Part 20:

Maan is sitting in his room and thinking of all that happened . He remembers how he had promised Geet he would always support her, let her study and make a life of her own. But he wanted to protect her and take care of her. She could study even after she got married didn't she? And how would she handle a child all by herself. How would she face the world all by herself… she didn't realize .. he didn't mean to suffocate her or pressurize her … he meant to encourage her.. what if her brother or any of her family members came back to stake her claim? How often would he be able to fight it … He didn't want all of that… that's why he wanted her to get married to him so that he would feel secure… and she would feel a little more confident.. right now he didn't know how to explain the same to her… perhaps everything was happening too soon and she wasn't in a position to handle so much at the same time…

In the meanwhile even Geet has been thinking… She is shocked that Maan had gotten Dev released from the jail. After all the beating and the punishment that he had promised Geet, is this all? He had given into family pressure? But how could she expect him to do this with his own brother? She for one hadn't forgiven her brother but she knew, the feeling of anger had subsided. May be she should talk to him….

She tries Maan's number … but his phone is still with her … she decides she would give it to him on her own… She walks towards the hall and she realizes … Maan is already standing there… Both of them smile looking at one another…each of them speaking to one another at the same time…

Maan/Geet: actually main …

Finally maan says … " please Geet … aaj ke din… mujhe pehle bolne do… please …

Geet: ji sir….

Maan: dekho Geet main nahi chahta kit um socho ke main tumhe kisi dabau ma daalke shaadi kar raha hoon…balki main chahta hoon… ke tumhe kabhi bhi koi problem naa aaye… tum jaanti ho na main tumse kitna pyar karta hoon?

Geet: sir …! Aise nahi hai ke main aapse shaadi nahi karna chahti par…!

Maan: tum abhi choti ho.. aur main nahi chahta ke tum ye bojh akele hi uthao… aur main waada karta hoon… shaadi bahut simple tareekhey se hogi.. aur uske baad tumhe zindagi main jo karna hai na… tum wo karo..aur tab agar tumne ye sab nahi kit oh main tumhe daantoonga….

Geet smiles … though she has tears in her eyes and she hugs Maan.. He finally feels relieved and relaxed….

Geet: sir .. aap mujhse ye sab kehne aaye they ….

Maan: nahi main apna phone lene aaya tha… ( teasing her)

Geet makes a face ….

Geet: haan .. aapke liye phone aaya tha… aapka bhai ( she doesn't take his name) jail se choot gaya hai… aur usne aapko thank you kehne ke liye kal kiya tha …

Maan shuts his eyes …. He didn't want Geet to know anything about Dev … he didn't even want him to know anything about him… but now .. she had gotten to know something .. and had misunderstood him….

Maan: Geet .. actually jaisa tum samajh rahi ho ( he stats to explain)

Geet: main samajhti hoon sir … wo aapka chota bhai hai… aur do bhaiyon ko door karne waali main koun hoti hoon…. Aur aap mujhse pyar karte hai.. aur mere saath ho … issey zyada mujhe aur kya chahiyee…

Maan: uff… tum kabhi bhi mujhe bolne ka mauka deti ho… motor mouth…

Geet doesn't say anything …

Maan: haan yeh, sach hai ke maine Dev ko chudwaaya hai… aur yeh bhi sach hai … key eh baat maine tumse chupayi … lekin agar iske peeche koi kaaran tha … toh bas itna … ke main tumhe pareshaan nahi karna chahta tha ….

Geet: main pareshaan nahi hoon ( trying to sound as normal as possible fidgeting with her dupatta …)

Maan makes Geet's hand away from the dupatta into his hands looks at her …. and says…

Maan: tumhe kya lagta hai .. main tumhe nahi jaanta… main tumhe nahi samajhta? Main tumhe pyar yoohi karta hoon?

Geet: (looks down)

Maan: Geet …! Tum jitna samajhti ho na … main tumse ussey jkai zyada pyar karta hoon… aur main nahi chahta ke koi bhi problem tumhe chue….

They are all talking about this … when they are called by dadi… to come immediately…

Everyone is in the hall… Maan, Geet, NT, dadi, and even Dev … Dev doesn't have to guts to look at Geet …

He comes forward to hug Maan but Maan pushes him away… Dev can sense whats wrong ….

