Time is indeed such a player...or so Mayank thought. There were those times fresh in his memories when he didnot realize how quickly time passed by when he was with Samrat. The two could spend hours and hours hanging out and having all the fun but somehow time always seemed to be less. And today, the same time seem to refuse to move even a second away. The already long-awaited arrival seemed to be way too long for Mayank to keep patience. After two hours and a half, he had started losing hope and not just for him but any person in his place would have thought the same. Nupur, Ridhimma and Armaan had also understood the Samrat was not to turn up that day. Nupur saw Mayank was clearly depressed at this. She tried speaking to him...

N:"Kia hoa Mayank?"

Mayank smiled hopelessly to hide his frustration:"Wo nahi aaya Nupur...wo nahi aayega..."

N:"Umm...nahi Mayank..shayad tum bohat jaldi himat haar rahe ho..dekhna wo zaroor aayega.."

Mayank looked at Nupur and gave her a grateful smile:"Tum bhi jaanti ho k ab wo nahi aayega...gussa bas is baat par aa raha hai k...k main bhi usse samajh nahi paaya..mujhe lagta tha main usse jaanta hoon...main sochta tha k aaj toh wo zaroor aayega..par nahi...ya toh waqt ne Samrat ko badal diya...ya phir Mayank kabhi Samrat ko samajh hi nahi paaya.."

Mayank looked down. He was almost into tears. It was too painful for him to know that he actually didn't know Samrat as well as he always thought he did. His friend was gone. Never to come.!!!And then a stranger voice came and Mayank quickly wiped his tears and looked up.

Stranger:"Hey Mayank.."

M:"Umm..Aakaash right?"...he finally guessed the stranger to be his classmate.

A:"Yup!!Pehchaan liya..."he looked at Nupur who gave him a kind smile and then looking at Mayank said:"Ye..tumhari fiance??"

At this Nupur looked at Mayank for a while and then looked down. Mayank who was enjoying Nupur's amazing expressions said:"Abhi tak toh nahi..par bohat jald hone wali hai..don't worry card pohanch jaayega.."

A:"Ofcourse!Saare friends ko invite karna..waise bhi pehla invitation toh Samrat ko hi milega naa.."

Mayank's smile faded immediately but Aakaash who didn't seem to notice it continued:"Wo bhi saala poora change hogaya hai..."

Mayank and Nupur looked at him in surprise but Aakaash was just too occupied to speak more and he said:"Kaisa tha na college mein?!Aur ab dekh..pakka businessman..."

Mayank interrupted immediately:"Samrat?Tum mile usse?Aaj?Wo aaya hai?Kahan hai?Kab mile?Kahan hai wo?"

A:"Arey relax...tu Samrat se nahi mila?don't tell me?"

M:"Wo abhi kahan hai?"

A:"Abhi thodi der pehle hi usse mila..infact, tujhse milne se pehle...main ne usse poocha bhi k woh tujhse mila ya nahi par usne toh jawaab nahi dia...woh toh shayad nikal raha tha...baher dekh le..jaldi!!"

Mayank rushed outside the hallroom and in a few seconds was at the parking lot. His friend had come!!Yes!He knew Samrat!!But then why didn't he bother to meet him?Where was he?And then he noticed among the few people there one man was moving to his car...his back facing Mayank...he seemed to be in a hurry..Mayank made his steps quicker and the man did the same..Mayank realised he was trying to run away from him and then as if knowing it had to be Samrat he screamed:"Samrat!!!!!!!"

And he stopped...Mayank stopped too...there were tears in Mayank's eyes he no longer wanted to hold. The man still didn't turn and Mayank asked him an unusual question:"Kab tak bhaagoge Samrat?Thak nahi jaate?"

He stayed for a moment and started to move again when Mayank said:"Aaj agar Samrat yahan se aise chala gaya toh Mayank ko ye yakeen hojayega k jis Samrat ko woh itne ache se jaanane ka daawa karta tha woh usse nahi jaanta..."He swallowed hard while the first tear of pain finally rolled down his cheek and he said in a much painful voice:"Aur yeh dard...mujhe tod dega Samrat..."

