treatment and all'.Its abt you!! U just don't try!! Itne saalo se ek hi baat aap ke aage dauhrate hue thoda thak gaya hu Mom'..(and now he looks down as he seems tired'..tired of perhaps everything) nahi pata kitna haq hai mera aap pe but I assume'.itna haq shayad hai ki aapke muh se ek baar khudka naam sunn saku!!
Saying this Adil gets up abruptly and leaves the room. He doesn't look back and for the first tym in all these years he acted so defeated in front of her!! The plea in his words was inevitable!! She didn't find him so much helpless even when he was found in the streets!!
Mrs. Gayatri Raichand (GR) remembers the tym when she along wid Mr. Raichand had spotted him in a tea stall near a particular signal He used to assist in the shop and they had noticed him several times!! And then one day they were at an orphanage for donation and they found him there!! He lived there after his mother's death!!
Mr. and Mrs. Raichand were rather astonished to knw he preferred to work despite being in the care of the orphanage. He had said he didn't like to be indebted and wished to justify his existence in this earth as much as possible. His words had touched Mrs. Raichand and Mr. Raichand cud see thru his stone cold eyes back then. At that very point he had seen 'integrity' in Adil's character!!
They wanted to bring him home. Sumhow Mr. Raichand himself wanted to nourish that quality in him. But Adil was not very sure at first, he was skeptical and wondered why anyone wud want to take him home, bring him up as his own son and consider a nobody as somebody in the family!! Adil was not used to such kindness especially when he knws his own father wasn't even least kind to his mother!! But gradually he realized the fact that not everyone was alike and Mr. Raichand truly had a golden heart!! So he came along!!
Since then he was the eldest son of the family. But GR doesn't remember him claiming or enjoying any right of that position. Instead he wud take up all the responsibilities given to him and fulfil them wid all his might!! After all that was Him''that was Adil. Validating his existence was a must part of him!! He wud not just remain grateful for all the favours''.reciprocating them was his intrinsic nature!!
It was true the Raichands did a lot for him but GR very well realizes wat all he did for them. After Mr. Raichand's death everything wud hav been gone if Adil was not there!! Rishabh was never the son who could take up responsibilities. It wasn't his fault though, its just he simply cudnt do it. After all not everyone is meant for everything!! So Mrs. Raichand took it as a boon that Adil was there!!
After that fateful departure, Adil had becum colder than usual. He initially apologized for that accident but realized GR never considered him responsible. So he let that be''.but perhaps deep down he still felt a bit responsible. Sumtyms it was evident in his eyes that he regretted!!
Now that GR remembers those moments she still doesn't find an instance when he looked so defeated!! Not even when he had to witness his Baba's death, not when he had to shoulder the whole family, not when he was accused of being responsible for everything and not also when he had to bear all the insult inflicted upon him. He was always dauntless but today he didn't seem that unbreakable anymore.
Here Adil enters his room and just a minute after him Rashi enters too.
Rashi: AB!!
Adil: Haan?
Rashi: Arre aap ne to abhi tak change bhi nahi kiya. Achha aap change karke mere room me aa jana pls'.mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hai.
Adil nods and Rashi leaves giving a smiling acknowledgment to Ashna.
Ashna: Rashi bahut khush lag rahi hai na? And she seems different too!!
Adil: Must be becoz of her new dressing!!
Ashna: I didn't say she 'looks' different'..I said she 'seems' different!! But anyways'.main kabhi kabhi zyada sochti hu I knw, so let it be!!
Now Adil is wid Rashi and she is very much excited to hold a surprise party for her Bhabhi's birthday!!
Rashi: AB''parso surprise party arrange karte hai, Bhabhi ko achha lagega!!
Adil: Kyun?
Rashi: C'mon AB hamare yaha unka pehla birthday hai'..she shud feel gud na?
Adil: Birthday?
Rashi: Now don't tell me''aapko nahi pata!!