Maan: kya hua dadi maa … aapne hum sabko itni raat gaye yahan kyun bulaya hai ( still not looking at Dev)

Dadi: in Visa forms ka kya matlab Maan?

NT: vadde veerji hume fir se door bhejna chahte hai….

Dev looks down … he has no words ….

Maan: bilkul sahi suna …. Dev aur NT waapis Canada jayenge… wahan ke office main koi problem ho gayi hai.. aur wahan ka kaam sambhalneke liye koi toh hona chahiye …

Dev: jaise aap theek samjhe bro ( knowing why his brother is doing this)

It strikes also at that moment what Maan had actually planned… she knew if he was here he would come back home sooner or later … but now he had planned to get them sent away for good…

NT: bahut ho gaya …Dev! Kya aap jaante hai .. aap kya keh rahe hai… iss haal main hum .. wahan jayen?

Dadi: haan beta … Maan… Dev kahin nahi jayenge…. Samjhe aap…

Maan: dadima maine faisla kar lia hai…

Dadi: Maan… aap beeti baatien dauranpe kyun tule hue hai?

Maan: taaki … beetien baatien ateet main hi rahe dadi ma….

Dadi: matlab ???

Dev: dadi.. bro sahi keh rahe hai.. yahan reh kar maine layak ka kaam kuch nahi kia hai.. agar kuch kia hai .. to logon aur riston ko bigaad na …

Dadi: par beta…

Dev: please dadi.. aap chahti hai na ? ke main apne balboote pe kuch banoon? Apne aap ko sabit karoon? Toh yehi mauka hai…

Dadi: lekin aap who yahan reh kar bhi kar sakte hai bete.. aur fir.. Nainatara ka iss haal main travel karna theek nahi hai…

Dev: kyun dadi kya hua Naintara ko…

Dadi: beta .. aap papa banne waaley ho…

Unlike what is expected … Dev doesn't react the way they had all guessed… He smiles … He is taken in by guilt.. he was very very happy but how could he share this joy with all when another woman in the room was also carrying his child …!

Dev walks away from there…..

Dadi: inhey kya hua?

Maan: shock dadi… apne kartoot pe …

Dadi: aap bhi na maan….!!

NT gives them a dirty look and she walks away also …. Geet looks at Maan gratefully .. But Maan walks away… Geet follows him ….

Geet: Maan sir … please … he continues to walk…

She tries to run but trips and he holds her .. eye lock happens …. (mahi plays) .. then he straightens her and says … "ab toh uchalna khoodna band karo Geet … bacche ka khayal rakho …."

Geet looks at him totally lost in his eyes … she cant get this man.. one moment he acts like this stubborn child, the very next he becomes an over protective caring man, who she knew she could a child with… She simply hugs him softly…with her eyes closed .. At first he resists it.. but he hugs her too and starts smiling….

Geet is woken up early next morning and told by Maan that they are all going for a picnic.. He tells her, that dadi is insisting they come, but she need not if she doesn't feel like …

Geet: nahi sir .. aisi koi problem nahi hai… meri tabiyat theek hai…

Maan: meri matlab ussey nahi tha .. wo … ghar pe sab picnic ke liye jaa rahe hai .. to…

Dadi also walks into the outhouse and is like…

Dadi: yeh kya geet ..Maan ne aapko nahi bataya .. chaliye chaliye … ek hafte main Dev aur NT yahan se nikal jayenge … aur .. pata nahi fir kab hume waqt milega saath bitane ka…

Geet: dadi .. main abhi tayar hokey aati hoon…

On their way Maan is very protective about Geet.. He insists they have some "kaam" and they will come in their own car …

NT is pretty annoyed … " inhey dekhiye … aise behave kar rahey hai … jaise unke khud ka baccha ho… par agar aisa kuch ho jaye .. jissey ya toh ye baccha ... ( she smiles wickedly) aaj ki picnic tum kabhi nahi bhoologi Geet …

They go to their family farmhouse that is a little far away from the city. Its calm and serene. There are streams flowing everywhere…

Geet: Maan sir … maine jitna socha tha … aapke paas toh ussey bhi zyada paise hai… itne paison ke saath aap karte kya hai?

Maan: Geet …! In paison ka kya karta hoon matlab?

