Chapter-5

At Office:

Geet came and sat on her desk, today she was more cheerful. Her face glowed with energy today even though she could'nt sleep last night as well.

Just then Maan's siren buzzed, everyone busied itself with work and Geet's heart leapt with an unknown uncertainity, she got really nervous and it seemed that her stomach was misplaced in her body, she felt a void at that place.

In utterly confused state she opened up the file of Mr. Chopra's Project. And remembered Maan's words, she can't quit from her job before completing this project. And with a firm determination she focused herself on the project. Yeah, today she'll complete that project no matter what may come, and hand that khadoos Maan the project details and her resignation... It will be a shock for him and he can't refuse her resignation then.

Maan was walking through the office with his usual fast pace...wondering if Geet had come to office or not.

As he thought about it his legs froze and he saw Geet patiently working on the project. Geet's pen was stuck between her lips and she was engrossed in the project. She suddenly felt something and looked up in the direction of Maan... Maaneet's eyes lock with each other's. Suddenly Geet lowers her eyes, with expression of embarrasment on her face.

Maan gets back to his own cabin. I have to search the truth. He says to himself.

Meanwhile, Geet is busy in her work when Pinky sneaks in.

Pinky:Geet, come on. It's lunch time. Let's have our lunch first.

Geet:Pinky, no...yar, I am not hungry. I don't want to eat.

Pinky:But, yoi can give me company yaar, Please...

(She says in her best chirpy voice)

Geet:I am sorry Pinky...but aaj nahi. I have to finish this project today.

Maan was watching all this through the glass and was happy to see her working.

He went to his seat and started working on the files but could'nt stop himself from occassional glances of Geet.

It was 7.30 p.m. And almost all the staff had gone home but Geet was so dedicated and engrossed in her work that she lost the track of time.

By now, Maan was a bit worried about her and remembered what the doctor had told him. Maan thinking to himself, "Uff! Ye Geet , abi tak kaam kar rahi hai, na isse time ka pata hai na apni sehat ka khyal hai. Ab to mujhe hi kuch karna padega."

He turned his head to see Geet and was shocked by her sudden absence."Ab ye bina btaye kaha chali gayi. Kuch manners to hai hi nai, mei iske vajah se ab tak ruka hun or ye hai ki..."

Before Maan could continue his thoughts he heard a sweet voice calling him, "SIR"

He turned his head in a flash and was taken aback.

A moment before he was thinking about barging into Geet's cabin and give her a lecture on being so careless and here she was, stading right in front of his eyes, just a feet away from her. Before he could force his mouth open and manage to say something,

Geet said,"Sir, I have completed my project today, and you can check it now. I have also attached my resignation letter with it so that you may sign it. I can't come to this office everyday . So, kindly sign it."

Geet said this all in one breath and Maan noticed the confidence with which she had rattled all this, he saw such a spark in her eyes that he wanted to let him drown in her eyes forever and ever but immediately recovered his Sadoo look.

He took one look at the file and then started to point out mistakes, he went on flipping the pages pointing out one mistake or the other which were not mistakes exactly and he would have let them go had it not been Geet who was adamant on resigning.

After going on like that for about 15 mins, he closed the file and handed it to Geet showing fake anger.

Maan:Is this what you call a project? It is full of mistakes and on the top of it you are adamant on resigning. Do you realize how important this project is for our company. Oh, I forgot I trusted the wrong person for this project, I was a fool to hear the client's request and assigning you the project. You are and always be Ms. Runaway. As long as you are not affected by this, you won't understand the importance of this project. Now go away from here, I will sign the resignation, you just go home and relax.

His love had once again transformed into anger, but he thought that by this Geet will not resign at least till tomorrow. And till then he will exactly know what had happened to her in Hoshiarpur which forced her to come to Delhi, and he might be able to stop her from leaving her job.

But Geet was Geet and right now he underestimated her..

Geet:Sir, I will come back to you only when the file is complete.

Maan:Well that's better, you may go now.

But little did Maan realise that Geet had not went back to her house, but she went back to her cabin to improvise the mistakes in the file and project itself.

Maan took a sigh of relief after Geet had left. He thought about calling Munshiji to know about Geet's past. But turning around he was astonished to see Geet at work again.

He was furious now, not with Geet but himself, what was the need of scolding her so harshly. He reproached himself for being so rude to her.

Geet was working attentively. Although she felt humgry and weak,she din't want to put off the project for another day. So, she kept on working meticulously correcting all the mistakes and improviising the details too. She wanted to give it her best and show the Dusht Danav that she is not Ms. Runaway.

Maan was totally confused at Geet's behaviour. It was Geet who was responsible for making him lie, stand all the scolding of doctor and now making him wait for her to finish her project. Maan was deeply lost in his thoughts, his feelings kept on changing from anger to frustration, then pure passion, happiness and pain and the fear of losing her.

The clock struck 11.30. The whether had sudddenly started to worsen, first it was strong winds blowing and then a heavy downpour.

Maan was awaken from his trance by the lightening sound, he turned to see Geet who was still busy and then was alarmed to see the clock.

