"You didn't tell me if you were single-"
"Enough!" my boss growled from his place, without turning around. He had placed one big on the glass wall and it seemed oddly pale in contrast to the dark night.
"What? Why can't I ask her that? You.... Well I have the freedom to be interested in her, don't I? She is verry Loyal, good looking too, I can ask her of anything, or do you forbid it?"
My eyes winded at this man's word. Not even a single word he had said made sense.
Why would Any1 ever be interested in me? I am not pretty or beautiful, Mr. Grewal's mother is. Why would my boss even care what I do in my personal time?
The man grinned enchantingly and spoke with a hint of amazement in his voice, "'. Unbelievably simple and non self-conscious too. Where did you find her huh?"
I remained standing like an idiot not daring to speak. Something about the hand on glass window, warned me to keep quite. The glass looked so fragile under his powerful fingers. Just like the delicate pretence of civility in his room. I saw his fingers contract so slightly, pushing at the glass, itching to hold something. And finally his voice, like the deep silent rumble of gathering clouds before a destructive storm.

CHAPTER 4
From dusk till dawn
I quickly walked from main gate of the office to the. A few people glanced at me, but no one said anything. It's always been like this and it doesn't bother me, what did bother me was the fact that I was coming back to office after a week's leave.
How is he? Is he going to be angry today? Will he just nod his head or say 'good evening'? I want to hear his voice so bad.. It just isn't the same on the phone.
I reached the upper floor and walked over to my cluttered table, files had piled up in my absence, even when I had worked from home, fixed and canceled his meetings and other stuff. I wasn't around to take his dictations, wave people towards his office, watch him nod his head at me.
Ok so I missed him. So what? He is a good boss and.. He probably is the only one who might be affected in the slightest if something happen to me someday… I mean who would be managing all his girlfriend if were gone huh?
I had come early today. So by the time my boss arrived I had cleared my pending work.
And what a sight he is…
I was so lost in admiring him that I never saw the elegant woman with him, until he said, "Miss Sinha… " pause== good, you r back "please send in some wine."
Oh yes… the finest wine for the boss and his visitors.. But this woman looked a bit older than him.. I mean.. I don't mind who he do's but… Uh what am I thinking??! Even Older, she IS more beautiful than any of the women I have ever seen shuffling in and out of his office.
If he is the epitome of handsomeness and has a bod of Greek god. She is beauty personified, elegance magnified.
Yah..and Both of them are coldness artic~e… haughtiness nose~
"Don't patronize me!! Ok? If this crazy women manages to come up, Boss is gonna grill both of us alive for disturbing his meeting with his mother!!"
Mother?!! Wow! She's definitely the most exotic...
"What crazy woman Terry?" I pushed 'mom' to back of my mind for later pondering and concentrated on crisis at hand.
"She is some ex of his and she says he didn't call and you know.."
"I see. Put her on the phone." I took a deep breath and mentally discarded various arguments I can have with this idiot woman.
What did you think? He would fall head over heels for you?...... You r not even better looking than Loraine. Loraine who? She was here yesterday…….. You r pathetic. He hates pathetic! That's why you gotta leave…….… It was on night stand! What part you don't understand?
Nah.. She would just cry if I say any of above.
"Hello..?" I heard a high pitched trembling voice over the phone.
"How can I help you miss?" I spoke calmly. Let her dig her own grave.
"I want to see him!! You can't stop me!! You hear me!! I won't be stopped by like of you!! I-"
A man came in carrying wine and I waved him in.
"Who do you want an appointment with mam? You don't have to shout, the phone is working perfectly fine." Throw her off. Confuse her.
"I.. I want to meet Sujal Grewal. And don't tell me he is not in! I saw him walk in with some bimbo bitc-"
"I wouldn't disrespect his mother if I were going to meet with him. As you saw yourself, he is busy with family business now. Later he has a scheduled meeting with clients from abroad. You want me to disturb him so he can shout at you?"
"Uh.. No.. I .. I want to meet him but.."
"Very well. Then shall I fix you an appointment? First slot of when he is free?"
"Yes, thank you very much, please do."
"I will do that. But he isn't free today. May I suggest that you leave for tonight, recompose yourself for your meeting with him? Leave your address and phone no. with Miss Terry?"
"You would really call me right?"
"Of course I will" Not.
"Oh.. Ok..Um.. Thanks.."
"Please put Miss Terry online."
"Kashish you honey tongue manipulator!! No doubt you aren't afraid of facing the boss alone!"
