Part 13:
As he recovers from the slap, Geet mother is about to slam the door on his face and Dev stops her.
Dev: please aunty ji.. zara mujhko aap bolne ka mauka toh do ..
Just then Mohinder comes from behind and asks her who it is. She is silent. She has no words.
In the next scene the entire family is standing with Dev in the middle. It is exactly the way it was earlier when Geet was in the middle and her entire family had questioned her. But the only difference now is that her family members have mellowed down and you cant help but feel bad for them. Darji's shoulders have shrunk and the rest of the family members have questions on their face. All of them share a common sentiment however. Of hatred towards Dev that they do not want to look at him!
Dev tries to get a reaction out of them and gets done. Finally he decides to talk by himself.
Dev: main jaanta hoon.. maine jo kia … aap logon ke saath.. wo bahut galat tha…
No reaction…
Dev: aur… humari problems ko solve karne ke liye… humne aap logon ka faida uthaya…
No reaction…
Dev: dekhiye… main bahut sharminda hoon… ho sake toh aap log mujhe maaf kar do….
Geet's father finally comes and holds his collar… " mujhe toh tum logo pe pehle se hi shak tha… lekin kya karoon beti ka baap hoon na.. beti ke khushi ke khatir… uske acche bhavishya ki ummeed se….humne usey tumhe sopa tha.. aur tu ke kya kiya…."
Mother: meri phool si bachi… iss nadan umar main… na jaane kya kya jhel rahi hai…
Geet's aunt: tum yahan se chale jao..itna sab kuch karke.. tumhe kya laga …tum ek baar aake maafi maangoge .. aur tumhe maaf kar denge..
Rajji: (for the first time) zaroor inhe fir se humse koi kaam hoga.. issi liye waapis aaye hai….
Geet's father: dekho… iss ghar ki haalat dekho… hum sabko dekho.. tumhe lagta hai.. tum hume aur loot paoge…
Dev: uncle ji, main samjah sakta hoon.. aap ye sab kyun bol rahe hai…uncle sach maniye …main majboor tha….
Geet's mother: tumhe toh paise chahiye tha na… wo zameen wo darji ne Geet ke liye rakha tha… toh jab tumhe zameen mil gayi to fir… meri beti ki zindagi barbaad kyun kar di…
Dev looks guilty as he cant meet their eyes… he looks around… slowly…
Dev: main jaanta hoon, jo maine kiya … uski maafi mujhe nahi mil sakti …lekin… fir bhi… main yahan aaya hoon ek koshish karne… uss din se, main bhi kabhi chain se nahi jee paya hoon…
Geet's aunt: aur na hume chain se jeene dia.. tune humse humari beti cheen li….
Dev: Geet? Kahan hai wo? Kya main ussey ek baar mil sakta hoon please…
"Khabardaar …" a voice speaks for the first time… its darji… "jo meri poti ka naam apne gande zubaan se liya toh…"
Geet's father: meri bacchi… pyari si bacchi… meri geet… jo phool jaisi komal aur nadaan thi…
Geet's aunt: chale jao iss ghar se… hum tumhe maaf nahi denge… jo guna tumne kiya hai… uski maafi tumhe kabhi nahi milegi…
Dev hangs his head down in shame…nikal jao iss ghar se…!
Dev feels even more guiltier as he comes out.. as the purpose for which he had come has totally gone for a toss.
In the meanwhile … back in Delhi…
While Maan is sitting with Geet, he has brought the model of his latest project and he is discussing it with her…. As he talks to her about it…. she wanders off into thoughts of how had so easily and casually spoken about forgiving his brother for the sin he committed. She tries to give it a shot.
Maan: Geet tum sun rahi ho?
Geet doesn't respond…
Maan places his shoulder on her and calls her .. "Geet"
Geet: haan!
Maan: tumne suna main tumhe ab tak kya bol aur dikha raha tha….
Geet: haan!
Maan: abhi abhi… issey pehle maine tumse kya kaha?
Geet: haan!
Maan: haan kya Geet…! Tum sun nahi rahi thi? Aise tum kaise seekhogi…
Geet: haan! ( still thinking)
Maan: geet!
