UPDATE 12

Sid stared up into the unending universe that lay above him as he continued to gently stroke Ridz's back with his hands. She was cradled in his arms with her cheek resting on his chest above his heart. As she snuggled up to him she blew out sigh and settled back down. Sid couldn't sleep. The events of the day kept swirling around in his head like a movie stuck on random. He'd get a flash from his conversation with Dr. Rishab and then next would be Ridz in red smiling carelessly. Then it would be that helpless feeling of being lost with nowhere to go and then there would be a flash of his arms wrapped around Ridz as they danced to a song they had begun to think of as theirs. The last ones were him in Rishab's arms letting out his anguish, followed by his arms around Ridz as they made love to each other. One by one the various moments of the day flashed in his head some happy others heartbreaking. And with each one he couldn't stop himself from tightening his grip on Ridz.

Finally, he took a deep breath and let it out. As he continued to stroke Ridz on the back he spoke aloud to no one in particular, "I know I need to tell her, she deserves to know. She's going to tell me that this is our fight, not mine. She's going to want to be with me every step of the way. And if I'm honest then that's exactly what I want to, but I don't know if I can stand to see her in pain over me." Sid looked up to the sky and continued, "I don't know if you can really hear me or not, but my wife seemed to have thought that you were a great confident to share her deepest thoughts with so in this moment I thought I would give a shot. I don't want to tell her anything right now. The second I do it will all change. Did you see her today? Did you see the carefree attitude she has been able to adapt herself with? It took us a while to get here, but we are here. Finally, were are not just husband and wife, but we are best friends, lovers, and soulmates. I don't know if I will ever be able to forgive myself if I ruin it with this truth." As Sid said the words he closed his eyes and wetness escaped his eyes. He thought about all the wonderful times he had shared with Ridz and then he thought about the hardships they went through. And as he thought about what she went through with Armaan, his leaving because of the brain injury Sid thought to himself, No, no I wont do that to her. I saw how much more it destroyed her not knowing what Armaan was going through than the fact that he was facing grim probabilities. She is a strong woman, heck she's gone through so much at such a young age, and she survived. I won't hide something this big from her, she needs to prepare and in order to prepare she needs time. As I already know, time may be precious for us and she should have the right to choose how she wants to spend that limited time we may have together. With these final thoughts swirling in his head Sid finally exhausted himself to the point that he feel asleep with his arms wrapped around his life.

Ridz heard a faint beeping in the deep recesses of her mind. She tried to pull the blanket up to cover her head and go back to sleep, but as she started to pull it up she felt a cool breeze on her legs. She continued to struggle trying to get herself completely covered with the blanket until finally she opened one eye to see if Sid was hogging the blankets again. As she opened her eyes she had to immediately close them back for the sunshine was so bright that she could do nothing else. She tried again this time only opening them up to a small slit and looked over her shoulder at the blanket. She realized that what she was tugging at was not a blanket at all, but rather a black shirt. She stared at the shirt in confusion for a second unconsciously pulling it closer to her face so she could rub her cheek against it as last night began to come back to her. With each flash of last night her smile grew larger until she had a full out grin on her face over the way her mission had ended successfully last night. She turned around so that she could see Sid's face, his arms tightened around her and let out a sigh of contentment. She looked up to see that he was indeed still asleep. His face so adorable and innocent looking, she couldn't stop herself from raising up a hand and gently running her fingers over his forehead, then his eyes, then his nose, his lips and ending with his chin. Slowly she rose up so that she was leaning on her elbow and leaned forward to give him a gentle kiss on his chin, she moved to wake him up with a kiss on the lips her lips an inch away from his when she heard the beeping again. She automatically lifted her head and looked for the source wanting to turn it off before it awoke Sid. She realized it was the alarm clock in their bedroom and slowly got up, put on Sid's shirt, and ran into the room to turn it off and head to the shower to get ready for work.

