Raj brushed his lips against Naina's soft dewy ones and leaned back to take in the sight of her beautiful face. Her eyes were shut but the crimson growing on her cheeks and the slightly uneven breathing told him how affected she was by the infinitely small kiss and he smiled, caressing her cheeks with the back of his fingers.
"Aankhen kholo Naina" he whispered huskily, desperate to see her love in her eyes. He knew she was in love with him and he also knew that she knew it now. The serene smile on her lips just a moment ago and her extra blush at the touch of his lips proved it to him.
Naina felt too shy to look at him. How could she? She felt her heart racing away as he tightened his grip some more and she was left wondering how he could pull her even closer when they were already crushed against each other. One of his hands lingered at her waist, sensuously trailing along her bare skin and her breath hitched in her throat. His other hand was caressing her cheeks and try as she might, she could not open her eyes to face him.
Raj felt rather than hear the catch in her breath and bent lower, dropping feather light kisses along the corner of her lips, always teasing her with a barely there touch on the sensitive skin.
It seemed to have the desired effect when Naina opened her eyes, looking into his gray ones that were now smoldering in passion. Her heart skipped a beat and her lips parted of their own, although she was confused about the strange tingly feeling inside her. Did love feel like this? Like she was about to burn up at his gaze and ready to melt in his arms. Like every inch of her skin tingled and every breath was labored. Like he was her entire world and every single touch of his was a jolt of electricity. Like every smile of his brightened her universe and every drop of tear fell like a drop of acid on her heart. Like every day spent with him contained a lifetime of happiness and every hour spent away from him pricked like a thorn. Is this what everyone in love feels like?
Rajveer felt desire slam into him when he looked into the glazed eyes of his wife. Passion, love and a tiny bit of nervousness warred inside her eye. He knew she had not yet confessed her love for him but was that necessary? Wasn't the ocean of emotions brimming in her eye enough for him?
Holding her gaze with his, he once again leaned down, gently touching his lips to hers. He applied the subtlest of pressure on her lips, urging her silently to join him. Her lips felt so soft and so sweet beneath his and he lost himself in her, coaxing her to respond.
Naina had never been kissed before and when her husband kissed her for the first time, she thought her heart would burst from the happiness and excitement. She knew she had to do something but did not know what. Suddenly she was hit by anxiety. What if Raj found her too inexperienced and not up to his expectations? She did not even know how to kiss!
Raj pulled back an inch when she stiffened slightly and could easily read the confusion in her eyes. God, he groaned silently, his wife was so innocent. He did not know how he will be able to curb his urges in front of her but for now, he had to ease her into their new found intimacy and slowly make her comfortable with him.
"Kiss me back Naina" he demanded huskily, his voice not more than a whisper and claimed her lips in a soft kiss once again. When she shyly moved her lips against his and kissed him back, he swallowed the groan that threatened to escape him and restrained from deepening the kiss any further. He knew she will get scared by his passion and kept a tight leash on his control as he placed gentle and soft kisses, never deepening it and never invading her mouth, even when every fiber of his being screamed at him to taste her and claim her.
Naina could feel her knees turn into jelly as she struggled to breathe with her husband's kisses. She slowly tried to copy him and kissed him back and could feel his passion shimmering just beneath the surface. She was thankful to him for his control, she did not know if she had the strength to take anymore that night. First it was Rajveer's soul-touching confession through the song, then realization of her feelings towards him and then this onslaught of kisses, just enough to tempt her but drawing her out of her nervousness and fright.
They did not know how long they stood that way, immersed in each other, when Raj felt Naina slump against him and caught her around her waist. He pulled her close and breaking from their kiss, Naina buried her face in his chest, breathless and blushing, yet aching at the sense of incompleteness that engulfed her when they broke apart. He embraced her fully and stroked her hair to calm her while his own breathing slowed down. He had just kissed her and his heart felt as if he had been running for hours, thudding and tripping.
His eyes fell on the clock and a wave of disappointment rolled into him. It was almost 6.30 and Shalini had cheekily told him that she was giving them only 30 minutes and that she would barge in after that. She had been merciless in her teasing and he was too embarrassed to bargain for more time with her. She had winked naughtily and reminded him that he had all night for whatever else he intended to do and to his horror, he found himself blushing at her words.
He knew the gang will come in any time now and he unwillingly stepped back and released her. He kissed the top of her head lovingly and tipped her head up to look into her face. She looked so beautiful at the moment, her face flushed and eyes sparkling with happiness. His eyes dropped down to her lips and he smiled to himself as they quivered when his gaze caressed them. His raised his hand to wipe the smudge of lipstick from the corner of her lips and smiled when she turned even redder that before. She truly looked his wife now, he thought smugly.

