Part 81

Three days later Maan comes to his room in the morning from his workout to find Geet lying down in her room crying in pain. He rushes to her and takes her head in his lap immediately. He says, 'Maan, abhi abhi bohot dard shuru hua hai.' She holds her stomach and screams. Maan yells out to Aditi and Dadima to come to him. He looks very worried and says, 'Dadima, dekhiye na. Geet ko bohot dard ho raha hai. Kya karna chahiye?' Aditi and Dadima check her temperature and see her state. Dadima says, 'Beta, humhe abhi hospital jaana chahiye. Geet ki delivery kabhi bhi ho sakti hai.' Geet and Maan both look shocked. Maan says, 'Lekin dadima Geet ki due date toh teen hafte door hai.' Dadima keeps her hand on his shoulder and says, 'Ghabrane ki baat nahi hai, bte. Pehle bacche mein aisa hota hai. Aap bas jaldi hospital chaliye.'

They reach the hospital and admit Geet immediately. Maan is on Geet's side giving her cold compress to make her feel better. She has held on to his hand and winces in pain with each contraction. Her breathing becomes more difficult as the frequency of the contractions increase. Maan says, 'Geet, thodi der aur. Sab theek ho jayega. Main houn na tumhare saath.' Geet gives a small smile with a lot of difficulty and nods her head slowly. A few hours later the doctor comes in and says that Geet is ready to be taken to the labour room. They take her in and Maan goes in with her. After around an hour, the doctor smiles as the baby comes out. The doctor places the baby in Maan's arms and he smiles looking at the baby and then Geet saying, 'Megha.' Geet smiles and her expression changes as she has a shooting pain in her abdomen. The color drains from Maan's face as she starts breathing heavily and they put an oxygen mask on her face. Maan holds her hand and says, 'Stay with me, Geet. Yeh kya hai?' In the next few minutes, Geet loses conciousness and lets go of his hand.

Maan is holding on to dadima and silent tears roll down his cheek. The doctor tells Maan, 'Mr. Khurana, Geet post natal coma mein chali gayi hai. Normally, jab ladkiyan choti umar mein maa banti hai ya agar pregnancy bohot stressful rahi ho toh bacche ke hone ke baad auratein chaubees (24) ghante ke coma mein chale jati hai.' Maan stares at her wordlessly not being able to say anything. Dadima says, 'Doctor, aap keh rahi hai ke Geet agle kuch ghanton mein uth jayegi.' The doctor looks down and replies, 'Umeed toh yahi hai Savitri Deviji. Kabhi kabhi zyada samay bhi lag sakta hai. Hum Geet ko constanly monitor karege. Aap please himmat rakhiye.' Maan lets go off Dadima and does not listen to her when she calls out to him. He enters Geet's room and walks towards her thinking of the last few months that they spent together since the court case was finalized. Their fights, the love making, the stolen glances, her mischievious side and her touch.

He comes and sits on her bedside. He takes her hand and interlaces his fingers with hers and takes out their engagement ring from his pocket and places it on her finger. He kisses her hand and then places the mangalsutra in her neck. He keeps staring at her as each and every memory of her hits him one after the other. The day he saved her from Brij, the day they got married, the day she left him and went away, their time in London and Darjeeling together and the swim they had together 3 days ago. He just looks at her the entire evening and night and does not come out to eat or drink. Dadima, Aditi and Viren try to talk to him but he does not answer. He breaks out from looking at her when the sun rises and the rays hit him on his face.

Maan kneels next to her bed and says, 'Geet, utho Geet. Subha hone aayi. Tumhara sabse favourite waqt din ka. Tumne kaha tha na ke ubharte hue suraj ko dekhkar tumhara din accha jaata hai. Toh utho na, Geet.' She does not stir. His face drops but he continues, 'Tum meri har baat sun rahi ho, Geet. Itni mushkilon baad tumhe paya hai, tum mujhe chod kar nahi ja sakti. Abhi toh zindagi shuru hui hai, Geet. Hum dono ko bohot cheezein karni hai saath mein. Dekho Geet, utho. Abhi utho. Doctors kuch bhi kahe lekin hamare vaade toh tumhe yaad hai na? Jeena tumse seekha hai Geet. Tum chali gayi toh yeh zindagi koi kaam ki nahi. Main nahi reh sakta tumhare bina Geet. Geet!!'

