I'm spoiling y'all. An update after only 8 days?😲😆
"What happened with Dev?"
She demanded as she rose to her full height obstinately (admittedly not much considering she'd left her collection of heels back in Delhi and had been traipsing around in well-worn sandals for the past two months) and glared at Maan with all the anger she could muster (again not much considering she was facing the man who had perfected the glare).
Maan sighed as he eyed Geet wearily.
He'd pulled the curtains shut earlier in an attempt to afford himself privacy and as the artificial light from the lone swinging bulb cast a soft hue against her skin and afforded her a rare sparkle in her eye, Maan knew that she wouldn't rest until she received a satisfying answer.
"I punched Dev."
He finally conceded, unprepared for the quirk at the corner of her moth.
"Has somebody put it on Youtube yet?"
"Geet!"
Maan warned, shaking his head as Geet pursed her lips, an unmistakeable glint of mirth in her eyes before she finally succumbed to laughter.
"Ok, ok I'm sorry. So when did this happen?"
She finally managed to ask, tilting her head up as she gazed at him with those wide eyes, humour still lurking on her lips.
Maan hesitated,
"Four days ago."
"Four ...? You were in Canada in four days ago?"
"Dev's back in Delhi."
And as if somebody had unforgivingly flicked the lights, the sparks left her eyes, the colour in her cheeks waned and the corner of her mouth dropped as she leant back heavily against the stiff door. Maan watched her with concern.
Should he step outside to give her some privacy? No, she was leaning on it and he could see no way of getting around her short of lifting and depositing her a good feet away. Should he ... comfort her? Step forward and embrace her like he had done at the funeral. Maan shifted uncomfortably as he remembered, in great detail, how that had turned out. Maybe he could just escape through a window and pray he didn't break anything.
But Geet seemed to have noticed something in his expression and she laughed, startling Maan.
"Don't worry, I won't cry all over your shirt again."
And then she coloured, obviously remembering the same event he had been mulling over just seconds before. Maan straightened his shoulders a little, so it had been worth remembering for her?
"Well at least you haven't said I told you so. Wait, that's not why you're here is it?"
"What?"
Maan blinked in surprise at having his train of thought broken.
"Well, my wedding day."
She started hesitantly, eyeing Maan who suddenly looked more attentive than he had seconds ago.
"You told me that Dev wasn't right for me just as I was about to go down."
"Well, Khurana's don't gloat."
Replied Maan loftily, watching with satisfaction as her smile widened, and then he stepped forward on impulse and brushed his palm against her cheek as he eyes widened.
"If you want to run screaming this time as well, I'll understand."
He told her, holding her gaze as his hand slid down the length of her throat, finger lingering at the base of her throat to drum in tune to her erratic pulse as he gathered her close and brushed his lips against the quivering corner of her mouth.
The sharp wail of the telephone startled them both and they jumped backwards like guilty teenagers. They both watched the offending telephone before Maan glanced back at Geet, contemplated resuming where they'd broke off; but finally succumbed to the insistent ringing.
It was the cheerful receptionist (surprisingly unfazed despite Maans abrupt greeting) who informed him that there was still a call waiting. She repeated her offer to transfer it up but Maan once again declined and promised to be down immediately.
He turned to Geet apologetically,
"There's a call."
Geet jerked her head in a vague imitation of a nod as Maan sidled past, before pausing to catch her gaze one more time.
"We'll finish this later."
He promised, tucking a wayward lock of curly hair behind her ear before disappearing out of the room, leaving Geet uncomfortably warm, confused, and entirely too befuddled.
Suddenly at odds, Geet glanced around until she noticed her battered mobile still clutched in her hands.
"Pinky!"
She realised, talking aloud to herself as she watched the blank screen of her mobile.
Pinky would know what to do. And if she didn't, then she'd most likely spiel something psychologic-y that would strangely make sense.
She glanced around for Maan sturdy bad, recalling that they both has the same mobile make. She finally spotted it tucked neatly under the bed, presumably where she couldn't trip over it again, and Geet hurried to yank open the zip. She prayed to whatever Gods were watching over technology that the charger was there.
She found it at last, lying innocently on top of some of formal looking papers bearing her name. Geet sagged against the bed frame.
And that was why, when Maan rushed back to their room, he found the room empty and the power of attorney papers he had never intended Geet to see.
She'd run, again.
Ok so I completely suck at the mushy stuff. This part comes after 5 different drafts which saw a Maan and Geet showdown at the end. But then I opted for something more open-ended.😃
