Part 17
Nupur stopped going out and communicating with people. She kept herself limited within her house. She didn't meet Mayank ever since the farewell party. Mayank often came down her house to meet Dia but to his bad luck Nupur was never available at home.
After weeks of the incident, Samrat came inside Nupur's room. Nupur was sitting on her bed with her laptop in her lap, surfing on net to kill her time. She was changed. Absolutely. From the bubbly, fun loving Nupur to quiet and lost Nupur. Her bubbly style was lost somewhere, so was the glow on her face. She hardly spoke to anyone at home. Her parents were worried about her sudden change of behaviour, but she asked not to worry. Nupur's father tried asking her but she satisfied him saying that she misses college and friends. Her father wasn't quite satisfied with the answer but decided to let it be.
"Hey Di!" Samrat addressed his elder sister, as he approached towards the bed, where Nupur was sitting.
"Hi Sammy. Tum Yahan?" Nupur asked letting out a faint smile at him.
"Woh... Di... pa..ta.. nahin ye baat aapse kaise kahu?" Samrat hesitated, avoiding Nupur's curious gaze on him.
"Kya baat hai Sammy? Why are you hesitating?" Nupur asked in surprised tone. This was the first time when Samrat hesitated to talk to Nupur. He never did. Nupur was like a mate to him, more than an elder sister.
"Di read this and you will understand what I am trying to say." Saying Samrat handed a letter to Nupur and walked out of the room without looking back.
Samrat was a sensible boy, sensible than his age. Someitmes he act as if he is Nupur's elder brother. Nothing is more painful in a sibling relationship, than telling your own sister about the person who destruyed her life forever.Being a younger brother, it was such a shame fot Samrat to even look up to his sister for not being albe to stop what destiny had plan for her. He hated himself for losing her old sister. A sister who would do anything to make her younger brother smile. But her younger could ont return the same smileo n her face. He just could not.
After staring at the letter for few good seconds, Nupur finally decided to unfold it. She looked curious to know what was in the letter that made Samrat hesitate. She moved the laptop from her lap and kept it aside. She began reading the letter.
As she read the last line of the letter, she looked horrified. Her hands were trembling. She dropped the letter and it fell on her lap. Tears started forming down from her eyes and soon a drop of salted water became an ocean of tears as Nupur broke down completely. She covered her face with her two hands and sobbed loudly.
"Why? How could you do this to me? How could you just? "Nupur cried, filing the room with echoes. "Kyun? God why? Why me? I was living with my pain wasn't I? Then why did you retouch my healed wounds? Kyun? What have I done?" She cried ever more, covering her face with pillow, as if not wanting anyone to see her tears? As if trying to hide herself, somewhere away from this cruel world?
Sudden sound of footsteps, made Nupur get up from her position and wipe her tears. She quickly picked up the letter and kept it in the drawer next to the bed. After doing so, she quickly ran into the bathroom to wash her face (more like hiding tears).
Mayank entered Nupur's room. Her was wearing plaint light green t shirt with blue denim jeans, perfectly hugging his body. He looked around the room but found no one. He walked inside the room and made himself comfortable on the bed. A voice of running tap madeh im realise that Nupur is in bathroom.
He felt relief knowing that he is finally meeting Nupur after 2 weeks. He missed her, missed her jokes, missed their silly fights, her smile, her way of saying 'By God'. he missed her loads. Nupur was the only person in Mayank's life, with whom he shared his happiness and sorrows. But this was until Dia entered in Mayank's life. Life was changed for him. He used to spend days and nights talking to Dia. The only thing that hadn't change was Nupur's place in his heart. She was always there for him. Whenever he needed her, Nupur came by his side without letting him know. She faced Mayank's problem considering as her own. She was,is and will always be Mayank's best friend. He loved Nupur, loved her as his best friend. He respected her in every way.
A sound of opening the bathroom door brought Mayank back to reality.Nupur came out of the bathroom, trying tro look fresh. Few drops of water were still there on her face. The marks of tears were gone from the face but her eyes were still red. She closed the bathroom door behind and turned around to see Mayank lost in his own thoughts.
As soon as she saw him, her heart skipped a beat. He was looking dashing as ever. he wasn't wearing anything special, but for Nupur he looked hot as ever. New hairstyle aha ha Nupur thought to herself, in order to lighten up the atmosphere inside her. Keeping her thoughts aside, she moved towards Mayank.