This is when she snaps out… totally blank…
Maan: kya hua? Koi problem ho gayi hai kya? Tum kya soch rahi ho…
Geet: …. Wo … maine soch rahi thi.. ke….
Maan: kya soch rahi thi….
Geet: kal.. agar… aapko wo insaan mil jaaye, jisne mere saath ye sab ( she puts her hand on her tummy) kia.. to aap kya karenge…
Maan: maar daaloonga usey main!
Geet: aur agar aapko apne zindagi main do rishto ke beech main se kisi ek ko sahi ya galat main se chunna ho… to kya aap kisi ek ki side lenge…
Maan: Maan Singh khurana humesha sacchayi ka saath deta hai…
Geet: aur agar aapke kisi apne ne koi galti ki ho.. to kya aap usey maaf dar denge?
Maan: agar unme pachtaava ho.. to kyun nahi? Lekin main usey saza zaroor doonga …taaki wo apni wo galti fir kabhi na kar dauraye… aur ye tum kaisi behki behki baatien kar rahi ho… jo bolna hai saaf saaf kaho na…
Geet: nahi sar .. main bas aapko samajhneki koshish kar rahi thi…
Maan: Geet! Main koi experiment karne ki cheez hoon…. Jo tum mujhe sample banake padh rahi ho?
Geet vaguely smiles.
Back in Hoshiarpur….
Dev is having his lunch at a dhaba and Channi's mother comes out of no where…
Lady: tum wahi ho na… wahi ladka …jisne Geet se shaadi ki aur… usey dhoka dia…
Dev is embarrassed… as everyone looks up .. Dev feels odd…
Dev: excuse me…kya main aapko jaanta hoon?
Lady: maine tum dono ko dekha tha… uss din… gaadi ke paas…..
Everyone surrounds them now… Dev doesn't know what to do…
Villager: bechari geet … theek nahi kiya isne (need Punjabi translation here)
Villager two: haan.. bacchi se shaadi ki.. maa banaya aur fir bhaag gaya…
Channi's mom: aise ladke ko chodna nahi chahiye… maaro issey… pehle meri channi.. aur ab Geet …
it hits Dev like a thunderbolt… He is absolutely shocked as he comes to know for the first time that Geet is pregnant….
Dev: Geet! Pregnant thi? Mujhe nahi pa…( before he can say this… everyone is ready to beat him up and Dev tries to run away from there… but there is no escape… he is totally cornered…)
He gets badly beaten up with people leaving him in a bad state… they say… "issey agar maar daalenge toh .. isey dard mehsoos nahi hoga.. isey aise hi chod dete hai…"
They throw him on the other end of the town and go away…
With whatever little strength he has … Dev picks his mobile… and dials a number…
Back in Bombay, where Maan just finishes giving Geet her tablets … takes a minute as his phone rings… Maan excuses himself.. and picks the call…
Dev: bro! Ma-i-n DDeevv bbool r-a-h-a h-o-o-n … please mujhe bacha lo bro.. please bacha lo…
Maan: Dev! Tum kahan ho? Aur kya hua?
Dev: bro main Hoshiarpur main hoon…aur meri jaan khatre main hai…
Maan: Hoshiarpur? Wahan kya kar rahe ho?
Dev: bro.. bahut dard ho raha hai… please aap mujhe bacha lo… please…
Maan: main abhi aa raha hoon…
Geet listens to all this and is shocked.. she is like… " Dev is in Hoshiarpur? What was he upto? Why did he go there…
Maan: Geet! Mujhe abhi nikal na hoga… main aata hoon
Geet: Hoshiarpur jaa rahe haina aap….
Maan looks at Geet with helplessness … and nods .. as he doesn't want to talk about the place or her past….
Maan: mera bhai wahan hai aur … lagta hai …. wo koi problem main hai…. Main milta hoon…
Maan hugs Geet and asks her to take care till the evening as he wil be back soon…
Geet: main bhi chaloongi aapke saath sir…
Maan: nahi Geet… fir kabhi jayenge…
Geet: nahi sir … mujhe abhi aapke saath aana hai… please mana mat kee jiye…
Maan is undecided …he is in two minds whether he should take her or no… but the door bell rings…. a restless Gurvinder comes there …
Gur: Geet mujhe tumse Baat karni hai… (looking at Maan he stops as though waitinfg for him to leave ) …….