"Kya hum andar aasakte hai?"
Raj sighed when he heard Shalini's voice at the door and stepped away, to open the door and let their friends enter. The entire gang trooped in, the second year cadets with Sameera and Neelu tagging along and Shalini. They had a box of something heavenly-smelling and he instinctively knew it was something Suriji had specially prepared. It smelled of his magic!
He welcomed them all in and turning a blind eye to the teasing looks Shalini sent his way, went to set up the table for the cake Shalini had got. The cadets had crowded around Naina and were all wishing her while Raj and Shalini stood aside, observing Naina's expression at being surrounded by 4 tall and well-built men. After the encounter with Mishra, even as she was slowly getting better, she would always flinch in close company of any male other than Raj, so when she comfortably talked with them and even hugged Alekh lightly without any discomfort, they looked at each other and smiled. Naina was truly cured now!
Raj looked at Shalini and immediately knew something was bothering her. He had seen her smile at him, but he knew her too well to know it was brought on her face with a lot of effort. She was not meeting his eyes and the only time she did that was when she had to hide something from him. There was something in her mind, something troubling her and holding her gaze he blinked reassuringly, as if promising to her that he will be there if she wants to talk.
Shalini knew Raj would instantly catch her. He was her best friend and knew her too well for her to try fooling him with a show of everything being alright when things were not. She was waiting to talk to him too, and share her burden. He was her only friend and relative and who else could she share her sorrow with? A flash of Yudi strumming the guitar and comforting her with his song flashed in her mind and she immediately glanced at him. She did not want him to feel sorry for her or even bring that matter up again. It was a moment of weakness and she hoped it remained that way. He had not followed her when she left abruptly and when he had joined the gang a few minutes ago in the corridor outside Rajveer's home, he had not even looked twice at her. He was back in his Cadet Yudi mode and acted the same funny, immature way with his friends, while she knew that the mask was back. She sighed, grateful that Yudi had not brought it up again and something told her he will never speak about it.

The cake had been cut and everyone had wished Naina and given their gifts when Huda approached Raj nervously.
"Sir can I talk to you for a moment in private?"
Raj gestured to Naina to continue and stepped out into the balcony with Huda and closed the door behind them. "Yes Cadet Huda. What can I do for you?"
"Mein Cadet Huda nahi hoon. Ab mein sirf Amardeep Huda hoon aur mein Rajveer Singh Shekhawat se baath karna chahta hoon. Captain Shekhawat se nahi" he replied boldly but only he knew how fast his heart was racing at the moment.
"Very well. So kahiye. Mein kya kar sakta hoon aapkeliye?"
"I want to woo your sister" he blurted out instantly and closed his eyes, waiting for the punch that never came. Any brother would have punched the daylights out of the man who dare make such a proposal and he was surprised when he did not feel anything even after a couple of minutes.
Wondering if Rajveer had even heard him, he opened his eyes only to find a amused Raj looking at him curiously. Feeling more confident that he was not going to be thrashed, Huda straightened himself to his full height and started again.
"Mujhe Sameera bohut achi lagti hai. I think I love her. Lekin usse baath karne se pehle mein aapke rai jaana chahta hoon. You are her brother and she keeps saying you are her only relative. Isiliye mein aapse pooch raha hoon"
Raj was surprised to hear that Sherry was not even aware of Huda's feelings. He had gotten vibes of Huda's feelings for Sameera a couple of times now but he never wanted to interfere in matters that were not his own, even if Sherry was his sister. He knew she was old enough to handle her own affairs but if she needed him, he was always behind her, to support her and guide her. With Huda's initial words, he had assumed that Huda was asking his permission to propose marriage but he was taken aback when Huda asked his consent to even speak to Sherry. He had always thought that Huda was a carefree youth, over ambitious and too proud to be a good soldier but the past few weeks had seen a marked difference in him. He had always respected him for his intelligence and never-say-die attitude but his respect rose higher now.
"So Sameera is not aware of your feelings, is that right?"
"Jee. Agar aapke ijazat ho mein usse baath karoonga. Lekin decision uske upar hai. I will not force her at all to accept me" he added hastily, while praying to God for the first time, as far as he could remember.
"Well you have my approval, Huda. Lekin yaad rakhiye. If you hurt her it will be her brother punishing you but it will be Captain Shekhawat's blows that you will receive" he grinned, showing his fist to him.