"Mayank!" She called out to him, bringing him back to reality. She walked up to him and stood in front of him.
"Where on earth have you been, Nupur?" Mayakn asked, getting up from the bed and giving straight eye contact to Nupur. His face looked furious.
"No where. Ghar pe hi thi. Kyun?" Nupur replied politely, ignoring the fact Mayank was asking about. She knew Mayank came to meet her before as well but she was never available at that time.
"Nupur, What is wrong with you? Mayank asked with concern, when Nupur moved towards her bed side to grab her laptop. She was acting weird, according to Mayank.
"What?" Nupur questioned back, giving him What look.
"Kuch huwa kya?" He inquired, as he walked near her. He made her sit down on ther bed, removing the laptop from the way.
How can he be so nice? I am trying s ohard to stay away from him. Why is he coming closer to me? Why? Nupur thought to herself, while staring at Mayank, with eyes full of love and affection.
"Ab batao, kya huwa?" Mayank asked wit ha great concern, clearly visible in his eyes. "Why is my best trying to be rude with me?", he further added, taking seat next ti Nupur and taking her hand in his.
Nupur shivered at his touch. His hands were s owarm and safe to be in. She felt her heartbeat increasing with every pass second. This feeling wasn't new for Nupur. Everytime Mayank touched her, she felt heaven at her toe. His touch was sensational. It can drive anyone crazy.
Nupur looked up to him and kept her head on Mayank's shoulder. She felt relief, first time in these tow weeks time. She felt she was safe and nothing in the wrold could harm her.
Mayank simply smiled at Nupur.
"I want to go away from here." Nupur declred, shocking Mayank beyond words.
"WHAT?" Mayank asked the very next second, moving Nupur's head from his shoulder.
"Just kidding. Itna overreact kar ne ki koi jarurat nahin hai" Nupur said laughing away. But what she said was true. She did want to go away from here. Away from everyone, Just wanted to be alone!
============================
Nupur was sitting on the bed, with her head placed on Mayank's chest. Mayank had his arm placed around Nupur's waist. The room was filled up with silence but as it says sometimes silence speaks more than word. That was the case with Nupur and Mayank.
"Look Nupur, look at me!" Mayank broke the silence expectedly. He was rather pleading with teary eyes and cupping Nupur's face between his hands. It was a more than a heart attact knowing that Nupur had been through so much still she kept quiet all these years. He felt terrible thinking how Nupur must have been able to cope with all this. he cursed hmself for not being there for Nupur, not supporting her when she needed the most. He was never there to give her moral supprot.
Nupur gathered courage and looked up at Mayank with red eyes. There was fear in her eyes, fear of losing someone she loved the most.
"Jo kuch bhi usme tumhari koi galti nahi thi, got that?" Mayank said, when Nupur finally managed to look up. Nupur felt another tear escaping from her eyes and tried very hard not to let it flow but in vain. Mayank noticed it and cathced the tear before it could fall any further.
"This is not needed anymore." Mayank said pointing towards the tear on his first finger, "And you, don't you make again in those beautiful eyes OK?', he added further, as if talking to the tear.
Nupur managed a faint smile. She got up from the bed and reached her hands to the side table near the bed. She pulled the drawer and took out a letter from there.
"Mayank thanks." Nupur said with a real smile, that actually reached her eyes."Aur ye letter jo Sammy ne mujhe diya tha," She added further, but saying this her smile went pale. She remembered the incident yet again.
"Thanks." That's all Mayank could managed to say.
=============================
Nupur was standing near the balcony in Mayank's room, no actually Mayank and Nupur's room. Yes, Nupur was maried now. Married with love of her life, Mayank. She was looking ablosute stunning in red bridal wear.
Mayank entered the room, locking the door behind. He walked up to Nupur.
"Nupur, aaj se hum pati patni hai, but I think ki hum is rishte ko thoda waqt dena chahiye." Mayank said, standing behind Nupur, near the balcony.
"Haan Mayank shayad tum theek keh rahe ho." Nupur replied, turning her face towards Mayank.
"Aur waise hum best friends se hai, so please tumhe formal wife ban ne ki jarurat nahin hai samji?" mayank replied with a grin, while pulling Nupur into a hug.
"It's quite late. I guess we should go to bed." Mayank suggested, breaking apart from the hug. Nupur smiled and both of them headed towards the bed.
