Chapter Twenty (Our fanfic is two decades old! party time! 🤪 okay, sorry for that random outburst. Now time to satiate your ever-hungry curiosity)
"What the hell are you doing here?" a furious Maan asked. "I had told you to get out of the house?"
"Maan, look I'm sorry-"
"To hell with your sorry!"
"Even I've not come here to apologize," she snapped. "I've just come to congratulate you."
"For what?"
"For your marriage. After all, no one wanted to marry a guy who had already spent so many nights with another girl under the same roof-"
"Not. Another. Word." he said, a dangerous look in his eyes.
"So that was your wife, wasn't it? What's her name? Preet? Reet?"
"Geet. Her name is Geet Khurana." he said, gritting his teeth.
"I see," she said, a playful smirk on her face. "Maan has got serious, huh?"
"Do you want me to call security?"
"I just want to tell you, does Geet know about me?"
Maan turned pale.
"I guess not. Maybe I should enlighten her?"
"What do you want?"
"Nothing much. Just some cash."
"Old habits die hard don't they?" he said, his voice dripping with venomous sarcasm.
She didn't say anything. She just walked away.
Geet entered and asked Maan straightaway-"Who was she?"
"None of your business."
"What do you mean none of your business? Why are you sweating so much? Did she say something bad?"
"Geet," he said firmly, anger in his eyes, "Do not interfere in my personal matters. You're not my true wife or anything that you have the right to question me. This is just an arrangement for my grandmother, who was delusional enough to believe we would still have a relationship after-"
"After what?" she asked, tears pricking her eyes. "After discovering my pregnancy? And anyway, what kind of relationship did we ever have?"
The silence echoed throughout the house.
Geet
Why should I get so easily frustrated by what he says? He could be having a thousand girls in Delhi cavorting around him.[
Maan
Why is she getting so freaking serious? Is she also developing feelings for me?
Geet
I am now feeling so terribly alone for some reason. I think Maan is more than just a husband or a father for my child. But I don't know what.
Maan
A boss and a secretary?
Geet
A husband and wife?
Maan
I'm not even friends with her for goodness' sake
Geet
I think we both are overreacting.
"Listen-" they said at the same time, breaking the ice.
"Look," he said with a sigh, "Geet, just stay out of this."
"Well, stop asking me too many questions okay?" she said determinedly.
And they both stomped away from each other.
