Chp.6 Pehli nazar me... Teri Ore...

Armaan woke up early in the morning and quickly got ready to leave for the village. It was a pleasant day and the weather was cool. Raja sahib had already left on his trip. There was a knock on the door and Abhimanyu walked in.

"Good morning kunwarji," he said.

"Hey Abhimanyu, good morning, how are you doing today?" Armaan asked.

"Fine kunwarji, are we ready to leave?" he queried.

"Yeah let's go," Armaan replied.
They left the palace and hopped into the car with Armaan in the driver's seat. They drove through the road and entered the forest where the road narrowed down.

"So kunwarji, what's the task?" inquired Abhimanyu.

"Pitaji wants us to build a school in the Gehgoli village and so we have to assess the village and find a suitable plot for the school" replied Armaan.

"Kunwarji, I am very happy for you. You have done the previous project quite wonderfully and impressed Raja sahib," said Abhimanyu.

"Thank you," Armaan replied modestly.

"So how do we begin the work? Together or separately?" Abhimanyu asked.

They reached the village within an hour and a half. It was 10.00 a.m. and they decided to begin the work separately so that they could finish the work faster and finish the work within two days instead of four.

Abhimanyu went towards the west and Armaan towards the east. They decided to meet right near the car at 2.p.m. for lunch. In the eastside there were three locations that had been short listed and five in the west. Abhimanyu started his work and went looking for the locations. By 1.00 p.m. he had finished 2 locations and called up kunwarji to inform him that he would be there by 3.00 p.m. instead of 2.00. Armaan began his search and by 2.00 p.m. he had finished three locations. Two more to go, before I can call it a day he thought. He began moving further.

On his way, he heard a melodious voice, which stopped him in his tracks. It was the voice of a girl. She was singing a song.

He had never heard anyone sing so melodiously before. He was really charmed by it. He looked around and spotted a girl dancing under a tree, but he couldn't see her face. He closed his eyes & hummed along.

Suddenly a girl came and said to her, "why do you keep singing the same song again and again?"

The girl stopped singing and replied, "Sohni, I sing this song again and again because it is my favorite and through it I can also express my feelings."

Armaan could clearly hear the conversation between them. Manners told him that he shouldn't be eaves-dropping on their conversation but his heart told him to wait back and listen. Meanwhile, by 3.30.p.m Abhimanyu had finished checking out the locations and reached the car. There was no sign of kunwarji, so he decided to wait and prepare his report.

Armaan listened to his heart and continued to listen to them. "I know that you're in love, but how can you love someone whom you haven't seen in your entire life," the girl called Sohni said.

The other girl replied, "Sohni, I love him because of his qualities. Whatsoever I've heard about him tells me of his kindness, bravery, loyalty and honesty."

Strange, thought Armaan, how could this girl love someone without even seeing him? That guy whom this girl loved must be a really lucky person.

"You love him even though you know that you can never marry him?" Sohni asked.

Armaan was puzzled at this. "Sohni, my inability to marry him does not stop me from loving him," she replied.

Armaan was surprised at this unconditional love. He didn't know why but he felt a pang of jealousy in his heart.

"Aaha, you are caught," a little girl came out of the bushes from behind them.

"Gudiya!" Sohni and the girl exclaimed together.
Now for the first time Armaan saw her face. He was shocked. It was the same girl that he had seen by the riverside. Now he felt even more jealous, because deep down in his heart he had fallen in love with her but he didn't want to admit it until now.

"Bad habit Gudiya, you shouldn't be listening to anybody's talks," said the girl.

Armaan really wished he knew her name.

"Sorry di, I won't do it again. But can you please tell me why you can't marry the guy you love?'' she innocently asked.

"Because your di is in love with a prince," Sohni told Gudiya.

"You mean a real prince?" Gudiya asked awestruck.

"Yes dear, a real prince,'' Sohni replied.

"Wow! But why can't di marry a Prince? I'm sure when the prince will see di, he will definitely sing,

Armaan felt like laughing on hearing the girl, he felt that to an extent she was right.

"Gudiya, you naughty girl," said the girl.

"No di, I'm not joking, honestly he will do that," she replied.

"No dear, this is the real world and princes don't get married to poor girls. They get married to beautiful princesses," the girl replied.

"So di, who is the lucky prince whom you are in love with and who's the bitch who he's, getting married with?" Gudiya queried.

Sohni burst out laughing hearing Gudiya's words.

"Gudiya, bad manners. She's not a bitch, but rather she is lucky," replied the girl.

"Whatever, but who is she?" asked Sohni irritated.

This time Sohni replied, "Well dear, the lucky prince is none other than prince Armaan Shishodiya and the lucky bitch is Rajkumari Muskan."

"Sohni!" the girl reprimanded.

"Oh well, I'm sorry," said Sohni apologetically.

Armaan couldn't believe his ears. This girl who had made his nights sleepless and days restless was in love with him! The girls were still talking but he couldn't hear them, he was too lost in thought. He didn't even notice the swish movement on the tree above him. The girls were still talking when suddenly they heard a man's voice, "Ow!" and seconds later a dull thud. Armaan saw a green serpent glide away into the bushes before he lost consciousness.