Without wasting another moment he rushed to Geet's cabin.

Chapter-6

Geet was dedicated at her work, she was doing the final review of file so that Maan can't give even a single comment after that.

Just then wind started blowing out of nowhere blowing Geet's hair over her face and flipping the pages of file. Before Geet could react Maan was enchanted into her beauty, he stepped a little closer to her and took the file out of her hands with which she was struggling to keep the pages straight.

Till then she had not noticed Maan in her cabin and was shocked to see him. Before Geet opened her mouth, Maan took his hand forward and placed her blowing locks behind her left ear. Geet was electrified with his touch and closed her eyes for sometime. Maan was gazing her lovingly, as if she's going to disappear the next moment. Finally he broke the silence and said,

Maan:Geet, enough work for today..Go home now.

Geet opened her eyes breaking from her trance. She replied back

Geet: Sir, the file is complete if you care to have one last look ,my work will be finished.

Maan was in no mood to discuss work but for Geet's sake opened up the file and was thrilled by the brilliance of her work. He couldn't manage to speak out something. The project was done very beautifully and he couldn't decide whether to look at the project or Geet and found himself staring her more than the project itself.

He soon broke from his trance and realized why he was here. "Geet, it's quiet late. You should now leave.", Maan said in a hoarse voice that wasn't his exactly and his eyes were away from her all this while, to avoid losing himself again.

Geet was a bit confused and then said,"ok, so i hope my resignation is accepted and I shall not come to work tomorrow".

Now it was Maan's turn to get confused , he stood frozen there.

Without waiting for his reply Geet left the cabin and walked through corridor, when she felt her empty stomach and was about to faint again but controlled herself and held onto the walls tightly. She din't have any strength left in her to walk even an inch further. She felt herself completely drained. It was just the hatred for Khurana family that kept her conscious.

Meanwhile, Maan jerked awake from his own stupor and went to the corridor to see her almost fainted.

"Geet", Maan cried out reaching to hold her for support.

Maan: Geet are you okay. I must drop you home. Come, let's go!

Maan saw that Geet hadn't budge from her place, he then looked back at her and added as an afterthought,

"Geet, you must get something to eat, you are very weak. Come, rest in the cabin, I'll bring you something to eat."

As he said the last words he noticed that he was holding Geet's arm, and she gradually held his hand with her free hand and ungripped his hold. She then looking directly into his eyes said, "No need to worry Mr. Maan Singh Khurana, I am perfectly alright and I can take care of myself"

Maan was amused to see sudden change in her behaviour, which got him more worried about her and he held both her arms with his hands, he was just inches apart from Geet, "Geet, try to understand, it's very late and wheather has just worsened. Besides, you haven't had anything today, it's harmful for not just yours but your child's health. Geet, for your child's sake only, eat something and let me drop you home. You need rest, Geet"

At this point Geet's expression changed and she placed her hand oh her abdomen so as to feel the life that's breathing in her.

It gave her some sort of confidence and she shot back at Maan, "Me n my baby, why are you worried about it? Why are you bothering yourself with my health? Why showing this false concern? What's the relation between you and me-Boss and Secretary...huh....where you give orders and I am forced to follow them meekly? With what right, you are stopping me right now? Your work is complete and that's what you must be concerned about."

This caused excrutiating pain to Maan not from inside but outside. He loosened his grip on her arms and Geet gathered the courage to move out from it and once again continued walking towards exit.

Maan turned his back to her to hide the tear that just escaped from his eyes. He couldn't think of what he was to do now, he was too dumbfounded by what Geet has just said. He felt his inside empty as if he wasn't a living person but a wooden puppet. Just then his mouth said something that even he hadn't imagined,

❤️"Coz I love you Geet"❤️ He said loudly.

Geet stopped with a jolt at the exit gate. Was she day dreaming or Maan had just said that? She turned herself suddenly to face Maan, who before giving her a chance to react continued, "Coz I was attracted to you the day I saw you, coz I was lost in your beauty, sweetness and innocence, coz you are the one who made me think beyond just business and money, coz I can't see you in pain..."❤️❤️

He slowly turned himself and saw Geet near him again lost into his eyes and suddenly she wrapped both her arms around Maan's body and hugged him, as if he would disappear any moment. Maan, unable to control his emotions reciprocated the hug and held her really close to him.

Geet's empty stomach now groaned, but she din't need words to say this, Maan had sensed it and said, "Come on Geet, Now you must have something to eat." Saying this he lifted Geet in his arms and took her to his cabin and gently laid her on the sofa. He then gave her the tiffin that his Dadi Maa had given him saying that he doesn't eat properly. He remembered about his Dadi and then opened the tiffin to let her eat to her fill.

Maaneet today shared wonderful moments together. It was in those moments they realized how much important one is for the other. Their love was pure and genuine to the fact that Geet no longer held him responsible for his brother's deeds and Maan as such din't care about her past.

But there was more to the truth then Maaneet had ever imagined. After surviving one major upheaval in their life, will they be able to sail through the toughest of weathers still awaiting them, and end up being together.

Well, this was my take on the story.