I ignored terry's comment, what can I say to her? I am always tongue tied in his presence, "Point her out to guard and make sure she never enters the building again. Be prepared to get restraining orders if need arises. Good day."
I put down the phone and glanced up to see Mr. Grewal come out of his office with his mother.
I should be happy for taking care of crazy women before he went down, but his expressions deflated all my elations. His brows were drawn together and his mouth was shut tight, teeth clenched.
Trouble in his highness's royal family…
Suddenly he glanced at me as if he had heard that thought, his tension even lightened for a second. But then his mother looked over me and her disapproval strongly filled the atmosphere. I felt so stupid, small, and insignificant suddenly… Whoa! What had I done wrong?
When my boss returned after seeing off his mother he gave me a barest passing nod… No verbal 'Good evening'..I sighed and continued with my work.
About 2 hrs later I was sitting my boss's office with Mr. Stevens. Our Boss was briefing us about the deal he wants with the Lightworld Ltd. company. He told us that Lightworld was a picky company and we had to have a deal with them and how to go about it.
"Mr. Stevens you will incharge of all day time correspondence with them. If anything urgent comes to play you will coordinate with Miss Sinha."
Now Mr. Stevens sitting beside me was on cloud 9 with this opportunity and therefore babbled like an idiot. "Ofcourse sir. Yes sir. I won't disturb you with meager details."
As if you can. You don't even know his personal number.
Mr. Grewal glanced at me, then at Stevens and said, "Miss Sinha I'll leave you to judge.." the importance of the matter and contact me accordingly no matter what this fool says..
I nodded my head and saved him the trouble of saying the last line, so he nodded back, understanding my thoughts too. Perfect synchronization I tell you.
"I might have to leave during this week too. Start the negotiations from tomorrow." Mr. Grewal said and then leaned back. I stood up to leave and gathering notes. Then we both glanced at Mr. Stevens who was sitting relaxed in his chair, his fingers knotted in his lap, waiting for Mr. Grewal to verbally dismiss him.
As if you r worth that.. He doesn't even nod at you idiot. Hearing his voice is a Reward you have to Earn.
But I don't have gift of telepathy to tell him this and Stevens here lacks tact. So my boss frowned and gestured the man to follow me out. Ofcoure my boss lacks a bit of tact too…
Outside his office as I settled down at my table Stevens turned to me, with word Gossip blinking brightly over his head.
"Thank God we are out of there.. He gave us the chills, didn't he?", he even pretended to wipe nonexistent sweat of his forehead.
"He Is cold." I said non-commitally. Every1 knows he is cold. He knows it too, he works at being cold.
"Yah but.. his whole silent, figure-it-yourself attitude gets to me. Like he is always testing our intellect!!" You are asking me to make more mental space to ponder over his quietness AFTER I waste so much on guessing his pauses, brooding over his eyes and deciphering his nods?
"He wouldn't want mentally deficient working for him." I said, trying to indicate he was the one feeling dimwitted not me and I Won't hear bad things about my boss.
"But still.. You have to admit.. its… Weird around him.. I mean.. One just feels bared and defenseless."
"He is good at reading body movement and I have a report to give to him." I said with inspiration.
"Ofcourse!! Thank god you are with me." With him?!! "You handle him here, I'll handle the contract there."
I blinked my eyes at him and gave him my plastic secretary smile. Nah.. I won't nod at him..
As soon as the guy left the phone rang again.
Isn't today a busy day…
"Kashish!! Hot dude ALERT!! You remember the guy.. who came 2-3 weeks back.. The one who had snuck in? He just walked into the elevator…"
And the connection closed with the ping of elevator. I raised the receiver to call my boss but he came out himself too.
"Mr. Grewal." The man bowed ever so slightly to my boss and gave me a cold stare.
What?!!! Hey what did I do? First the mother and now him! They don't even Know me!!
Gone was the easy flirty guy I had first met. This one looked down on me with approval and malice. Involuntarily, my polite mask slipped to show my frown, but the stranger didn't care about it.
"Let's go to my office. Miss Sinha send in some wine please."
Wine again?!
I hid my disapproval and confusion by averting my face and picking the phone. 5 mins later the delivery boy came with wine and cheese. He looked pale and nearly whimpered when he glanced at Mr. Grewal's office.
"t..the.. o..or…oor..oo.r..order…mm..mma…"
"The Order?", I inquired politely, he was stammering too much.
The guy gave me a nervous nod and looked ready to bolt. So he is afraid… not a new reaction.
"Please take it in." I gestured toward the office.