Adil: Ahh'.I didn't say that'.lekin tujhe kaise pata chala? (he asks cautiously)
Rashi: Maine ek din baton baton me Bhabhi se puchha tha'..achha ab bataiye na'..party arrange kare kya?
Adil: Sure'..if u wish to!!
Rashi: Hmm'..achha sach sach bataiye'..u guys didn't have any private plan na?
Adil: Kya?
Rashi: Arre aap shocked kyun ho?? I asked coz iss party ki wajah se aapki koi private planning barbaad nahi honi chahiye na''.and again this is a surprise so Bhabhi ko koi wish nahi karega ok?
Adil: Okay and yeah there was no private plan, so go ahead!! Do whatever u want to ok?
Rashi: Hmm'..achha wo sab to thik hai'.but now most important thing, aapko uss din Bhabhi ko ghar se jaldi nikaalna hai and make sure she doesn't return before the evening!!
Adil: Ok, that will be done!! Khush? (he says so thinking he can easily keep her busy at office)
Rashi: Yeah'.am excited. Kitne din baad ek party hogi ghar me'..which is not for me........but by me!!
And Adil looked at Rashi who surely 'seemed' happy and different!! He thought, the happiness must have been derived from the excitement of the party, but wat abt her sudden coy behaviour?? Even Ashna felt sumthing different, but then Adil blew off those thoughts!! Perhaps both of them were actually thinking too much and there was no such difference at all.
Rashi: AB? Kahan kho gaye aap?
Adil: Nahi bas'..U seem different!!
Rashi: Ohh (she looks down and tugs her hair behind her ear) So is that gud or bad?
Adil again notices that coyness and now he cant ignore that anymore''especially when its his dearest sister!! So he gets up and speaks.
Adil: I hope its gud only!! Waise best of luck wid the party preparations, tell me if u need sum help!!
Adil leaves while Rashi nods confusedly as she doesn't really get his first words. But then she let that be!!
Next day Adil was overloading Ashna wid her work and she never felt so angry before!! Well everytym she was wid him she wud think she was angry to the utmost limit but the very next tym she knew she broke the previous limit!!
Right now she is looking for a file which she is unable to find''the anger level is on the rise and she is fidgeting wid thinks on the table. Just then the paper weight also falls down and Ashna feels like melting it in the fire!! Finally she gets the file and sits back on the chair going thru it. However all the while she doesn't forget to murmur her curses attributed to Adil.
"I feel like strangling u Adil Raichand. Kuch din chhutti me kya thi abhi tumhe bahana mil gaya mujhse kaam karwane ka!! Darn you'.pata nahi kal chhutti doge bhi ya nahi'..huh!! Ye project haasil karke tumhare muh pe phenkne ka mann karta hai'..stupid kahin ka!! Pata nahi khudko kya samajhta hai''itne bade empire ka maalik hai achhi baat hai'..lekin isme meri kya ghalti hai'..mujhe gadho ki tarah, ghoro ki tarah''in fact har animal ki tarah kaam karwata hai. Tumhe bhukh pyas nahi lagti gr8'..lekin mujhe to lagti hai. Subah subah neend se utha diya''thik se breakfast nahi kar payi'..abhi lunch me bhi nahi jaa sakti jab tak ye figures check na karu'..arghh!! And wat is this'.itne chhote fonts kyun hai'..the font size shud be 20'.aankhon me kitna pressure padh raha hai'.damn''aise to main andhi ho jaungi."
As Ashna was busy cursing Adil, he was busy admiring her!! When Ashna had dropped the paper weight she was shouting at it for falling and that's when Adil moved his gaze towards her cabin. He cud see her every action and very well realized how irritated she was. Even now as she goes thru the file, he sees her murmuring sumthing constantly and his lips cant help curving!! The girl cud be irritated wid slightest things!!
Next day was Ashna's birthday and she didn't want to be at office that day at least!! She wanted to talk to Adil but surprisingly he had left for office way too early!! So he called him up.