"Thank you so much Sir. Mein aapko aur Sameera ko shikhayat ka mauka nahi doonga" he promised, dazed by the boyish smile that lingered on Rajveer's face. They had very very rarely seen Rajveer smile and he was grinning fully now. He could not help but compare the Captain Rajveer they had known for the past year and the man who stood in front of him now. And he knew the reason behind that. It was love.. love that has changed him, has also changed Rajveer Singh Shekhawat.
Raj was about to turn around and leave when he heard Huda's voice. "Naina is good for you" he stated simply and Rajveer opened the door with a faint smile, not turning around. There was no need.

The cadets had left shortly after 7.30. Major Bhargava had become a major pain in the neck and had restricted the mess timings to 8pm for dinner, closely followed by lights-out. Solitary confinement was awarded very generously to anyone found wandering after lights-out and the cadets had decided to follow his rules at least for a few days before they started breaking them. Moreover Major Bhargava was way more intimidating than Major Nair and they all hated solitary confinement. Raj had to intervene once when Alekh was caught sneaking out for a bottle of alcohol, to save him from the dark and dingy room and had extracted a promise from Alekh that he would stop drinking if Raj saved him. The deal was struck between mentor and cadet and Major Bhargava had been furious, although he could do nothing more. Raj was Alekh's mentor and had full authority to give or repeal punishments to Alekh.
Raj had forced Shalini to join them for dinner and she smiled weakly, nodding her head. She knew what was coming up and she was ready for it. She smiled in genuine happiness at the sight of her two friends and the picture of a blushing and shy Naina confirmed to her that Raj had been successful in his mission of confession. She was truly happy for him, at least he got his love!
"So Naina, tumne yeh nahi kaha ki apne pyare patidev tumhe kya diya?" Shalini asked casually as she helped herself to some more curry.
Raj and Naina immediately shared a look as the image of their kisses appeared before their eyes and Naina blushed deeply while Raj looked at her indulgently. Shalini caught this exchange and bit her tongue. It looked like something very personal and by Naina's blushing face she could hazard a guess on what Raj gave Naina.
"Mera matlab, what did he gift you?" she clarified her question hastily. She did not want Naina to feel embarrassed in front of Shalini.
Naina looked down shyly and glanced at Raj from the corner of her eyes. "Phool.. and he sang a song for me.. and.." she stuttered as memories of what followed his song filled her mind. "Uhh.. bas" she squeaked and pleaded silently to not ask her anything more. Shalini felt pity for the poor girl and decided to get all the details from her some other time and chuckled at the thought.
They finished dinner in comfortable silence and even Naina slowly realized that Shalini was very quiet during dinner. And Raj only knew too well that something was on her mind. He fully intended to talk to her after dinner and as soon as they were done and Naina made herself busy in the kitchen getting dessert for them, he pulled her to the couch and seated her. He sat on the other couch and held her hand gently yet firmly. And that was when the dam broke.
Shalini sobbed uncontrollably as soon as she felt Rajveer's comforting grip and shed the tears she had been saving since the time she caught sight of him.
Naina rushed into the living room at the sound of sobs and stood frozen at the sight of the ever-resilient Shalini breaking down as Raj comforted her by stroking her hair. She did not feel any jealousy now seeing them together, in fact, she felt Shalini's pain and was thankful that at least Raj was there to support her in her hour of need.
She was debating with herself on how to make herself invisible to allow the friends talk to each other openly when she heard Shalini's sobs die away and looked up to find the both of them staring at her. "Er.." she did not know what to say, "I will just be back" She tried to move away and give them some privacy when Shalini called her.
"Naina yahaan aao. Tum meri dost ho aur mujhe abhi doston ki sakt zaroorat hai" She firmly indicated Naina's position in her life and Naina immediately went to her and held her in an embrace as fresh tears rolled out of Shalini's eyes.
Shalini composed herself and looked at Raj, who was patiently waiting for her to talk about her sorrow to him. "Abhimanyu waapas aagaya hai" he whispered hoarsely, her voice choking from all the crying she had done since evening. Raj was shocked at the news but right now he only wanted to comfort her, who was obviously hurting. "He has come back to KMA.." she continued, ".. along with his wife" she added in a whisper and shut her eyes to quell the pain rising in her.