When the man didn't move I saw that his legs were trembling, he was having difficulty breathing.
"Are you all right?" I asked, it would be disastrous if this guy fainted inside boss's office.
He nodded first then shook his head violently, So he is veryyy afraid..
Making a snap decision I took the food trolley and dismissed him, he looked as if I had just saved him from hell. Weird guy.
I walked over to the door and knocked, "yes." he called from inside. When I stepped inside, I gave my full sympathies to the frightened delivery guy. The atmosphere here was frigid and scary. I could have cut the tension here with the cheese knife.
If my boss was surprised at my appearance he didn't show, coz he had gotten up and walked over to those big glass windows..
Ok so maybe he isn't repulsed by me.. it's the view he likes. what is so great about the view anyway? I wondered and placed the stuff on a low table and then turned to leave.
"Thank you Miss." The stranger said to me. Now I was confused. Should I reply and disturb the silence or just leave and appear rude. The stranger decided to save me from my dilemma by saying, "You didn't ans one of my ques from last time."
I just stared blankly at him, not giving anything away from my face and he seem to be enjoying this a lot. So his crazy act is back
"You didn't tell me if you were single-"
"Enough!" my boss growled from his place, without turning around. He placed one big hand on the glass wall, it seemed oddly pale in contrast to the dark night.
"What? Why can't I ask her that? You don't… Well I atleast have the freedom to be interested in her, or don't I? She is verry Loyal, good looking too, I can ask her of anything, or do you forbid it?"

Just like the delicate pretence of civility in this room. I saw his fingers contract ever so slightly, pushing at the glass, itching to hold onto something. And finally his voice, like the deep silent rumble of gathering clouds before a destructive storm, he spoke, "Miss Sinha, leave."
I didn't feel least bit bad at being dismissed like this, I just couldn't stand that crazy man's company either.

<continued>
As I settled for the remaining of the night, a sense of unease seeped into me. Nothing had gone too well tonight. The sense of foreboding from the mother, then the stupid, hysterical ex-gf, even the perfect unspoken understanding b/w me and Mr. Grewal got to my nerves. And ever since that man had walked away with eyes throwing daggers in my direction, the bad vibes kept crashing into me. Guess where they emerged from? My boss's room..
He had looked and acted fine when the night had begun. His mother had definitely spoiled his mood badly. Then Stevens had irritated him further and this crazy guy had taken a lot out of him too. I am sure my boss was feeling as wary as me.
I Worked late into the night hoping to see my boss last time before he left for the day. But he seemed to have decided to work late too.
Giving up a little before dawn I got up, cleared my table, called the elevator, glanced at his office door, sighed and then got into the lift. And as luck would have it. Just before the door closed he stepped in!!
But he didn't greet me today, he didn't even nod, he just turned his back to me and stood as far as he could. But I was too happy to mind, infact I was too happy to be in my complete senses, "Good day Sir.", I chirped. He didn't respond or nod his head. His hands curled into fists, as if he was concentrating hard at something.
Normally I wouldn't have bothered, but I saw a slight tremor in his shoulders, his neck muscles tighten, so I asked, "Sir?"
I didn't go to him this time, this seemed too much like a repeat of last week. But then he had talked to me that night and he most definitely doesn't look weak to me right now. Still I decided to call his driver.
"Could you please bring Mr. Grewal's car upfront?...... Yes he is leaving…... Oh, he is fine…… Then why am I calling? None of your business."
I shut the phone and kept an eye out for any sudden movement from him. He seemed to have tuned into an agitated statue, but since he hadn't opposed the call I knew something was very wrong. I maintained my distance when the lift opened and walked 10 paces behind him. I knew something was more than very wrong when the hurried driver took one look at him and went sheet white.
It was a good thing that I called the driver though, coz his presence seemed to relax my boss, well.. Relax his muscles to the extent that the next moment he fell down. Dropped down like a dead.
Both of us rushed to him and held him up.
"What's wrong with him" I asked the driver panicked, by unspoken consent we moved out to the car.
"He is fine. Just tired."
"And I am Queen Elizabeth reincarnate!" I spoke haughtily.
At a time like this anyone would have give me a looney look but the driver seriously considered me to be some queen's incarnate? Crazy night filled with crazy people.
"Thank you.", the driver said as we hauled in Mr. Grewal to the back of his car.
"I am not leaving till I am told what is wrong. I can't have him acting weak kneed every once in a while!!"
Now, the driver gave the incredulous-looney look. How dare I claim anything of Mr. Sujal Grewal the great!!