Sid felt the warmth escape his arms, he turned in his sleep trying to recapture it, when he failed to find it he forced his sleepy eyes open and saw sun, sky and an empty spot next to him. As she sat up and ran his hands through his hair he tried to remember why he was on the balcony shirtless. As he glanced around he saw things such as a tray, a red silk pile, candles and he remembered why he was on the balcony and what had happened last night. He stood up and slowly walked around looking for Ridz, as he entered the bedroom he heard the shower and singing in the bathroom. His face bloomed into a smile as he heard his wife singing Jab Mila Tu the song she always seemed to sing whenever she satiated. He quickly grabbed a tshirt from his closet and pulled it over his head as he headed downstairs to make her breakfast.

He was in the kitchen making pancakes with blueberry syrup standing by the stove so lost in his thoughts on how to tell Ridz today what he found out yesterday. That he didn't even hear Ridz come down the stairs, and didn't even realize she was watching him work for five minutes before she walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. He felt her arms and her chin and immediately lifted his left arm to wrap around her and gave her kiss on her head. "Hey, sweetie I am just about done with breakfast go ahead and grab a seat I'll bring it to you in a few seconds. The cappuccino is already poured just grab your cup and I will be right out. Ridz let go of Sid and grabbed her cup and poured the coffee for him in his and headed to the table. Sid came out right behind and set the food on the table and sat down next to her. Ridz barely waited for him to let go of the plate before she pounced on the pancakes and covered them in syrup and dug in. Sid took his cup of coffee and sipped as he sat back and watched her with a serene look on his face.

Ridz was about half way through her food, pausing only talk about her plans for the day when she realized that Sid hadn't even taken a plate for himself. She paused mid bite and extended her fork out to him and asked, "Sid why aren't you eating? You made all of this food and your not even eating." Sid only smiled back and leaned forward to take the bite she offered. After he finished chewing he responded with, "I have all day to eat, I wanted to make sure you had enough before I started to eat." Ridz glanced at the stack of 10 pancakes sitting in front of her and she scrunched her brows in anger as the words registered, "Siddhant!!! Are you call me a pig?? Are you saying I eat on average 10 pancakes and that this stack wasn't for us but for me?!?" Sid simply started laughing at the indignation on his wife's face and said, "No love, that's not what I meant at all. I was simply saying that I wasn't sure how many pancakes you would have liked to eat as yesterday you had surprised me by how you had worked up quite an appetite." He finished with his eyes lit in teasing. Ridz's anger immediately evaporated and she started laughing. They finished the rest of the pancakes together and Sid walked Ridz out to her car, opened the door for her. She told him she would call him during her lunch break and he gave her one last kiss before he shut the door and waved goodbye as she drove away.

With Ridz out of the house Sid had cleaned up the entire house in a few hours and was left with nothing but silence. As he stood at the balcony looking out at the lake that their house faced and he tried to think of a way to let Ridz know what he needed to tell her. And all that came to mind was...

As Sid remembered of all the wonderful moments with Ridz Sid told himself, I will forever hold these memories close to my heart. I am going to fight this thing with everything in me so that I may continue to be your shield from the hurt of the world, and so that I may grow old with you. I love you Riddhima. Har jagah mein tu samaaya hai...

As he thought about the different ways he could tell her and tried to imagine the different ways she reacted he realized that he didn't even really know what he had or what his options were, if he even had options. The more he thought about it the more he realized that during that chat with his uncle he couldn't get past the fact that he was dying that he missed everything else his uncle was trying to tell him. He knew he needed to get all of his facts together before he told Ridz what he had, what it meant, and what options they had. He had to get it all together before he told her or she would freak out and end up making herself sick with worry. With his decision made he picked up his phone and called his uncle who immediately agreed to clear his schedule for the day so that they could spend it together and talk about what the results actually meant. Sid grabbed his keys and headed out to meet his uncle at their favorite meeting spot...