Raj felt disgust rise in him at the thought of the man who had once been their friend. It seemed like a long time ago but somehow when it came to Abhimanyu Rai Chauhan the dark memories always won over the pleasant ones. His grip on Shalini's hands tightened when he realized how pained Shalini must have been when she saw him and his wife at KMA. She must have been heartbroken but she had put a smile on her face until now, just for Naina's and his happiness.
Naina tightened her hold around Shalini and uttered soothing words, although she knew no words she said could help fix the wound in Shalini. It looked like a wound that had festered for a long while now and someone had cruelly ripped open the bandage and poked at it mercilessly. She did not know the complete story but she knew she will support Shalini and stay by her side when she needed her friend. She will remain silent and allow Shalini let it all out, even when questions were bubbling inside her.
Raj met Naina's puzzled glance and thought she had to know something about the whole story. "Abhimanyu Rai Chauhan humare saath yahaan KMA mein cadet tha. Hum teeno bohut ache dost they, or at least we thought we were friends" he bit out, obviously hurt himself by whatever had happened.
"Only you and I thought so Raj" Shalini cut in fiercely. "Did you forget? Bhool gaye woh kya kehkar gaya? He said you and I could never be friends with His Highness Prince Abhimanyu Rai Chauhan" she laughed mirthlessly, the laughter laced with anguish as she recalled the hurtful memories.
"You know Naina? Abhimanyu aur mein kabhi ek doosre se bohut pyar karte they", she paused and frowned, missing the look of utter shock on Naina's face. "Actually I think only I ever loved him", she continued, "warna woh mujhe aise beech raaste chodke nahi jaata" She fell silent then and seemed to be lost in memories that were obviously causing her distress.
Raj squeezed her hands gently and continued, having understood that Shalini did not mind Naina knowing the whole thing. "Abhimanyu, Shalini aur mein.. hum teeno bohut ache dost they. We always had competition among us but we were also very close friends. Hum KMA mein mile they aur kuch hi dinon mein Abhimanyu aur Shalini ek doosre se pyar karna lage they. They were so happy but when we passed out of the academy they broke up", he paused for a moment, his voice faltering and added in a low voice, ".. because of me"
Naina was even more confused now. She could not believe that her Raj could come in between Shalini and this Abhimanyu. Before she could question him, however, Shalini interrupted them, as if she had been jerked from her thoughts.
"What nonsense Raj! Mein tumhe kitni baar kaha ki tum waja nahi ho. Yeh sab hona hi tha. Tum aur Captain Navin sirf ek bahane they" She turned to Naina and clarified everything in a single breath, her voice surprisingy firm and steady. "Abhimanyu was unhappy when I supported Raj after Navin Sir's trial. He wanted me to break my friendship with Raj since he did not want to be linked to a tainted man. Bol raha tha ki uska raj parivar jo hai woh log naraz hojayenge. Lekin jab mein mana kiya woh mujhe chod diya.. kyunki uske parivar waalon ke nazar mein hum dono doshi they. Sirf isiliye kyunki hum Navin Sir ko support kar rahe they. We broke up but we knew the real reason. Mein ek anaath hoon aur uske parivar waalon kabhi mujhe sweekar nahi karenge. He was just a big coward who did not fight for his love. Waapas apne ghar chala gaya aur chup chap kisi bade ghar ki ladki se shaadi karliya. Aur aaj.. apni uss patni ke saath yahaan KMA aaya hai woh. Himmat dekho uski" she fumed, all the pain and betrayal converted into furious anger by now.
Raj and Naina sat still, allowing Shalini to rant to her heart's content, who was spewing some highly censorable words on Abhimanyu. 30 minutes later she finally calmed down and the three of them sat in silence. Shalini had let it all out and had finally realized that she did not have to run and hide always. She was Shalini Singhal and she was going to face Abhimanyu Rai Chauhan boldly and fearlessly.
Naina broke the silence tentatively and looked at Shalini hesitantly. "Umm.. Shalini.. I am sorry" "Tum kyun sorry keh rahe ho?" Shalini frowned unable to understand. "Umm.. Papa ke waja se tumhe taqleef hui. Iskeliye maafi chahta hoon"
Shalini stared at Naina for a whole minute before she threw her hands up in the air. "I tell you Raj! You have found the perfect girl to fall in love with. She is exactly like you.. even holding herself guilty for something she was not even remotely connected to! Tum dono ko meri mubarak ho. Kaise Ram milayi jodi ho tum dono!" she seethed sarcastically and left, muttering under her breath about stupid friends.
Naina looked at Raj questioningly and he was gazing at Shalini's receding figure with an affectionate look. "She will be alright" he assured her silently.