Geet: jaise picturon main dikhate hai na… jaise sharukh khan aise aise paison ke beech naachta hai… ya .. paison ki bearish hoti hai.. aapne kabhi aisa kuch try kia hai? Kyunki jitna paisa aapke paas hai… aapko toh paison ki ehmiyat kahan maloom hogi? Haina?

Maan: Geet! Maan Singh Khurana ke paas bahut saara paisa hai .. aur wo har paise ki ehmiyat bhi jaanta hai …

Geet: yeh dekhiye paison ka ghamand sar chadh kar bol raha hai…

Maan: ab maine kya bola?

Geet: aur nahi toh kya ! aap humesha aise kyun baat karte hai jaise Maan Singh Khurana iss ghar main baitha hua teesra anjaan aadmi ho! Aap main nahi keh sakte?

Maan: Geet!

Geet giggles looking at Maan boil with rage at this…

Geet: Geet ( she repeats in the same tone) … accha.. abhi Geet Handa ko neend aa rahi hai.. Maan Singh Khurana ko bata do… ke Maan Singh Khurana Geet Handa ko disturb na kare .. aur jab Geet handa ki neend khul jayegi .. wo tab Maan Singh Khurana se baat karegi… !

She turns to doze off as maan looks at her smiling…

Geet: kya hua sir?

Maan: aaj pehli baar tumne mera poora naam itni baar liye.. and thank god saath main sir shabd nahi joda ….

Geet blushes …. And shuts her eyes pretending to fall asleep..…. Maan sits there admiring her …she opens one eye to check where he is… he is still there….she shuts her eyes again… and then after five seconds … opens one again….

Maan: agar neend nahi aa rahi hai toh soni ki itni koshish kyun kar rahi ho?

Geet: nahi! Mujhe neend aa rahi hai…

She turns onto the other side of the sofa and shuts her eyes again…. She falls asleep in a while, Maan adjusts the pillow for her …

Else where … NT has something up on her mind… she comes out of the bathroom and smiles wickedly …

NT: Geet agar tum hume yahan se bhejna chahti ho na! hum chalet oh jayenge .. par main dekhti hoon.. tum yahan kaise khush rahogi….

She has set such a trap that, the moment Geet enters the bathroom… the mug with soap water on top falls on the floor, she slips and she falls down….

Maan decides he will finish some official work before Geet wakes up.. he is working in the other room.. Geet slowly wakes up looking around … opening her eyes slightly… but she sits up in a fright… Dev is sitting in front of her…

Geet tries to fetche her dupatta which is on the table in front of her. Dev passes tries to place his hands on it to help her, but Maan reaches there before him and pulls it out and protectively covers it around Geet.

Maan: tum yahan kya kar rahey do Dev!

Dev: Bro main wo…

Maan: Chalo Geet …!!

Dev: bro! Geet .. main aap dono se kuch kehna chahta hoon…

Both of them look least interested….

Dev: main jaanta hoon.. ke mujhe yeh bolne ka koi haq nahi hai… par .. I am really sorry geet! I guess I never deserved someone like you… tum bahut acchi ho.. aur issi liye .. tumhe bro jaise insaan miley…

Maan: stop getting melodramatic Dev!

Dev: nahi bro! I mean it… and seriously … aisa nahi hai, ke maine apne galti ke liye pachtaaya nahi hai… par ab jo aapne mere liye faisla liya hai… that's my repentance …aur main usey sweekar karta hoon… lekin Geet .. please mujhe maaf kardo… jab tak tum mujhe maaf nahi karogi… I will feel guilty forever… aur issi liye … main apne hissey ki khush mehsoos bhi nahi kar pa raha hoon… bro main papa banne waala hoon.. lekin.. Geet ke saath kia hui galti mujhe itna guilty kar rahi hai … ke main… I cant feel a thing…

Geet: I am sorry Dev! Lekin main shayad tumhe kabhi bhi maaf nahi karoongi …

Dev feels so bad, he walks away from there and he is about to get into the loo.. NT see's him walking towards the bathroom and runs towards him to stop him… but no sooner does she reach the door… she trips and ends up pushing the door and the water falls all around her and she falls flat on her tummy and she yelps in pain.

Precap: what happens next! I am not giving this one away… keep ur guesses coming in!!
