Unexpressed Feelings- An MJHT FF
-Gargy. S

Chapter 1

It was December. The weather had turned around drastically. Nupur had never experienced Delhi's winter before, as she has always been accustomed to Mumbai's weather. It was almost mid-night and the chilly Delhi winter or popularly known as 'Dilli ki Sardi' had taken a toll on her. She bent down to remove her jacket from the heavy luggage, so that she could cocoon herself in it. Suddenly a feeling of chill ran into her bones. The reason: an announcement, delivered in a detached monotone, "the Delhi bound Mumbai Express will arrive three hours late, due to foggy weather' we apologise for the inconvenience'"

"Damn it! What the hell? These bloody trains are never on time'" Nupur said irritably.

The whole day's hard work, running here and there for stories, writing articles and the biggest paranoia of a journalist- 'due date'. Well, this is the way Nupu'r life goes on, on a daily basis. Returning home from work is the highest point of relaxation in any professional's life, especially in metros. But it was not the usual day for her.

She was returning home after a gruelling week, as she was in Delhi to attend a press conference. She desperately wanted to return home as she was feeling lonely here and missing home a lot. But feeling of loneliness is something which has always been prevalent in Nupur's busy life. But, here in this gloomy Delhi railway station platform, she had hardly had any people to interact with.

"I should probably write a story about these trains being late all the time. No one wants to take responsibility of anything in this country and the laid back attitude of these citizens is adding fuel to the fire." she said in an exaggerated tone. She has a tendency to exaggerate things when she is really irritated.

After her super derisive thought, criticizing about the country like every responsible Indian does, Nupur took her heavy luggage and walked off the railway station as she really had nothing to do by waiting on the platform. So she thought of going out in fresh air, so that her anger gets sorted.

Outside the station she saw a small tea stall, with two- three benches placed. She sat there as she had nothing else to do but wait for the damn train to come.

"Chai, chai?" a young 10-year old boy, in tattered clothes asked her in an accent which she recognized promptly- chaste Haryanvi.

She instantly nodded adding, "adarak wali" as her head was banging from inside asking her for a cup of tea to relax. She looked around to find some interesting character around and to her disclosure there were some. "Thank God, I was not the only one surviving here" she prompted.

Opposite her sat an old lady, toothless. She stared at Nupur inquisitively through her thick bottle glasses and went back to her own world of thoughts. "Wonder what she was thinking?" she asked herself, raising an eyebrow. Beside her laid a plump figure inside a coarse, smelly blanket. He looked scary and she didn't even bother to look at him again. Nupur has a habit of not showing her fears in front of everybody or anybody. The locals near her gazed from all angles possible, which were relatively expected, because they hardly see a 26- year old woman, with heavy luggage at one o' clock in the night, sipping ginger tea and hardly worried about what will happen next.

For a change she thought that she has become popular and suddenly a jerk came into her wild thoughts, "Oh God, Ms. Nupur Bhushan, you are just a journalist who writes about famous personalities. People hardly read your name, forget about recognizing you'" she smiled at her inane sense of humour and returned back to sipping her tea without even giving a heed about what others are thinking of her.

That self confidence in her made her stand out in the crowd. She was successful, popular and everybody loved her company, but there was something which always bothered her and made her sad, but she never spoke about it to anybody.

Chapter 2

"Excuse me Miss, can you just move your luggage ahead. I don't have any place to put my feet" a manly voice came into Nupur's ears. She winced at her side and saw a young man, in his late twenties, gazing at her. Her irritation just disappeared seeing that dimpled smile on his face. She kept on staring him with eyes wide open as if she had never seen a creation like this before.

"Excuse me, hello!! Are u listening??" the guy said in astonishment as a bit of rudeness appeared in his tone.

Suddenly, coming back to her senses, "Huh! Oh ya'I am sorry'I mean what?! Nupur didn't know what she was saying. She took a deep sigh and noticed the guy being a bit rude.

"I said, could you please move your luggage from here, as it is a hindrance and I cannot place my feet properly" he repeated again, adjusting himself on the seat.

By this time Nupur was furious. How someone can talk to a woman like that, she thought.

