Is this the right time?" A Storm of thoughts swept my poor mind'Mind is one resource we all use in the most unforgiving manner, don't we? We hardly give it the rest it deserves'What an evening it was ' Gentle Breeze touching us as we crossed its path, may be it was also in search of Love, Palm Trees swaying in Joy, dancing to the tunes of Nature, the tides continuing their never ending effort to reach the shore, Boats sailing at a distance ' All of these contributed their mite to make the evening an enjoyable one, and romantic too'
I was wondering if Nupur was also thinking of what I was thinking'She folded her hands and looked at the farthest point of the Sea'How I wished she could look deep into my soul as well..There would not have been a need to express my feelings'She would have understood'I was still undecided on how I should propose to My Love'Believe me, Loving is easy, Proposing isn't'Love just happens, everything else, you have to drive'And I came to know later that sustaining in Love is the most difficult part'What is most difficult is the fact that, sometimes you have to take pain and continue to show your Love'.You can't have expectations'Not even one'Not everyone can be a true Lover'You have to have a blind belief in selflessness to be a true Lover'You have to be a True Giver to be a True Lover'Time taught me these valuable lessons of Life'
"Nupur ...I want to tell you something'something very important'" I decided to disclose my hidden feelings to my Love'She looked at me and gave me all the attention that she could'She was looking great, as usual...The silver-colored hangings made her beautiful face look even more beautiful'She was as fair as one could imagine and when she smiled'God..She swept me off my feet with that mischievous smile'I thought hard, trying to figure out the most effective, yet honest way to express my feelings for her..She was all ears'She could have imagined what I was up to'But as anyone who has ever had a girl friend in life, even the poor souls who have bypassed the stage and found a wife instead of a girl friend would know, every Girl in the Universe has the knack of not giving herself away'Nupur was no exception'She feigned innocence with ease'That didn't help me much'
There was a girl walking in front of us'She was surely under five'She was holding her dad's hand and walking towards the play area'Her dad was holding her index finger as he carefully took her to the ride which she wanted to take'Once they neared the ride, he lifted her and placed her on the seat'He planted a kiss on her tender cheek as the ride was all set to begin.."Nupur 'Your dad would have and is still taking care of you in the same way, isn't he?" I asked her, my eyes giving away my emotions'"Yes..He is very sweet..He takes great care of me...Why?" she replied'Not that she didn't know the answer'But because she wanted me to give myself away'"Would you let me take care of you in the same way?" I asked her, making my intentions clear'
At this point, she was silent for a while, but kept staring me, the usual mischievous stare, her eyes smiling, lips locking the smile....I knew pretty well, that if she smiled, it meant acceptance'And she finally did'She smiled and said "But you need to take even better care of me'.I am very sensitive'Will you be able to handle the pressure?" To which I replied "I guess that's what I have been doing since the day I met you"'"You Idiot" she punched me gently in my chest..."Thank you God".. this time it was not the inner voice'I actually said these words..Loud enough for the young one who made my life easy to hear them'She was enjoying her ride'I was enjoying my achievement'.Situation demanded a hug, but it was all happening for real'it was not a movie in which the director has his liberties'.And as a respectable citizen, I knew what was appropriate and what was not'So I hugged the little one instead and handed her carefully to her dad'I figured out that in parallel, I was taking a daughter away from another dad'.
I was on Cloud 9 for a few days since the day Nupur accepted my proposal'Congratulating myself for my accomplishment...I deserved to be appreciated, after all the effort I had put in to impress the girl I loved and to get her nod for getting hooked'Wow'.I felt like a hero in real life'Life doesn't give you too many opportunities to feel like that right?'.It was like winning a battle'Only a hard-earned victory creates that kind of satisfaction in our otherwise mundane lives, doesn't it?....
I was not all alone any more in planning for future'It was "our" future, not just mine'.I started to enjoy the bonding better, as there was no speculation'oops'There was still some speculation, whether our parents would accept our marriage or not, but at least Nupur 's opinion was clear'Luckily, we were of the same caste..So the most common reason for ruling out love marriages was ruled out in our case'.We only needed a 'Yes' from both our parents to get locked in wed-lock'.Now the question was, how do we go about it?...Should I approach Nupur 's dad and initiate the proceedings?'That sounded like a bad idea, as it was not the formal approach'My Parents would have to pitch in at this stage and take it forward'For that to happen, I had to first bring the whole matter to their notice'Little did they know that there was a "Chupa Rustum" hiding within me for them to discover'They monitored my academic track record well, but they were not aware of my extra-curricular activities yet'They only knew my past..They were ignorant of how my present was conspiring to change my future'.
" I will try and give a heads-up to Mom and Dad so that they don't get a shock" said Nupur as we were enjoying our usual evening walk in the campus'With its greenery, the campus was not a bad choice for our romantic walk-the-talks..Moreover, there was no fear of getting caught'I mean, spotted by some friend or some Nupur 's paparazzi relative who would be eager to telecast the news to her dad'That's what we wanted as well..The news should reach him, but from a different source'My Parents'"Yup'Introduce me to them as their son-in-law and your sweet heart'And thank them from my side for giving birth to a damsel'" I said jovially..."Hmm'It seems very easy to you right? It's not as easy as that'I would need to convince them that you are the best...And coming to the sweet heart aspect, I never said that, did I?" Nupur winked at me as she tried to pull my leg'"You didn't? I thought you did and refused Sheela's proposal'Now I realize I made a mistake" I returned the favour'"You should have done some ground work'Sheela is engaged'And look who you have picked...The whole campus is crazy about her'She won't even look at you" Nupur completed her analysis which ruled out any possible chemistry between me and Sheela'"You have a lot of campus updates'I need to improve" I backed out..
"How will you introduce me to my in-laws?" I asked Nupur 'It was her job and I didn't need to worry about it'Suddenly I realized that I had a pending question for Nupur '"Sweet heart, the proud BHEL Manager Mr.Sudhir, recognized me when I met him for the first time'He said you told him about me'What did you tell him?"'"Mr.Sudhir??? Is this how you address your father-in-law?" Nupur ignored my question and instead, emphasized on my attempt to take a dig at my loved one'Little did she how much I loved him, just by virtue of being her Dad, he had a fair share of my Love..."I told him that I had a good friend at work..Someone who I can look forward to in case I needed some help"'"Hmm'Good friend'.Was that all I was?" I demanded an explanation'"You were not even a Good friend then'I said so because I wanted to introduce you to him"'"And may I ask why you wanted to introduce me?" I caught her red-handed'.She smiled and said "Don't act too smart'I know you are not"'And I knew I was'.Otherwise, why would she accept me? Why would she even fall in love with me? I felt Smartness was one of my treasured possessions'
We chalked out a plan'Nupur would give her parents a heads-up that my parents would come and see them'I will travel to my home town and walk my parents through the important updates of my life which they missed out on, due to geographical and operational constraints'My parents would come and talk to their counterparts so that they could get rid of me and Nupur 's parents could get rid of her'I also would get rid of my bachelorhood as a side effect'This is something which no man ever wanted to lose in the history of mankind, but one can't be happy all his life, right? Every man has to quit smoking and bachelorhood some day'He won't like to, but life will make him quit'
I started for my hometown that weekend to execute the plan'