Ashna: Hello Adil, Ashna bol rahi hu.
Adil: I knw dat''tumne mobile se call kiya hai and again I recognize ur voice!!
Ashna: Haan wo'.. (thinks) Darn mujhe nervous karna zaruri tha kya? Ek to aaj chhutti chahiye ye kehte hi tumhari dus baatein sunni hogi'..am already nervous u stupid''.(aloud) Tum itni jaldi office ke liye kyun nikal gaye?
Adil: (thinks) Kyunki mujhe pata hai tum aaj bhi subah subah mera chehra nahi dekhna chahogi. (aloud) Kuch zaruri kaam tha'..kyun? Tumhe koi problem hai?
Ashna: Nahi bas tumse kuch kehna tha.
Adil: Am listening!!
Ashna: Main aaj office na aau to chalega?
Adil: Kyun? (he gets alert coz if she doesn't cum to office the surprise cannot be arranged at home) Ghar pe baithe baithe kya karna hai?
Ashna: Ghar pe baithne wali nahi hu main'..actually mujhe apne ghar jana tha'.aaj hi.
Adil: (knwing the reason very well avoids asking further questions) Achha thik hai''waha kab tak rahogi?
Ashna: Lets see'.shyam tak aa jaungi I guess'..
Adil: Okay''.lekin agar tumhara kaam usse pehle khatam ho jaye then office chali ana'..ghar jaake sone ki zarurat nahi hai. Gud bye!! (he adds the last line to make sure she doesn't leave the Sehgal House before evening and then he hangs up)
"Huh'..shyam se pehle waha se niklungi hi nahi'..tum rehna apne office me''I wont cum to that wretched place today. Kal waha ka nazara dekh kar pet bhar chuka hai mera"
At office'..
Shekhar: Hey Adil, aaj to party hai'..aaj jaldi chhutti milegi na?
Adil: Tum party me aa rahe ho?
Shekhar: Of course'.tumne invite nahi kiya so wat?? Rashi ne apna kaam kar diya hai'..and am going!!
Adil: Gr8 then'..invitation jab Rashi ne diya hai'..jaldi jaane ka permission bhi ussise mang le.
Shekhar: Hey don't be mean!! Aur phir tumhari biwi ka'..Adil Raichand ki biwi ka birthday hai. Aaj to office me holiday declare karna chahiye tha tumhe.
Adil: Wat?? U knw Shekhar'..u shud get a magnet ryt now and try to find ur screws using that. I am sure'.dimag ke saare screws kahin gir gaye hai and that's why u r talking such alien things to me.
Shekhar: Yeah ryt'..U r the odd one'..the alien out here got it? Anyways mujhe chhutti chahiye bas!!
Adil: Abhi jana hai??
Shekhar: If possible then yes!! Waise mera aaj ka kaam almost over hai'..jo bhi thoda sa baki hai'.wo kal kar dunga to problem nahi hogi.
Adil: (cutting him) Leave Shekhar!! Itna explain mat kar'..I don't need that from u. Tum niklo.
Shekhar: Aur janab aap?
Adil: I'll leave in half an hour!!
Shekhar: Yeah ryt'.ur 'half an hour'!!
Here Ashna was at Sehgal House. All the memories came rushing back to her mind as soon as she stepped in the house. Everything was kept that way but the liveliness of the house seemed to have faded. After all none lived here anymore. Ashna quickly went to her father's room and remained there cherishing every single thing that belonged to him, that reminded of him. Her eyes went moist but her lips bore a smile as she was surrounded by those memories again!!
Ashna basically chose to spend the day here becoz she thought none else knws abt her bday at the Raichand's home. She doesn't really remember she had ever mentioned abt her bday to Rashi and again if anyone had any idea then they wud hav called to wish her at least!! But anyways she didn't mind. She liked being here too.