Nupur, furious, "How dare u talk to me like that. Don't you know how to talk to a woman? Bloody male chauvinist!"

"I have been asking you to move your luggage like a chivalrous man for past 10 minutes, but I guess you have been dreaming all that while. So I had to raise my voice so that you could come out of your dreamy land and see such a pain your big pack is." he said annoyingly with a pinch of sarcasm.

Nupur was speechless for a moment. She glanced here and there to notice if anybody was listening or no. But there was no one who thought that scene to be so important to even give a glance at.

She just took her luggage out of his delicate feet and placed it near her. There was pin-drop silence for a moment. The young man was sitting beside Nupur as there was no other comfortable seat. He asked the young lad working for a cup of "ginger" tea.

Nupur looked at him surprisingly, muttering something monosyllabically. But now, Nupur felt a bit relaxed as there was somebody with her in that weird place, but Nupur being the way she is, she did not let him realise that.

After a flash of silence, the young guy broke the ice. His anger was cooled down by this time and he soon realized that he did not behave well with the lady beside him.

"I guess, I have hurt you a bit. I really did not mean to be rude, but I was a little worn out and irritated too" he said, looking at Nupur. He just realized that the girl sitting next to him had this raw beauty to her. She was absolutely tired and drained, her hair scattered all over, but still a there was something to her which cannot be hidden in that weary look of hers.

"Oh! So you have the manners to talk to girls too" she said, pinning her tresses back.

"Yea, I can be a little good to girls sometimes" he said with a grin. Nupur looked at him with a straight face as she was not in mood of any funny answers. She was just looking for a perfect time to give him back and here it was.

"Look, I really did not mean to upset you or something. It just happened with the flow. And I guess it was not your fault either. You must have not realized it that you have placed the luggage in the wrong place" he clarified.

Nupur was in no mood to take that shit from him. She reverted, "Wow! Brilliant. Just to hide your guilt of speaking to me rudely, you are doing this balancing act. Look Mr. whoever, I really don't want this stupid explanation from you. Instead of saying 'sorry' you actually want to get out of this situation so easily, huh! This is not gonna happen with me, do you get that. I am not like any other girl, who will fall for this fake concern of yours. If I want, I can shoo off you all male chauvinist guys like this (snapping her fingers). And you know'" she kept on continuing.

Meanwhile, he was just looking at her in amazement, thinking how anybody can speak so much, in a fraction of second, non-stop, without breathing. Suddenly he came forward, close to Nupur and placed his hand over her mouth.

Nupur was shocked and taken aback. With his hand covering Nupur mouth, he could only see her sparkling eyes, which was wide open and raging with anger. "Beautiful!" he thought. Both remained quite for some moment.

Even Raj used to do this, when I spoke non-stop .Thoughts pour into Nupur's mind and a series of flashback came in. She felt a bit uneasy and restless. Suddenly Nupur came back to her senses and snapped in. She moved his hand roughly and continued, "Don't you dare do that to me again". She took her luggage and in no time she was out of there. He was just out of words as he felt that he had done something wrong to her. But Nupur didn't even give him the opportunity to say sorry.

He looked at his watch and realized that 3 hours passed fighting and arguing for a silly, nonsensical thing. "Ahh, what a waste of time" he exclaimed. He took his back pack and started walking towards the station. He kept on thinking about that girl continuously as something about her was very intrusive. "Jhansi ki Rani" he gave her a name and kept walking.

The Delhi bound Mumbai Express finally arrived. Nupur went ahead in search of her bogie. The moment she found her bogie, the first thing she checked was the passengers list. She found her name and heaved a sigh of relief.

"Hash! Finally I am off to Mumbai" she exclaimed.

While checking the list she found out that the train was going almost empty. In her compartment there were only 8-10 people travelling.

"Mayank Sharma" her finger stopped at that name. "Seat no. S2589". She checked her ticket. "Seems like a young man. I hope he is a good chap and not irritating like Mr. whoever" she winced and walked in her compartment.

Well that was quite weird of Nupur to think that a name can pronounce that a particular person is young or old. That is Nupur for you. Profound thinking!