Maan shakes her hand lightly and she still does not react. He places his head on the side of the bed and just holds her hand. A few minutes later Geet moves her hand. Maan notices this and stands up instantly. Geet slowly opens her eyes and brings him in to focus. A dazzling smile lights up his face and he says, 'Mujhe pata tha, tum kahin nahi jaane wali. Tumhe mujhe bohot satana baaki hai, hai na Geet?' She smiles and says, 'Aapki saansein mujhse judi hai Maan. Aapko chod ke kaise jaati?' He kisses her entire face and she smiles with tears in her eyes. He rushes outside to get the doctor and his family. The doctor checkes her and says, 'Mr. Khurana, Geet ab bilkul theek hai. Aap kal sham inhe le ja sakte hai.' Maan places Megha in Geet's arms and Geet looks at her with eyes full of tears and love. She touches her face, holds her fingers as Maan puts his arms around both of them. She says, 'Maan, kitni pyaari hai na?' He replies, 'Dikhao.' He looks from Megha to Geet and says, 'Ah ah. Tusme pyaari nahi.' Geet glows and hits him playfully. The nurse comes in for Geet to feed the baby and Maan sits by her side.

Everyone comes in to see Geet. Dadima comes in and says, 'Aapne toh humhe dara hi diya beta. Maan ki jaise jaan nikal gayi thi.' Geet looks at him as he looks back with intense love and concern. Dadima blesses Geet and Aditi hugs her tight. She says, 'Thank you, Geet. Mujhe chachi banane ke liye.' Viren congratulates Geet and says, 'No thank you Geet mujhe chabbees (26) saal mein chacha banane ke liye. Image ke saath nahi jaata.' Maan pulls his ear and says, 'Tumhari image main ab theek karta houn. Sab ko ghar le jao. Main Geet ke saath houn.' Everyone leaves and Maan and Geet look at each other. Maan places Megha in her crib and sits on the bed close to Geet. They both look at each other for a long time and then Geet comes forward and kisses Maan. They both break away after a long time. Geet goes to sleep in Maan's arms and he finally falls asleep relieved that Geet is ok. Geet has a slight smile at the corner of her lips and thinks, 'Thank you, Babaji. Ab sab theek hai.'

The next evening Geet and Maan come home and everyone gives them a grand welcome. Maan takes Geet up the stairs once everything is done with Megha in his hand and Geet blindfolded. She says, 'Matlab aap aakhir mujhe hamari beti ka room dikhayege?' Maan says, 'Geet, Maan Singh Khurana kabhi apni baat se palta hai?' Geet smiles and shakes her head saying, 'Kabhi nahi.' He replies, 'Toh phir chalo.' He takes her into the room switches on the light and places Megha in the cot. He tells to get ready and removes her blindfold at the count of three. Geet looks around and is startled. She walks around dumbstruck at the perfection of the room. The wallpaper has a smiling moon and stars on it. The ceiling are covered with glowing stars. There all kind of toys imaginable along with a small table and four chairs. She is about to ask why they have this so early but Maan understands her question before she asks. He says, 'Yeh room agle chaar saal ke liye hai, Geet toh Megha ke liye sab kuch hai.'

She smiles and goes to the cot and sees Megha's name engraved on the side. He comes close to her and she places her arm around his waist. She looks around again and looks at Maan. She says, 'Aapne mera daaman itni khushiyon se bhar diya hai Maan ke iske baad kuch bhi na mangoun toh kaafi hoga.' Maan replies, 'Yeh shuruat hai, Geet. Ab aage bhi aise hi din aayege. Meri zindagi har ek din aur raat tumhare liye aur tumhare saath guzrega. Na koi dukh na koi pareshani.' She smiles through her tears and they both kiss passionately and then just stand with their arms around each other looking at Megha.

Maan thinks, 'Aaj mujhe pehli baar ehsaas hua Geet ke tumhare dil se Dev ki yaad chali gayi hai warna aise mauke par koi aisi baat toh hoti. Main bohot khush houn.' Geet says, 'Maan, mujhe aaj pata chala ke aapke aane se pehle main zindagi ko bita rahi thi lekin aapse milkar main zindagi ke har lamhe ko jee rahi houn. Mera har ehsaas aapse juda hai aur aap par hi khatam hota hai. Jaise Geet ke bina Maan nahi waise hi Maan ke bina Geet nahi.' Maan says, 'Lekin abhi toh Megha aa gayi hai mere hisse ka pyaar lene.' Geet smiles and says, 'Megha ko dekhne se yeh ehsaas hua ke jab koi naya aapki zindagi mein aata hai tab aapka pyaar kisi aur ke liye kam nahi hota. Bas dil aur bada ho jaata hai taaki who dono log aap mein sama jaaye. Maine pehle bhi kaha tha Maan ke mere dil mein jo aapke liye hai woh badal nahi sakta.' He takes her to the moon and says, 'Uss chand ki kasam?' She smiles and says, 'Meri jaan ki kasam.'
