Part 33:

Sorry about the delay guys... i have been terribly busy, and though i keep thinking i will write i just dont find the time, today i did so i wrote this short update, and i realised i am so not up to the mark anymore .. will take a while longer to get back into the groove! hope i dont disappoint ...

As they drive back Geet is exceptionally quiet. Maan attempts to begin a conversation with her but gauging her stern expression, decides against it. So much had happened that night. Maan silently tries to also recollect what had happened a while ago, how Sameera had just said she would return from the wash room but never had. She had left a note for Geet telling her that she was going away for good and she didn't want anyone finding her.

Maan: Ice cream khaogi Geet?

No response…

Maan drives on….

A little ahead….

Maan: wo dekho chand… kitna khoobsoorat hai …..

Geet turns to look at the moon, smiles at Maan breezily and once again goes quiet … He can sense her eyes are moist and he feels helpless..he stops the car, gets down, walks towards Geets side of the car, opens the door and asks her to get down…

Geet gestures him as though asking why he is doing this…

Maan: mere saath chalo …

Geet: mujhe is waqt kahin bhi jaane ka mann nahi hai Maan sir, chalo ghar chalte hai ..

Maan: bass 10 minute ka kaam hai geet, main nahi chahta ke tum yahan gadi main akeli baithi raho.. chalo …utaro warna…

Knowing Maan, she knows arguing further would only mean being air lifted by him, and she doesn't want that so she gets off.

She realises they are standing outside a garden. Maan quickly covers Geet with his jacket since he knows she might catch a cold. He slips his hands into her and walks her to a near by bench and makes her sit down.

Maan: Ab batau kya chal raha hai tumhare mann main …

Geet looks up, and a tear drop trickles down her eye, only for Maan to hold it.. He hugs her comforting her and starts to talk…

Maan: Geet agar Sameera jaana chahti thi, toh wo uski marzi thi, hum usey force toh nahi kar sakte they na…

Geet: aur agar kal mere saath aisa kuch hua, aur main bhi yoo chali jaun toh aap mujhe bhi jaane denge…

There is a sting of pain in maans eyes as he looks back at her with disbelief, he can't believe she had just said that … He is silent, he doesn't say anything…

Geet: bolo na Maan sir…

Maan: agar tum yeh jaanna chahti ho ke tumhari mere zindagi main kya ehmiyat hai, toh uske liye yeh jagah aur samai sahi nahi hai Geet …

Geet: Aapne usey jaane kyun diya…

Maan: Geet, yeh baat tum bhi jaanti ho ke Sameera khud apne marzi se gayi hai, aur aisa nahi hai ke iss baat ka mujhpe koi asar nahi hua hai …

Geet: Jis Maan sir ko main jaanti hoon, wo apne rishto ko itni aasaani se chootne nahi dete ..

Maan: (annoyed a little) Ghar chaley Geet?

Geet stands up and walks ahead of maan without saying a word as he follows. As they drive on, neither of them talk again, this time, more cos they know talking would aggravate things further.

Geet gets off at the car and walks into the outhouse. Maan waits outside, see's the outhouse lights going on once, and then, a silhouette walking across the door, and then, the lights going off. He knows she would now retire to bed, he returns to his own room.

As Maan enters the house, dadi asks him where they had been and where Sameera is, and Maan tells her what happened, and how Geet had been shaken by the whole thing.

Dadi: aap ghabrayiye mat beta, kal subah Geet se hum baat karenge….

Maan reaches his room, contemplates on calling or messaging Geet, decides against it and decides to sleep off…

The next morning, maan decides to make breakfast for Geet at the outhouse like he usually does… He asks Nakul to help him with the stuff…

A little while later, Nakul comes back to Maan to let him know the outhouse door is latched, which means there is no one inside.

Maan: tala laga hua hai? Geet subah subah kahan chali gayi?

When he reaches the outhouse he is in store for a big shock as the door is locked. His heart sinks but he tries to drive all the negative thoughts away.

Maan: mandir gayi hogi …

He opens the door, and goes in and to his horror notices everything is in the same order that it was before Geet had entered the house for the first time. There is a table where maan can work, there is also his kitchen. Packets of pasta, some vegetables. He runs up to the room, and he finds it empty. All her belongings gone. He can hear her laughter echo in the room. As though she would come out of the bathroom that minute with her towel wet hair, or she would come and surprise him from behind, but none of that happens, and the hunch inside him says, she wont…. though he wished she would..

He walks to the bed where she would fall asleep, remember the times when they fought, made up, their moments together in the outhouse, the room now looks empty! There is no geet ..

He tries calling her phone, and her number is switched off. He tries reaching Pinky but she hasn't gone there as well. He talks to dadi, but that's of no use…

He checks with the watchman only to learn he didn't see her go, and he knows there is no use yelling at him since he had more important things to do.

Maan is confused as to why Geet had gotten so effected by what he had said, and wonders what it was that could have made her do what she just did.

He sets out looking for her….

Maan drives around throughout the day, here and there, everywhere but there is no trace of Geet, he wonders if he should call up Hoshiarpur to check she had headed back home and then he tells himself she would never do something like that ...

Finally tired and exasperated, he decides to return home when his phone rings...

Maan picks up the call and a voice says...

Maan: M main Sameera ...

Maan: Sameera, (totally forgetting Sam had left without a word the earlier night) pata nahi Geet kahan chali gayi hai .. wo mil nahi rahi hai aur...

Sam: Geet mere saath hai M

Maan heaves a sigh of relief...

Maan:tumhare paas hai???

Sam: Haan...

Maan: lekin...accha tum log ho kahan? main Geet se baat kar sakta hoon?

Sam: sure....

Geet walks to the phone, and takes it in her hand...

Geet: hello....

Maan: Geet !! tum theek toh ho na? maine tumhe kahan kahan nahi dhoonda... tum aise kyun chali gayi... ab jaldi se batao .. tum kahan ho .. main tumhe lene aa raha hoon...

Geet: Main nahi aungi maan (sternly)

This was the first time she had called him Maan, and not Maan sir...

Maan's heart sinks... "nahi aaogi ka kya matlab hai..."

Geet: mujhe yahin rehna hai ...main Sameera ki dekh bhaal karoongi ...

Maan: Geet, wo toh hum ghar pe bhi...

The line goes dead... maan tries it again, but the line has been disconnected from the other end.
