Nupur switched the channel. "Good Morniiiiiing Mumbai! Today is a very special day for those who want to pour their heart out to their near & dear ones. And the best way to do it is- by giving a Rose! Yes friends, today is Rose day!"

Nupur switched off the T.V. Rose day had lost its importance in her monotonous life, which had seen a brief spell of joy, only to be engulfed by gloom. Trying hard to stop old memories from haunting her mind, she put on her jacket & sneakers & set out towards her resort to peace. Darkness was still lingering outside. She jogged to the beach, which was just five minutes from her house, where she could escape from the mundane matters of life. The serenity of the sea would always calm her chaotic mind down. But today, somehow, that was not the case. Before she knew it, she was drowned in thoughts, about how Adhiraj, her first love, had deceived her.

It was on the same Rose day that she had confessed her love to him & the same day that he had refused it, citing her as just a 'casual fling'. Being lonely [her mother had passed away when she was barely four] with a completely workaholic father, she had just begun to seek solace in him when he had broke up abruptly & left her. From then on, she had shunned herself in her shell of solitude & had turned....Wham! A lost Nupur looked up only to meet a pair of captivating chocolate brown eyes staring back at her with a hint of curiosity. There was a strange charm in them, which forced Nupur to continue looking at them. Suddenly, it dawned to Nupur that she had collided with someone & was presently lying on top of him. Quickly regaining her composure, she tried to get up, but slipping again, she fall back on him. This time, the guy helped her & she finally stood up. He tried to apologise, "I'm sorry Ms...." But Nupur snapped, "For heaven's sake, can't you look where you're going? If not, then please get yourself a pair of glasses & STOP colliding with people around you!" She jogged away quickly, without sparing a second glance at him.

Slowing down after a few steps, she recollected how the stranger had seemed genuinely apologetical & how she had snubbed him off. Mentally berating herself, she turned back & saw him standing at a nearby ice-cream stall. She walked back. "I'm sorry for being so unreasonably rude. Actually it was my fault too, but I scolded you without giving you a chance to speak. I'm really sorry."

The guy smiled, "That's fine Ms'."

"Nupur Bhushan", she replied.

"Okay. By the way, I'm Mayank. Actually I'm new here, just shifted yesterday & thought of having a look at the surroundings. So do you love the beach?"

"Yeah, its calmness enchantments me. Do you live around here?" Nupur found it strangely easy to talk to him.

"Around ten minutes from here. It's a lovely morning & since I had finished my unpacking, thought of visiting this beach & boy, am I pleased! So that's one interest we share, what else do you like around here?"

"Oh! I guess I better leave now. Maybe we'll meet sometime later, bye Mayank!"

She started to leave, only to be held back gently by Mayank.

"Wait Nupur, I've got something for you." Saying this, he gestured a startled Nupur towards a cute yellow rose in his hand.

"Hope you'll accept my friendship."

His tensed face saw Nupur's expression change into a smile & relaxed a bit.

"Thank you Mayank, I surely do!"

She turned & left, having only one thought in her mind-

Maybe Rose day wasn't that bad at all.....