Samrat closed his eyes to keep the tears within. He opened his eyes knowing he had no option but to face Mayank. And he turned to face his oldest and bestest buddy and as he turned who Mayank saw was just so-not his Sam...this was a serious face..no smile..no expression..no feeling...hardened...the innocence on the face of Samrat Shergill he had known in his past days had vanished. Mayank stared at him helplessly feeling shattered and after a long silence, still maintaining the distance between them, he said:"Kia hoa hai Samrat?Aisa bhi kia hoa hai?Yeh woh Samrat nahi hai jisse main jaanta tha...woh Samrat mushkilo se bhaagta nahi tha..woh toh bohat himat wala tha...yeh Samrat toh aaj sab se bhaag raha hai...apne..apne dost se bhi..."

Samrat clearly saw the complain in his friend's eyes. And when he spoke to reply to Mayank, Mayank realized that his voice was as lifeless as ever...as if Samrat was breathing and just waiting for him to breath his last to get over with what people usually call 'life'...

S:"Kia mushkil?Kaun Samrat?Zindagi ne toh mujhse sab kuch le lia...Samrat ki har mushkil mein pehle uske saath Mayank hota tha aur phir uski.........uski Gunjan...college khatam hone k baad woh Gunjan hi toh thi jo mujhe himat deti thi..tumhari tarah samjha thi..."he smiled as he thought of all that she had done for him:"Uska choti choti baaton par gussa karna...dantna..phir manana..woh toh..kab meri zindagi k ek hisse se meri zindagi ban gayi pata hi nahi chala....woh nahi hai...ab Samrat bhi nahi hai...ab uska aur koi nahi hai.."

M:"Hai Samrat!!!Abhi ek aisa apna hai tumhara jisse aaj tumhari zaroorat hai...tumhari Gunjan ki parchai..tumhari..."

Samrat was just too furious to even hear her name and cut off Mayank saying:"Bas!!!!Kaha na....ab koi nahi hai..KOI BHI NAHI HAI!!"

M:"Tumhare na maan ne se sach nahi badalta Samrat. Aur sach toh ye hai k Pari tumhari aur Gunjan ki beti hai. Wo beti jis k liye tumne kitne hi sapne dekhe the...is sab mein uski kia galti??kyun us masoom ko?"

S:"Masoom?Us masoom ne is duniya mein aate hi apni maa ko maar dala..aur jin sapno ki tum baat kar rahe ho, us mein mere saath Gunjan bhi thi...ab woh nahi toh..."

Mayank highered his tone:"Gunjan ki maut k liye Pari zimeedar nahi hai Samrat..!!Jo hoa woh kismat ka likha tha...aur tum..tum toh hamesha har baat ka acha pehlu dekhte the na?Toh aaj kia hoa?"He lowered his tone and said with a sympathetic smile on his face:"Yeh kyun nahi sochte Samrat k...k Pari ne toh Gunjan ko apne aap mein zinda rakha hai...Pari k roop mein Gunjan aaj bhi hamare beech hai..."

At this Samrat looked at him with a thoughtful look and when Mayank noticed that his words were showing their effect on him he continued:"Is duniya mein aate hi us bachi ne apni maa ko kho dia...aise mein...aise mein toh baap ki zimedaari aur badh jaati hai..k na sirf us bache ko baap ka pyaar de balke usse apni maa ki kami kabhi mehsoos na hone de..aur tumne kia kia?!Apni bachi ko akela chod dia...sirf is liye kyunki tumhein lagta tha k usne Gunjan ko....!!!!Arey jos ladki ne aaj tak apne maa k sparsh ko mehsoos nahi kia..jisse aaj tak theek tarah se papa ka matlab bhi nahi pata wo bhala kia kisi se kuch legi?!Armaan ne bataya k Gunjan ne khud Pari ko janam dena ka faisla lia tha ta k isse rishton k saare gile shikwe mit jaaye...par nahi...tumne Samrat...tumne aisa nahi hone dia...sach pocho toh aaj tumhein waja se Gunjan haar gayi..."

Samrat had already been in tears. Life had been a terrible mess for him. Gunjan was the light of his life and as soon as she closed her eyes, Samrat was lost in the darkness of despair and hatred. Why did all this happen this way?HOW?How can someone possibly live without the person they love the most??

He could take it no longer. He feel to the ground and screamed and cried:"Kyunnnnnn??Kyun Chashmish?Kyun chali gayi tum??Main...main kaise??"

He could speak no more. Mayank was dying each moment he saw Samrat breaking like this. He immediately wrapped him in a tight hug..
