Part 15

We went the next day. Sharp 7 pm.

We were all alert as to what might come our way.

We met Riddhima, Atul and Muskaan in the hall.

Atul saw something and winked to Riddhima. Riddhima blushed and lowered her eyes.

As usual, I was confused.

Muskaan stood with a dreamy smile and Atul kept stealing glances.

I looked over to Anjie and Rahul.

Aha! So this was it. Anjie too blushed whenever Atul looked at her and Rahul too had a stupid grin on his face.

Silly! But why was Riddhima blushing?

Was she....?

No ways! She couldn't be blushing because of me.

But, what if that was the reason? Was this the reason why we were invited for the dinner?

I don't know why, but it felt good. I liked that.

I looked up at Riddhima and our gaze met.

She had a pool of emotions in those big expressive eyes. She was looking hopefully at me.

Our eyelock session was interrupted by a fake "Ahem".

Embarrased, I looked to where their parents stood. They had a smile on their faces.

And along with them were the lady and man whom we had seen on Nikki's birthday party.

"Welcome!" Mrs.Gupta said.

"Namaste ma'am." I replied.

She beamed at that. Mr. and Mrs.Gupta looked over to Riddhima and smiled a big smile at her. She lowered her eyes.

"Beta, ma'am nahi aunty kaho. Mujhe ye ma'ma, sir bilkul pasand nahi." Mrs.Gupta said.

"Namaste aunty. Namaste uncle." We all said that to everyone.

To our surprise, they hugged us.

"Armaan, Anjali, Rahul? Inse milo. Ye hain hamare massi aur massu." Atul introduced.

"Namaste."

"Namaste."

"Umm Nikita nahi hai?" Anjie asked.

"Nahi. Aaj uski koi important surgery hai, isliye der se aayegi." Mrs.Malhotra answered.

By that time we had settled on the couch.

It was somewhat uncomfortable. They all looked at the three of us and were conversing through eyes.

"Aur bachchon batao, tumhare mummy-papa kaise hain? Muskaan ne bataya ke tum log triplets ho." Mrs.Joshi asked.

"Ji, wo...humare mummy-papa nahi hain...." Anjie answered. Her voice was cracking.

"Actually, we three are orphans." Rahul said with his eyes on the floor.

They all seemed shocked.

Anjie couldn't hold it and asked for the washroom.Muskaan led her.

Immediately after that they started consoling us. Their massi and massu had slight tears in their eyes.

"Sorry beta, humein nahi pata tha.." Mr.Gupta said

"It's Ok, uncle. Actually Anjie sabse zyada emotional hai, isliye..." I said, staring at my hands.

Anjie returned. It was evident from her face that she had cried her heart out. She could never bear such questions which asked her about her identity, her parents, who, how when and all.

Even though both Rahul nad me too were sensetive to such matters, we had to control ourselves. We had to be strong, of not for us atleast for Anjie.

I turned and looked to see Riddhima bloodshot eyes, Atul too was shedding unknown tears while Muskaan sobbed silently.

I gave a weak smile to Riddhima. That was all I could do at the moment. She mouthed,

"Sorry." I nodded, but then looked away.

I was scared that tears would find their way out.

Mrs.Malhotra started a light hearted conversation. I liked this quality of hers. She knew how to handle the situation. I later came to know that she too was a doctor and knew how it felt since she had interacted with the patients and had to deal with them almost everyday.

It was dinner time. Things had cooled down and everyone was back to normal....atleast they showed that.

"Arre, beta take this. Riddhima has especially made it." Mrs.Gupta said.

I looked over to Riddhima, she was staring at her plate. But I could sense that she was waiting for mr to sat something.

"Mmmmm, bohot tasty hai aunty." She smiled.

"Beti, ye bhi lo. Ye hamare special chef Atul ne banaya hai. I'm sure tumhe pata nahi hoga, par Atul bohot achcha khana banata hai." Mrs.Joshi said.

Same for Rahul.

"Arre beta, ye le na. Muskaan ne banaya hai. Waise to kabhi kitchen mein nahi ghusti, lekin jab bhi banati hai achcha khana banati hai."

I was wondering what was cooking. I know loads of dishes were cooked, but still you know, dal mein kuch kaala tha.

Neeche dekha to kali dal thi. I sighed at my lame joke.

But I couldn't help it. Why was everyone bahaving like this?

What were they thinking? Rahul, Anjie, me?....... Oh no!

It struck now. They had visualized their future sons-in-law and daughter-in-law in us "triplets".

Trio for triplets.

What to do now? As I was thinking, I unknowingly dropped the some curry on my sleeves.

"Oh no!" I rolled up my sleeves and asked for the washroom.

When I didn't get my reply I saw the Guptas, Joshis, Chaddhas, Malhotras and massi-massu staring at my arms.

Ok, I know I had a well-toned body, but I would show them by biceps later. I wanted to know where the washroom was right now.

"Ye tumhare..." Massi asked looking at the birthmark on my arm.

"Haan, umm, ye mera birthmark hai." I said. I couldn't understand the expression on their faces.

Anjie and Rahul too couldn't decipher why they were saring ta my birthmark.

"Tum teeno triplets ho na?" Massu asked.

"Ji haan." Rahul said not sure why the sudden turn of events.

"Tumhari birthdate kaya hai?" Massi again asked.

She had not liftes her gaze from my arm.

"Umm, 14th of July." [Hehe, maine apna birthdate daal diya. Achcha hai ye teeno mere birthday par paida hue the]

They were horror struck.

Massi couldn't hold any longer and came running towards us.

"Mere bachche!"

Anjie and RAhul had come by my side and she took all of us in her embrace.

"Mujhe mere bachche mil gaye, Billy. Mere bachche mil gaye."

"Ananya...."

"Ye mere bachche hain. Mujhe pata tha, isliye main bar bar inke baare mein pooch rahi thi. Mujhe usi din pata chal gaya tha."

We didn't know what to do. We stood like a statue.

Grrrrrrrrrrr. Shab gandu!!!!!! Shab ko mele mystely ke baale mein pata chal gaya tha. *sniff* *sniff* 😭

Par ye main change nahi kar sakti thi. This was the base. Bhoomika, Pooja di, Vini.......ganduuuuuuuuu chalo apna apna resume bhejo, I'm appointing you detectives in my agency. 😆
And baaki sab bhi jinhone guess kiya hoga par bataya nahi....