"Tum yaha so jao, mein couch pe so jata hoon." Mayank said, taking the pillow and the sheet of the bed.
"Pagal ho kya?" Nupur replied, to which Mayank looked confused, "Mayank I trust you." She added futher. Nupur did not feel the need of continuing any further as she knew Mayank understood what she was trying to say. And Mayank did. He understood that Nupur did not mind sharing the same bed.
Some people think that sharing a bed only means one thing, but no sharing bed does not mean sharing love or anything else. It also has another definition which is that sharing bed means sharing the understanding and the respect. And having understanding and the respect is what makes a relationship successful. If you can't understand or respect you partner, you can't expect the same in return. It will not work out your relationship.
Mayank and Nupur understood each other without having to say it by words. Silence is the most suitable way of understanding each other. Same with Mayank and Nupur.
Mayank kept his pillow and sheet back to where they belonged and made himself comfortable on the bed after getting changed from his heavy shervani. Nupur did the same and laid back on the bed with her back facing Mayank.
Will Mayank ever love me as a wife? Will he ever accept me as Arti's mother? May be not but I will try my best to keep Mayank and Arti happy. Nuput thought to herself.
Why did she not tell me about all this? Was I not important enough to share her pain with me? Was I meant nothing to her at all? And the more important who is responsible for all this? Mayank thought to himself. Suddenly he remembered about the letter Nupur gave him 2 days back. There should be some clue in that letter, with the thought he got up from the bed and opened the drawer just next to the bed without making any noise. He took out the letter.
"You asleep yet?" Mayank slowly asked Nupur. He wanted to go out of the room. But not without telling Nupur. Otherwise she would feel offended. And surely he did not want to upset his newly wife by his silly action.
"No. Why?" Nupur replied, turning towards Mayank.
"Actually I haven't seen Arti all day, so just wanted to check up on her." Mayank replied with a half truth and half lie. Yes he wanted to see Arti but he also wanted to read the letter. He knew that he wouldn't be able to read it in front of Nupur, so he needed going out.
"Sure thing." Nupur replied with a smile. She was happy that Mayank was responsible. He grown mature and was a great father to Arti.
"I'll be back in a while." Mayank replied and left the room.
Nupur went back to sleeping, no back to her thoughts.
===========
Mayank marched towards Gunjan's room. Since it was Mayank and Nupur's first night, Gunjan decided to look after Arti for the night being. Mayank lightly knowcked the on Gunjan's door. He waited for few seconds before Gunjan opened the door. She looked amused seeing her brother at her door in the midnight. Wasn't he supposed to be in his room with Nupur? Gunjan thought to herself.
"Did I disturb you?" Mayank asked, even though he knew shewasn't sleeping. He could make out from her facial expressions but for the sake formality, he asked before getting inside the room.
"No Bhai, lekin tum yaha kya kar rahe ho?" Gunjan askes following Mayank inside the room.
"Arti kaha hai?" Mayank asked ignoring Gunjan's question. But before she could open her mouth to answer iit, Mayank saw Arti sleeping peacefully in her coat near the bed. He walked towards it and simply stared at his angle.
"Bhai, I said what are you doing here?" Gunjan repeated her question but this time with annoyance.
"I came to meet my angle, Any problem?" He replied, raising his eye brows.
"I mean to say ki aaj to tumhe Bhabhi ke pass hona chahiye." Gunjan said with a smirk on her face.
"Gunji, tu so ja. I am going and take care of my angle." saying Mayank walked out the room before Gunjan could ask her any other question.
"I just hope ki Bhai and Nupur ka rishta hamesha bana rahe." Gunjan prayed silently before turning the lights off and heading in to the bed.
==========
Mayank went to the garden and sat on the swing. He took out the letter from his pocket and started reading it.
(The letter)
Dear Nupur.
Sanam here. I don't know how are you going to react to this but I have to tell you this. You must know it. Mein janti hoon ki ye tumhare liye bahut mushkil hoga use accept karna lekin ye janana bahut jaroori hai tumhare liye. I don't have courage to tell you this on your face, so I am writing this letter to you.
Jis insaan ne tumhari zindagi barbaad ki uska naam hai Ajay.
before Mayank could read any further, he spotted one name 'Ajay' and that was more than enough to give him heart attack.