Maan: main abhi gaadi nikaal ke aata hoon… tum aa rahi ho na?
Geet nods….
As soon as Maan leaves …Gurvinder says…
Gur: abhi abhi rajji ka phone tha… keh rahi thi… Dev…
Geet: Hoshiarpur main hai….!!
Gur: tumhe kaise pata ?
Geet: abhi abhi usne Maan sir ko call kia tha… Maan sir usey hi lene jaa rahey hai…
Gur: wo tumhe dhoondne aaya tha Geet… mujhe lagta hai… wo waqt aa gaya hai ..jab tum apne saath hue zyatti ka hisaab lelo…
Geet: main abhi Maan sir ke saath nikalne hi waali thi…
Gur: nahi Geet tum mat jao.. fir se wahan jaogi… to…
Geet: nahi Gurvinder… mujhe apne haalat ka saamna karna hai… mujhe jaana hi hoga… bahut din waste ho gaye hai…
Gur: toh main bhi tumhare saath chaloonga…
Geet: nahi … tum yahin ruko.. mujhe Dev se kuch aise sawaalon ke jawaab lene hai.. jo main akele hi karna chahti hoon.. aur fir.. dekhe to sahi.. Maan sir ko bhi toh pata chaley… ke unka chota bhai hai kaisa….
Gur: Par Geet…
Geet: Maan sir hai meri raksha ke liye Gurvinder… chinta mat karo…
She hears the honking of the car …as Maan is waiting for her… "Geet waves out to Gurvinder and gets into the car"
Maan: iss haal main tum travel kar paogi? Soch lo!
Geet: Mujhe aana hai! ( with a determined face)..
As she gets into the car and drive for a while silently… Maan wonders why she is not her usual self or talking anymore… he finally says…
Maan: …"yeh baar baar tumhare ghar kyun aa jaata hai.. mujhe yeh baat achi nahi lagti…"
Geet: (very serious as she has only one thing on her mind at the moment) wo meri choti behen ka pati hai sir.. mere parivaar ka hissa… (she goes quiet after that)
Maan is also silent…
For the rest of the time during the journey, she doesn't talk… Dev calls once or twice more to check where Maan is and Maan updates him… with each mile they cross Geet is mentally more satisfied about the fact that she is finally going to face the reality of her life…
Finally Maan says…
Maan: Geet.. tum itni chup chaap se kyun ho? Koi problem ho gayi hai kya?
Geet: hum hoshiarpur kitni der main pauchenge sir?
Maan is surprised as he is not used to Geet behaving this way with him… he says…
Maan: maine kuch galat kiya hai kya?
Geet: nahi sir…
Maan suddenly stops the car with a jerk and turns towards her and looks at her and says… " toh fir… tum itni badli badli si kyun ho Geet?"
Geet: in do dino main mere aas paas bahut kuch badal gaya hai sir…
Maan: wahi to main poochne ki koshish kar raha hoon Geet… kya hua hai! Mujhe nahi bataogi ? ( a little more sweetly and pleadingly… as he turns her towards him and holds her by her shoulders.. he tips her chin and makes her look into his eyes… )
Geet: main aapko abhi nahi bata sakti…
Maan: kya matlab abhi nahi bata sakti… maine tumse much keh ya kar dia kya geet? ( he tries to come close to her and give her comforting hug as she awkwardly pushes him away and says ….)
Geet: sir … har cheez aapse related nahi hoti… ab hum … bhagwaan ke liye please… Hoshiarpur chale?
Maan: ( a little irked as well as hurt) mujhse zyada tumhe jaldi ho rahi hai wahan pahunch neki… mujhe chodke jaana chahti ho?
Geet feels really bad as she has been a little harsh with him and she cools down and says…
Geet: Sir please…! Agar aap mujhe sach much pyar karte hai.. to aap please mujhse aur koi sawaal mat kee jiye.. Hoshiarpur chalte hi.. aap ko sab khud ba khud samajh main aa jayega…
Maan: alright! Agar tumhe nahi batana hai to mat batao… lekin.. yeh jo tum mere saath kar rahi ho na Geet … its totally unfair ….!!
