Sorry for the late post everyone
I am busy with my life
here i am posting a bit big part to cover it up
Hope u like it
Next partFeigning bravery, I walked past Tiger, and entered Nupur's house'The hall was spacious and the walls were adorned by a few posters with motivational quotes'
"Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached" read one of them with Swami Vivekananda's photo on it...
I was determined to do that each day till the day I get married to Nupur'
"Will she agree if I propose to her right away?" Suddenly my confidence improved a lot, may be because she invited me to meet her parents, may be because she shared some of her personal feelings while we were having chat...
"Come on in Son" invited a middle-aged, almost bald man, dressed in a neat white lungi and a blue shirt'
"For God's sake'don't call me Son'.You can think of me as your sister's son, if you want to" I said to myself and said "Hello sir" to my father-in-law...As he expressed no surprise on seeing me in his house, I wondered if Nupur had already briefed him about me'
I wondered what she might have told him'"Dad'There's a guy at office who appears interested in me"'
"Dad'I am seeing someone at office"'But our relationship was still in its budding stage, so these kind of introductions were less likely'I hoped she didn't tell him that someone was troubling her at office!!!
I and my father-in-law occupied the two ends of the sofa which was the star attraction of the hall'It was the only thing which provided some comfort in that tensed situation'.Planning to meet a girl and executing the plans required some skill and bravery'but meeting her male family members for the first time, in her presence, required a lot more bravery'
I hoped she didn't have a brother as well'That would make the equation three versus one'Nupur's Brother, Father and Tiger'.Ready to pound on me and take their share of flesh'Not that the reception was bad'In fact, it was affectionate, but you have your own doubts if the girl whom you have been after, for a while, suddenly takes you to her house right?...
"I am Sridhar'Nupur's father'I work for BHEL as a Manager'I have been with BHEL for 19 years now'The company treats me very well.." This looked almost like a summary of my father-in-law's resume than an introduction'"
Who cares what you do buddy? All I want is a Yes from you"
I wanted to say, but life doesn't always let you express your true feelings'
So I chose to say "Nice to meet you sir..I am Mayank , Nupur's colleague"'
"Yes I know'Nupur told me about you" came the reply...
For the second time during that evening, I began to wonder what Nupur might have told her dad'"Nice guy", "Hardworking guy" or even better "Cute or handsome guy"....I had a craving to know what were the exact words she used to describe me'Unfortunately, I couldn't ask my father-in-law, so I decided to ask Nupur later'
"Preeti'Please get some coffee" screamed the guy in whose hands, my future was locked, to his wife..
It struck to me that most crucial decisions in one's life are sometimes in the hands of, not only your loved one, but your loved one's loved ones as well'.By transitive property, he was my loved one too'At least, till he agreed to our Marriage'
"Nice house Sir" I resorted to flattering'I knew that flattery is the food of fools'but more often than not, it works'
"Thank you'I supervised each and every aspect of the construction'I used to come to the site each day to see that nothing went wrong.." came the proud reply from the proud owner of the house'
"Hmm'If someone is so careful in the construction of his house, he would be much more careful in choosing a groom for his girl" I thought, feeling like a student who had to give his board exams in one or two days'
Tiger entered the hall and lied down opposite to me, carefully scanning me'.Would Nupur insist on having a dog once we get married?...God'the idea sounded scary'.Scarier than my loved one's bald head'
My mother-in-law entered the hall with two cups of coffee, and offered them to me and my father-in-law'As is the case with Father-in-law, I am dropping the word 'prospective' from the phrase 'prospective mother-in-law' for the sake of convenience'She was fair and tall'I wanted to see the couple standing beside each other as I suspected that she was at least one inch taller than him'"Could be Love Marriage" I thought'
If it were arranged, they would have probably ruled out the bridegroom as short'Probably realizing this, my father-in-law arranged his marriage on his own instead of taking the conventional route'.Despite the one-inch difference, the couple looked good together'It occurred to me that they would have looked even better if my father-in-law stood up and asked his wife to sit beside him'With due respect to my in-laws, specifically my father-in-law, let me drop this thread here'
"She is Preeti, my wife", said Nupur's dad'."Hello Aunty" I said, to which she just smiled'"We will hardly ever have a common topic of interest to talk about" I thought'In few relationships, you don't have to talk'In few others, you have to talk whether it is required or not'I appreciated myself for the maturity I had in understanding relationships ' both existing and prospective...I was not sure under which category the relationship
I shared with Nupur would fall under..I comforted myself concluding that it was the former'All the while, Nupur, who was occupying a seat beside her dad, was silent'I wished she spoke something to fill the communication gap between me and my in-laws'She instead chose to watch TV ( which was on mute ) and play with Tiger'
After about 3 and a half minutes of silence, I felt that it was time to leave'Somehow I was not very happy with my performance that day'
I felt I was more successful with Nupur than I was with her dad'I defined two goals for myself '
1) Increase my rapport with Nupur
2) Impress her dad and make him say 'Yes''
I thought hard about the modus operandi on my way back home'The work I had in Begumpet was over'I looked at the main door for a while when I started my bike, anticipating that Nupur would come out to say 'Bye''After all, every heroine does that for the hero in movies'
And that was my only chance to feel like a hero'Once they get married, heroes become husbands'and I knew that both
are not synonyms' Nupur didn't come out'My first dose of disappointment started then'But I was so involved with planning our love story that disappointments seemed trivial to me at that stage'
That day Nupur came to office in a Saree'May be it was some auspicious day'As far as I was concerned, the only auspicious day was our marriage day, which seemed nowhere near'I started approaching Nupur with ease..We were not strangers any more...I didn't need any excuses to meet her'Now I was in Level 2 of the game'And I was playing well'
"Shall we go to Eat Street today? I heard from my friend that it is a nice place" I asked Nupur'I got used to taking my chances'Because when you are in love, you can't shy away from taking your chances'If you do, you feel insecure that someone else might grab them'"Hmm..Have some work till 6 today'Can we start at 6? You will have to drop me home" came Nupur's reply....
"Sure'You don't have to ask" I said'
The Clock showed 6 10, and there was no sign of Nupur yet'I called her up and informed her that I was waiting outside the building'"Coming'Almost done" she replied'"Sure" I said'
No boy friend ever gets upset with his girl friend for those kind of silly things'.I was no exception'Nupur came out finally at 6 30, and we reached Eat Street at almost 7 15'.You don't drive fast when the pillion rider is a girl right'When you are alone, you want to be Schumacher'But when you are hooked and your loved one is with you, you drive like a melody song from 60s or 70s'
We were walking together, feeling the gentle breeze'Nature was showing her love on mankind that day'And moreover, Nupur was wearing a saree'Hmm'What could have been a more perfect setting for me to propose to her?
Like Airtel Ad, a voice within me said "Express Yourself"'I decided to transform my emotions to words and transport them to Nupur's mind'.