It was almost evening time and Ashna had taken her lunch in the nearby restaurant. Now she was basically going thru sum photographs that she never took along!! But suddenly while keeping the album back to its place she dropped sumthing. And as she picked it up and opened it, she realized it was her father's diary!!
Ashna: Papa ki diary? I didn't even knw he used to keep a diary!!
Now without thinking anything anymore she starts flipping the pages of the diary!! It was the very last one that he wrote and it held those moments when she was abroad and used to talk to him on net!! She realized how her dad noted down every single thing she said. She now realized how attentively he actually listened to her every word. He had written abt everything related to her and sum other incidents that have been memorable for him.
While going thru the pages her eyes suddenly caught a familiar name 'Adil Raichand'. Mr. Sehgal had written abt him as well.
"Aaj main pehli baar Adil Raichand se mila. Bahut suna hai uske bare me after all he is talk of the town. Log usse bahut arrogant kehte hai lekin pata nahi kyun mujhe aisa nahi laga. He seems to be a gud kid."
"Aaj phir se Adil se mulakat hui ek party me!! And guess he is going for the same contract as me. Lagta hai ye contract mere haath se gaya."
"As I had thought, contract RGI le gayi and pata nahi kyun mujhe abhi se lag raha hai mera construction wala business mujhe shut down kar dena chahiye. The time is not very far when RGI will be ruling the construction business. And meri bas dua hai ki Adil Raichand ko Textile business ka shauk na chadhe. Coz that's my main genre!! But yeah jokes apart, iss bande me ajeeb si baat hai. Kuch aisa ki contract haarne ke bawjud main usse jaa kar congratulate karke aa gaya!!"
"Aaj phir Adil se baat hui and today I was less formal. Aur lagta hai usse agar ache se baat karo then he reciprocates the same warmth!! Waise aaj maine usse apni ek doubt clear karwa li''usse puchh hi liya kahin uska textile business me ane ka koi plan to nahi hai!! But he denied'..kehta hai that's not his genre. Chalo gud for me''I want to remain the king of textiles. Waise aaj usse baat karte karte kisiki yaad aa gayi."
Now Ashna flips the next page and again she sees things written abt Adil.
"Arre Papa Adil se milne ke baad se usike bare me likh rahe the. Where did I go?? Ab aisa bhi kya dekha aapne usme Papa? Baat to wo dhang se karta nahi and jab dekho kuch na kuch sochta rehta hai. Phir bhi aap usse itna impressed ho gaye?? Ye kaunsi manipulative trick thi Adil? Papa to super-impressed lag rahe hai. (she smirks but the next moment she gets serious) Lekin Papa kabhi ghalat bhi to nahi hote the. Kya tumne sach me Papa ko itni asaani se dhoka de diya'..jaisa ki tum kehte ho? I don't think so Adil''.tum ghalath ho ya sahi wo bhale hi main nahi janti'..lekin itna zarur janti hu ki abhi bhi bahut kuch hai jo mera janna baki hai."
And she is abt to readthe diary again when her phn rings. It was Adil so she picks it up.
Adil: Abhi kaha ho tum?
Ashna: Ghar pe'..matlab apne wale ghar pe!!
Adil: Still now??
Ashna: Kyun? Tumhe koi problem hai? Mera kaam abhi khatam nahi hua!! (she lied as she thought he might ask her to cum to office)
Adil: Apna kaam kal kar lena'.abhi ghar jao'.mere wale ghar pe!!
Ashna: Wats the hurry?
Adil: Jitna kaha utna karo'..Rashi ko thodi help chahiye shayad kisi cheez ko lekar. Main abhi thoda occupied hu so u go there!! Be as fast as u can, got it? (and he hangs up)
"Huh!! U r mean and authoritative as well. Ghar jaa ke ye traits bhi jor dungi uss list me. Ab pata chala why they say- Think of the devil and the devil is here. Becoz jab bhi tumhare bare me socha jaye u appear in the scene and u r no less than a devil. You Devil Raichand!!"