Geet: (bends her head down… and says nothing )
Maan turns away… starts the vehicle and drives off in great speed… Geet understands his state of mind but she is helpless…
Geet: ( in her mind with her head resting to the seat) I am very sorry maan sir, lekin iss waqt mere liye agar kuch important hai.. to wo hai… Dev se milna… aur wahan …shayad.. jab aapko sachayi ka pata lage… toh shayad humare beech ke haalaat bhi badal sakte hai… issi liye abhi ke liye ye doori zaroori hai hum dono ke beech…
For the rest of the journey they are quiet and neither of them look at each other… Finally they see a board that says … "welcome to the municipality of Hoshiarpur…"
A sense of Nostalgia passes through Geet as they enter the town she had vowed never to enter at one point in time…
As she crosses each point she remembers herself… buying candy with her father as a kid.. going to school.. running through the fields.. Meeting Dev for the first time.. him asking her to marry him at the bridge.. then her getting lost in the mela and Maan saving her… her marriage with Dev… him deserting her.. her brother trying to chase her and kill her and finally Maan saving her…
Geet: ( in her mind with tears swimming in them) Maan sir, har baar apne mujhe har musibat se bachaya… kya aap iss bar bhi apne bhai ke khilaaf jaake mujhe bachayenge? Kya aap iss baar bhi humesha ki tarah sach ka saath denge…
A tear falls out of her eye and Maan holds it.. He looks at her.. slowly wipes her tears and tells her…
Maan: Geet ! hum chahe jitna bhi jagde… main tumhare aankhon main ye aansoon bardhast nahi kar sakta… agar tumhe apna problem share nahi karna hai toh mat karo.. par please mujhse waada karo kit um nahi raogi….
Geet hugs Maan and starts crying… he consoles her as if she were a baby…
Geet: main aapse bahut pyar karti hoon.. par pata nahi kyun mujhe bahut darr lag raha hai..
Maan:kaisa darr Geet..
Geet: door jaane ka darr…
Maan: arey… main tumhe itni aasani se jaane thodi doonga main…
Geet: chahe jo bhi ho?
Maan: agar meri jaan chali jaye tabhi…
Geet stops him saying this .. and says… " sir.. maine apne aas paas bahut kuch khoya hai… please aap aise baatein mat kee jiye…"
Maan: sorry baba ! nahi karoonga…
He slowly starts the car and this time as he puts his hand the gear to change it.. she holds his hand.. he looks at her and smiles assuringly and drives on.. After a while, Maan slowly slips his hand out from the gear and takes his mobile and dials it…
Maan: Haan Dev… tum kahan ho? Accha.. main bas paanch minute ki doori pe hoon… tum ghabrao mat.. tumhe first aid mila? Accha ... theek hai.. theek hai… aa raha hoon…
Geet once again goes silent…. as her heart now starts to beat super fast. The moment had almost come….
Finally the car stops … they have reached the road running through middle of the forest…..almost at the same place where Maan and Geet had parted ways the last time when she had decided against complaining to the police…
At a distance they see a man lying down.. On looking at Maan, he slowly gets up and starts walking towards the car…
Maan also gets down … and as Geet is also about to Maan says…
Maan: car main baithi raho… yeh jagah tumhare khatre se khaali nahi…agar tumhare bhai ki kisi dost ne tumhe dekh liye toh problem ho jayegi…
Geet doesn't say anything… As Maan walks a few steps ahead … Dev looks at his brother and smiles relieved. But the very next minute he see's someone else get off the car and to his shock it is Geet-at that moment, god knows what runs through his head, but Dev overlooks Maan…crosses him and goes limping, rushing towards Geet! And hugs her… and says…
Dev: Geet! Thank god ! tum mujhe mil gayi!
Maan stares at the two in shock and horror.
Precap: How will Maan react to the fact that Dev and Geet already knew one another from before, whats worse Dev had hugged Geet! Will Maan come to know Dev was the guy responsible for Geet's haalat?
