Part 73

Geet has worn a cream colour churidar kurta with intricate silver thread work on it. Maan keeps staring at her and looks away when she sees him. He smiles reading the paper. Geet is ready to go and is following Maan around the room as Viren and Aditi enter. Geet says, 'Maan, hum kaha ja rahe hai?' Maan looks at Aditi and shakes his head. Aditi smiles and says, 'Geet, husband jab surprise de raha hai toh dene do na. Yaha par biwiyan raah dekhti reh jaati hai aur koi kuch karta hi nahi.' She looks at Viren in an annoyed way. Viren looks at Maan and says, 'Kya bhai? Kya bigada hai maine aapka jo subah subah joote parhva rahe ho? Aur Aditi, main tumhe surprises nahi deta?' Aditi innocently says, 'Of course Viren. Roz dete ho.' Viren looks smug and Aditi continues, 'Mere khwaab mein.' They all laugh and Geet says, 'Theek hai baba. Kuch nahi pouchoungi.' Maan and Viren leave the room with the luggage and tell Geet and Aditi to follow.

Maan tells Viren to keep in touch with Jai and update him about the case. He says, 'Mera Blackberry saath hai, Viren toh email karte rehna. Phone karoge toh Geet pareshan hoti rahegi.' Viren says, 'Of course bhai. Lekin main abhi keh raha houn. Mujhe Naintara aur Dev ki taraf se case larhne deejiye. Phir Jai ke haarne ka sawaal hi nahi uthta.' Maan puts his hand on Viren's shoulder and says, 'Viren, jeet hamesha sach ki hoti hai. Hum dono jante ke hum sahi hai. Jai ne khud kaha hai ke case bohot strong hai toh phir main tumhe aisa karne ko kyun kahoun? Tum bas Jai ke saath raho aur gawaah ikatthe karo. Main thode dinon mein wapas aa jaounga.' Viren smiles and says, 'Aap kitna samjhate phir bhi bhatak jaata houn, bhai.' Maan says, 'Iss liye toh main houn tumhe sambhalne ke liye aur hamesha rahounga.' Viren hugs Maan and says, 'You're the best, bhai!' Maan is very happy and winks at him saying, 'I know.'

Geet and Maan are driving towards some place. Geet looks at the road with a sense of familiarity but does not say anything. Maan smiles and says, 'Very good, Geet. Pouchne ke liye utawali ho par pouch nahi rahi. Yeh raasta toh tum janti hi ho, hai na?' Geet replies, 'Hasiye hasiye. Aur hasiye par main nahi pouchoungi.' He laughs and she looks at him laughing. She keeps staring at him when he asks, 'Geet, aise kyun dekh rahi ho?' She smiles and replies, 'Aapki muskurahat badal gayi hai, Maan. Yeh woh wali thi jo ghar main lage hue tasveeron mein thi. Aap wahi Maan wapas ban gaye.' He shakes his head and says, 'Nahi Geet. Main woh Maan nahi houn.' She looks at him questioningly and he says, 'Main uss Maan se bohot behtar houn. Janti ho kyun? Kyunki iss Maan ke saath uski Geet hai. Zindagi tumhare saath jeene laayak lagti hai. Iss se pehle ek din se doosra mujhe alag nahi lagta tha. Subah uthkar wahi din. Kaam ghar, ghar kaam. Lekin ab har subah tumhara naya rang saamne lekar aati hai. Tumse pyaar karke maine zindagi ko gale lagana seekha, dil se muskurana seekha aur choti se choti cheez mein khushi dekhna seekha.' Geet holds his and looks at him endearingly. She says, 'Aur baat karna bhi seekha.' They both laugh.

