Part 9

Hot tears rolled down Sukirti's cheeks buts she quickly wiped them away. She started walking facing the door; just as she was opening the door she felt a slight cold touch on her wrist. She turned around to see Amit slowly letting go of her hand. She again wiped her tears and moved her whole body towards Amit.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to'"

Sukirti let out her hand to stop him midway.

"Don't. It's entirely my fault and I'm paying for it," Sukirti said curving up her lips for a smile.

"Really Sukirti, I didn't mean to make you feel bad", Amit said.

"It's okay", Sukirti said letting out a sigh. She motioned towards the door feeling a little better. Sukirti's right foot felt a little lower than her left, and then she looked down to see her feet. She realized that her heel was broken. She made a weird face but decided to leave it and continue walking. After taking a couple of steps she found herself getting a little unbalanced. Sukirti's heart was beating faster and before she thought she was going to fall on the floor she felt a tight touch on her back. She closed her eyes quickly and when she opened it she saw Amit looking at her.

Amit felt Sukirti's prickling hair on his cheeks, but he did not hesitate a bit. Sukirti wanted to let go but even she didn't budge. Amit, without thinking, let his hand go closer to Sukirti's face. He softly swept her hair out of her face being careful not to hurt her. Sukirti kept looking at Amit and saw what he was up to but still didn't move. She felt a slight cold on her forehead and shivered a little. Then the cold spread from her forehead to her cheek. Amit had only touched her cheek with a couple of fingers but she still felt her whole body shivering. Then after a few moments Sukirti's toes to her head was starting to warm up. She didn't understand it. One moment she was cold just by his slight touch and now she was all warm from the inside. She didn't like what was happening because she had felt this way before and that ending was not the happily ever after that she had dreamed of.

Sukirti looked away, and pushed his hand which was on her back.

"I'm sorry", she mumbled.

Amit didn't say anything. Sukirti was annoyed at herself. She took her shoes off and ran away from there on bare feet. She needed some air. Deciding this, she headed to the terrace.

Amit followed her, not really knowing what he was about to do. When he saw Sukirti on far end, staring particularly nowhere, he moved towards her.

"What just happened?" Amit asked stopping a few feet away from Sukirti. He saw her long hair blowing in the wind covering her face and showing her face from second to second.

Sukirti's faced Amit who she saw was looking at her, and she felt odd about the way his eyes didn't even blink once when he was staring at her like that.

"What do you mean?" she asked acting oblivious at what happened at his cabin. Amit threw a strange look at her. He moved closer, thinking, was she really asking that? Amit let out a chuckle.

"What?" Sukirti asked.

"You know what? Nothing. I'm leaving from here", he started to turn around.

"Amit", Sukirti called out his name.

Amit raised both his eyebrows giving her a sign to go on.

She scoffed and turned to face the open sky that she was watching before Amit came.

"Karan cheated on me", she finally let out after thinking for a while.

"I'm sorry to hear that" he replied.

"Yeah that's not the worst part. He cheated on me with my best friend", she blurted out.

"I'm sorry to hear that", Amit repeated feeling awful. Then pondered why anyone would want to cheat on her. "Maybe it was a mistake", he added.

"Yeah that's what they told me. I want to believe them", Sukirti said with a gloomy sigh.

"So what does that have to do with what just happened between us?" he questioned with confusion in his voice.

"I can't take that chance again", she finally specified with a little tension in her about what his response would be. She looked down and prayed that this could be a little easier.

Amit understood what Sukirti was trying to say. Now he didn't really know what to say. He stepped forward to Sukirti. She fiddled with her hair turning right to left. Sukirti put a strand of hair behind her ear and walked away from Amit. Before she went too far Amit grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer to him. Sukirti first didn't look directly at him but was unable to stop herself to look in his eyes as she felt his gaze on her.

Karan opened his locker and saw something falling on the floor. He bent down to pick it up and saw his and Sukirti's picture. He smiled to himself recalling the moment the picture was taken at.

Flashback

"Stop it Karan. I have to go in", Sukirti said a little annoyed by Karan's act. He had been holding onto her by the waist from the last 10 minutes and she was feeling really uneasy.

"Fine go away", Karan said letting of her. He folded his hands and pouted a little.

Sukirti chuckled a bit.

"Sorry dude", she said holding her ear. Karan then turned around grinning.

Sukirti walked a few steps to face Karan and his adorable smiley face. She took his hands in her and touched his cheeks.

"I love you Karan", she whispered.

"I love you too Sukirti", he replied kissing her forehead.

"Don't move", Karan and Sukirti heard Mayank say. They both stayed in that position for a few moments and when they saw the flash they let go.

"Here you go", said Mayank handing the picture he had just taken.

"Thanks Mayank", Sukirti gave a sweet smile accepting the picture.
