Part 4

Geet's Past?

"Maan thank you for being so thoughtful, lekin sach ek na ek din samne aa hi jaata hai so better early than late, aur waise bhi jab tak main apko bata nahi deti I won't feel comfortable being your friend and going back with you so please bear with me," Geet pleaded again she WAS going to tell him everything, she had to.

Maan aapne mujhe hoshiyarpur main mere bade bhai se bachaya tha, but you don't know the reason. You don't know about my past and that's what I want to share with you now that we are friends. I, Geet Handa... she started but was rudely cut off by the shrill ringing of Maan's cell-phone.

"Hello, ji, ji dadima we're fine, Geet yahan hai mere saath woh bhi theek hai, ..... pata nahi I'll ask her! Yes, don't worry we're on our way home right now."

Sorry geet but I don't think we continue with this right now, dadima ghar par akeli hai and we need to be on our way... waise you still havent' told me what are you doing here.... tum dadima ko bina bataye agayi, tum jaanti ho she's not feeling well and still... do you have a sense of responsibility or not,? asked Maan irritably.

"Woh .... woh ma..in," geet stammered, but Maan was not in a mood to be patient with her today, he had to get home. Dadi was home alone and ill too. This senseless girl was going to drive him mad one day.

"Geet ab hum dost ban gaye hai na.. so we can have this chit-chat later abhi dadi ghar par akeli hai and we need to get home," Maan said dragging her towards the car.

It took them two hours to get home due to traffic, and when they did they found Dadi peacefull sleeping in her room in the Main house. Maan went and sat on the edge of the bed checking dadi's temperature, she seemed to be fine and took a deep sigh of relief. He got up from the bed and headed towards the door where Geet was standing looking back at him.

"um....uummm... sir main bhi chalti hoon raat bahut ho gayi hai aap bhi araam kijiye," geet said hurriedly and started to leave for the outhouse, but before she could cross the threshold Maan caught her hand and pulled her towards him, putting one of his arms around her waist and holding her there. "Geet I am really sorry once again for everything I said earlier and umm now that we have become friends I really hope that we can get to know each other and try and get over the misconceptions we have of one another. I look forward to this journey of friendship with you," he said softly.

Geet was mesmerized by his mere presence this close to her and with all that he'd just said she couldn't be happier to have found a new friend in him. Sure, Pinky was her childhood friend and a girl who would understand Geet but Maan had given her a second chance at life and had been here knight in shining armor, he had seen her in her hardest times and was somewhat responsible for the much more confident Geet, he knew more about her already compared to pinky and that's why she was sure that his friendship would definitely mean a lot to her and she would cherish it.

"Thank you sir for everything and you don't have to apologize anymore, I agree what you said this evening was unacceptable and harsh, but you were angry and that's why I don't hold any grudge against you. About our friendship, again thank you for it too. I am glad that we can finally stop fighting at petty things and try something like friendship," Geet replied.

She finally realized their close proximity and moved a little farther away from him and said good night giving him a small smile. Maan couldn't help but smile back and bade good night too her as well and watched her retreating back with a smile on his face till she disappeared in the night.