Geet falls asleep on Maan's shoulder. He stops and then wakes Geet up. She opens her eyes slowly and then sits up properly seeing where they are. They are parked outside the golden temple in Amritsar. She looks at him tearily. He wipes her tears, 'Hamari zindagi ke nayi shuruat hai, Geet aur uss shuruat ke liye iss se behtar jagah ho hi nahi sakti.' Geet smiles and gets out of the car. She is about to take her dupatta on her head when Maan stops her and takes the dupatta and puts in on himself. He takes her hand and they go inside together. She sits at the step of the river as Maan immerses himself and prays. He closes his eyes and folds his hand. He prays, 'Babaji, maine zindagi mein mushkilein dekhi hai aur kabhi shikayat bhi ki hai aapse lekin aaj mujhe Geet dekar meri har shikayat mit gayi hai. Usse hamesha khush rakhna aur hum dono kabhi bhi ek pal ke liye bhi ek doosrein se door mat karna. Mujhe himmat dena ke main apne bhai ko uski galati ki saza dilva sakoun.' He opens his eyes and sees Geet sitting with her eyes closed and a slight smile on her lips. He stands there looking at her reflection in the water and goes closer so that his reflection is with hers. He looks up at her enchanted by her pure innocence.

Geet is praying, 'Babaji, kuch mahine pehle issi jagah aakar apni bikhri hui zindagi ko lekar rote hue aayi thi. Lekin aaj sab kuch theek hai. Mere Maan mere paas hai hamesha ke liye. Aap jo karte hai sahi karte bas hum hi samajh nahi paate. Aaj Maan ki dee hui khushiyon ke saamne har gham chota hai, Babaji. Bas aap apni mehar hum dono par banaye rakhna. Mere Maan ko hamesha khush rakhna.' She opens her eyes to see Maan standing in front of her looking at her intently. He asks, 'Kya maanga tumne?' She smiles and says, 'Jo mujhe chahiye tha, woh toh mere saamne hai Maan. Aaj maine sirf babaji ka shukriya ada kiya. Mujhe zindagi se koi gila, koi shikwa nahi jab tak aap mere saath hai.' He kisses her forehead and they go inside to put flowers in the shrine.

They come out and walk towards the car when Geet stops Maan by holding his hand. He asks, 'Kya baat hai, Geet?' Geet makes a small face and points towards the chaat stall. He says, 'Geet, iss haalat mein? Bahar ka khana? Naih Geet, beemar parh jaoungi.' Geet insists and says, 'Par mera mann ho raha hai, Maan aur main khaye bina nahi jaoungi.' Maan widens his eyes and says, 'Geet, yaha ka paani kaisa hoga? Main tumhe koi acchi jagah se khilata houn.' She says, 'Maan Sir, hamari maaye, behenein, chachiyan sab yaha se khakar gayi hai aur unhe toh kuch nahi hua. Mujhe bhi nahi hoga aur aapko bhi khana parhega.' Maan wants to argue but knows that he cannot win. She feeds him and he ends up having 2 plates. She laughs all the way to the car. She says, 'Maan Singh Khurana ne chaat khaya aur woh bhi bahar se.' Maan is smiling at her reaction and says, 'Ab accha tha, toh than a Geet.' She has another fit of giggles.

They continue to drive and Geet is shocked to see that he is entering Hoshiarpur. He looks at her and knows how she is feeling but does not say anything. He stops outside her house and looks at her. She is looking straight ahead and says, 'Maan, aap jante hai aap kya kar rahe hai?' Maan lifts her chin and makes her looks towards him, 'Main tumhari har karhvi yaad ko tumhari zindagi se nikaal raha houn, Geet. Jab tum yaha se gayi, tumne bilkul sahi kiya. Aur aaj wapas aayi ho, yeh bhi sahi hai. Main janta houn ke tum inn logon ko maaf nahi kar sakogi. Lekin ek baar andar jaakar apni nayi zindagi batao unn logon ko jinhonein tumhe maarna chaha. Tumhare dadaji ka yeh dekhna zaroori hai ke unka faisla galat tha ke agar ek ladki ke saath aisa ho toh uski zindagi wapas sanwar nahi sakti. Yaha aakar tumhe poora yakeen hoga ke tum sahi thi apne haq ke liye larhne ke liye.' She caresses his face and just looks at him with eyes full of love and respect for this man who is hers for life.