"He needs some sort of help right now, I know that. But I won't leave him till I am told something."
"Miss I can tell you nothing. It's not my place to tell. And you r right I need to get him someplace very fast before he rouses."
"Why? Is he going kill you after he wakes up?" I asked, not budging from the car door, but I shouldn't have said that coz the driver went white as a sheet again. Before we could argue more, my boss made a deep groaning noise from inside the car.
Despite of everything that has happened till now, including my apprehensions and stupid driver's fear of death, I threw caution to the wind and ducked inside to have a closer look at the man who was my boss.
His face was worked up in an expression of pain. Although he appeared to have passed out, his muscles were corded tight with tension. It was as if he had shut down his consciousness intentionally.
"Sir?" despite driver's fear of his waking up, silly me tried to wake him up. How can I help him if I don't know what he wants… He only seemed to grow more agitated with my voice… Okayyy so maybe he does not Want to wake up.. Too bad for him! I've Had it with his fainting spells!
I carefully touched his cheek, blocking all memories of the elevator. The lines of tension on his face eased a little so I cupped his face with both my hands..My voice irritates but touch makes it better. Well well.
I looked back at the driver who seemed shocked by my actions. I raised my brows at him. OK.. I was trying to copy my boss right now… I motioned my head to the front. The driver finally got in and started the car. I badly wanted to ask where we were going but didn't dare to speak, I didn't want to disturb him. He was lying on the seat with his arms were wrapped tightly around my waist and his face was on my lap. My one hand cupped his cheek and other covered his eyes. His body was relaxed in this posture and I didn't know what my voice might do. Ofcourse all of my brain was verryy busy trying to stay strictly business and not think about how his lips had felt near me.
"We are here.", The driver spoke softly, looking dazedly at us. Ignoring his rude stare I nodded and motioned for him to help me move Mr. Grewal.
Surprise, surprise. He didn't want to let me go!!! I could have done cartwheels right now for his reaction. If his face wasn't looking devoid of blood. The driver muttered an oath at his paleness.
"We have to hurry! There isn't much time" , he said glancing around. Don't tell me now some gun propping enemy was going to show up too.
As quickly as we could, which was pretty slow, we got him to partially let go of me and get him out of the car. For a sleeping man he had the grip of a pro wrestler. Awake.. God help me!
Somehow we managed to drag him to his house? He needs attention!! Why take him to his house?!
The butler/ servant opened the door looking quite astonished too.
"WHAT happened", he asked. The driver was silent for a moment, I am sure wondering how much to speak in front of me.
"He was under lot of stress.. Must have taken a lot of his.. concentration.. I think he... he ran out of control…"
Ran out of control? Control! Ladies and gentleman welcome to la-la land.
Since now I was expecting the bizarre, it was a no shocker when the old man nodded his head in understanding. Taking my place to hold boss they both dragged him to stairs going downstairs. This was a mistake coz as soon as the contact b/w us broke, he started to stir and growl with agitation. Trying to help I placed my hand on his back and followed. By the damage was done, he was becoming more conscious with each step, but atleast the growling was under control, both men looked back at me worried.
Worried that I was going to find out their secret? Or worried that I would be around when he wakes up?
Worried for me? Or worried for him?
When we reached the door to his room the butler broke rank and held me back, "Let him take him inside miss. You need to stay out."
"But he seemed better when I was-"
"But Now he is waking up. you should leave." I opened my mouth to argue, then remembered the driver's horrified expression of his waking up and killing him.
So I nodded at the butler and turned to leave when I heard a loud thud from inside the room and seconds later a loud shattering noise. When I turned around the butler was already inside, the door shut. Damm quick for a 90 yr old!
I stood there undecided. Not sure if these 2 men could do whatever needed to be done. The chilly air shouted at my instincts to leave/run, yet a strange pull made me want to go in that door.
The strange current which had come alive in me when he had touched me in the elevator now ran all over my body, numbing my legs for leaving, encouraging them towards the door.
When I heard a painful yell-snap-growl from inside, my decision was made, my mind was blank. I ran and threw open the door to walk in towards him.
His hair was disheveled, he looked like a fierce-warrior, crouched in an attacking stance upon his bed. Everything was broken or destroyed around him. The driver lay bleeding near a broken mirror, the butler stood breathed heavily at the other corner. But all this barely registered in mind. All I could see was him, all I could feel was that strange zing of energy enveloping me, all I could hear was his raged breaths and all could think was about drowning in the deep black a night eyes of his.
I slowly raised my hand and touched his cheek and the world around me blinked out of focus.
