Chapter 4:

Nupur swung the car into the drive-way outside their house and killed the engine...She was in a foul mood, firstly because her drama practice didn't go as expected...Her partner, Purab, was down with jaundice and wouldn't be able to make it to the practices for an entire month!! And of course, after that, she could hardly expect to audition for the lead role...What if she didn't gel with her new partner? Anyway it was so hard for her to tolerate new people, let alone let them romance her!! Nupur rolled her eyes at the thought as she pushed open the main door and bent down to collect the mail lying at the doorstep...

"Ye Gunjan bhi na! Koi kaam yaad nahi rehta use..." Talking of Gunjan,she was reminded of the other reason why she was so irritated then...She had seen the so-called "polite" exchange between RV and Gunjan in the canteen from a distance and couldn't help but be irritated with that development... Gunjan was talking so sweetly to him but Nupur knew what that guy was capable of...She didn't like the looks of it one bit...And however much Gunjan and Nupur had their differences, she was her little sis in the end and Nupur felt very protective of her...

"Aane do usko...Tab baat karti hun usse main..." Nupur muttered to herself as she headed towards the kitchen,while looking through the mail at the same time...She was about to chuck it aside on the small coffee table when her eyes fell on the one letter she had been waiting for since months....She tore open the envelope and hurriedly pulled out the flimsy,but most precious piece of paper for her, and scanned the contents of the letter,following which she let out a high-pitched squeal of joy!!

"What's happening out here?? Kya hua Nupur? Kyun ghar sir pe utha rakha hai?" A man's irritated deep voice spoke up from the doorway of one of the rooms...

"Papa!!! Aap hospital se kab aaye?? Oh papa...im sooooooooo happy..." Nupur ran upto him,almost hopping and skipping on her way...

Dr. Ajay Bhushan was the consultant gynaecologist at the city's most reliable and famous multi-speciality hospital...Yup! very un-conventional, but not rare... Being one of the few male gynaecologists of Mumbai, had its shares of pros and cons...But it took a toll on his daughters, who had to bear with his repetitive lectures on Teenage pregnancy and how awful it was when he had to deliver babies of a 15-yr old!! And this was the reason he had barred the 2 of them from dating...He happily explained to them that all guys expected only ONE THING from all girls...Ah!! as if it wasn't uncomfortable enough to hear you father talk about Teenage pregnancy, they also had to put up with the S*x talk from him!! Anyhow, till date the girls had been pretty submissive about it, not only because it was almost impossible to win this argument with him, but also coz they loved him very much and didn't wanna hurt him more after his resignation towards life when his wife left him for another man...Besides,when Dr.Bhushan was not in one of his moods,he was one of the coolest dads ever!!

Anyway, right now he had been taking one of his afternoon naps coz he had spent the last night delivering baby of yet another unmarried girl but the girls had luckily escaped the lecture this time, coz he returned home late and they left early morning, before he could wake up...Seems like Nupur poked the sleeping dragon!!

His eyebrows clouded as he looked at Nupur,who looked like she would break into a jig any moment... "What is it? Why do u look like you just won the lottery?"

"Papa, I got my acceptance letter from N.S.D!!!!" Nupur squealed, her eyes wide with happiness and excitement...

"NSD??Nupur,vo kya hai? Tum shanti se bataogi?" He pulled her to the couch nearby and made her sit down to calm her nerves...But Nupur stood up instantly!

"Aap NSD nahi jaante,papa? NSD matlab National School of Drama...Delhi mein hai...Im so excited...Its one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world...Do u even noe how difficult it is to get in there?" Nupur went on in a single-breath,not pausing for a second...

"Hold on, hold on!! Delhi? But that's so far from here.." Ajay exclaimed,frowning...

"Thus the basis of its appeal, Papa!!" Nupur turned to look at him...

"No way! You're not going anywhere!"

"Who's going where??" Gunjan spoke up from the hallway...She had just entered the house and was very confused about the whole commotion...

"Nupur thinks she's going to Delhi!!" he explained to his younger daughter and earned himself a glare from his elder one...

"Wow!! When?? Good riddance!" Gunjan added in an undertone...

"Hey!! I heard that!! Papa, why don't you ask Gunjan who she was interacting with in the canteen?" Nupur crossed her arms across her chest and gave Gunjan a smug look...

"Don't try to change the topic,Nupur...I don't care...wait...interacting?? who was it? Who were you interacting with? I hope it wasn't a boy!" their father shifted his sole focus onto Gunjan...

Gunjan gave a deathly stare to Nupur who smirked at her triumphantly... "Papa, please don't be upset,but there's this boy and I think he wants to...." Gunjan spoke softly,trying to pacify him with her sweet voice,but it failed miserably when he cut her midway...

"I think I know what he's going to ask you...And the answer is NO...." He pulled both his daughters and made them sit side by side on the couch..Both sneered at each other and moved as far away from each other as possible,not looking at each other...

"What are the two house rules?? One, NO DATING TILL YOU GRADUATE and Two, NO DATING TILL YOU GRADUATE!! Is that clear?" he asked them ominously..

"But Papa, Im the only girl in college who's never been on a date!!" Gunjan complained "And I want to go out atleast once,papa!"

"Wrong!! Your sister isn't dating either!!" he offered...

"And I don't intend to!! Have you seen what pathetic idiots come to our college??" Nupur winked at him...

"Oh please!! Where are you from? 'Planet Loser'??" Gunjan retorted to her sister directly this time...

"As opposed to 'Planet Look-at-me,Look-at-me'??" Nupur glared at her...Gunjan met the glare with the same intensity...

"Hold on...No need to fight over this!!Ok Gunjan,im ready to change the rules!!"

Nupur gasped whereas Gunjan squealed "Really Papa??"

Ajay looked reassuringly towards Gunjan before replying..." Yes! You can date......only when she does!!!" Just then his beeper rang and he got up to attend to the call..Must be another emergency at the hospital!

It was Nupur's turn to smile and Gunjan's to gasp..."But she's never gonna date...She's a mutant!!" Gunjan burst out,following him, furious with the fact that her sister was the obstacle to her new-found freedom...

"You got that right!!!" Nupur said dryly, as she got up to go to her room..."I hope you'll enjoy your imaginary date with RV the Royal as much as I will!!"

"You.....!!!!!!" Gunjan went after her but Nupur had reached her room by then and locked herself securely into her room...She felt good that now her sister would be away from that rascal,that too coz of her...Because she was very well aware of the extent of "his lowness"!!Nupur's blood boiled as she thought of him, so she went and switched on her Music player and headed for the shower...She wouldn't let any creep ruin the day for her...She was going to NSD, whether anyone likes it or not!!

Outside, Gunjan fumed and fretted,but to no avail!! She knew she had lost the battle...Papa was never gonna change this rule and Nupur was never going to go to a party also, forget a date with a guy alone!! Gunjan snorted at this thought...But she didn't know what lay ahead...yet!!
