Chp.14 Mission Accomplished

Step 2, successfully accomplished, thought Ridhima. She and Gauri were going to CR's room. The palace was very huge and grand. She was awed by its grandeur. It had long un-ending corridors with rooms with big doors, on either side. The artifacts, photo frames, certificates and mementos added to the beauty of the corridors. Ridhima was just awestruck. There were photos of the Royal family on the walls, but she couldn't stop to see them. She wondered whether her first glimpse of Kunwarji would be his photo or he himself in person. Now that she was so near to him, even the thought of seeing him made her feel shy. She put those thoughts aside and decided to concentrate on step3.

"This palace is amazingly beautiful. How long before we reach CR's room?" Ridhima asked Gauri.

"We'll be there soon, Ridhima ji," replied Gauri.

"Hey Gauri, call me Ridhima. We can be friends, you know," said Ridhima. "Why are you so afraid of Bhanumati?"

"She is our head servant," replied Gauri.

"So?"

"She has power," replied Gauri.

"She doesn't have the power to inflict injustice on anyone, you should complain about it," said Ridhima.

"No Ridhima, no one has the guts to do so," replied Gauri.

"Sounds like Hitler," mused Ridhima.

"Here we are, this is CR's room, you are on your own from here, seek permission and then enter, I'll leave now," Gauri said and left.

Ridhima relaxed herself said a short prayer and then knocked. "Come in," said the authoritative voice of CR. Ridhima entered. CR was sitting on the couch. She was dressed in a lavish trendy sari, had her hair tied up in an elegant bun and had the classiest jewels Ridhima had ever seen, around her neck. "Yes, who are you and what do you want?" she asked.

Despite the authoritarian and royal aura about CR, Ridhima didn't feel scared at all. "Pranam, choti rani sahiba. I am Ridhima and I belong to the Gehgoli village," Ridhima fearlessly replied.

"Go on," said CR.

"I have come to offer my services to Badi Rani Sahiba," replied Ridhima.

"You mean, as a nurse?" queried CR scanning her from head to toe.

"Yes choti Rani sahiba," replied Ridhima.

"So how did you come to know about this? Has the munshi sent you?" she asked.

"I came to know through the munshi, but he hasn't sent me," replied Ridhima.

"Well dear, if you don't know, then let me tell you that anyone who seeks a job in the palace, has to come through the munshi, he is solely responsible for that person, he is solely liable for any misbehavior on part of that person," said CR.

"But still CR, I request you to please give me this job, I assure you that you won't get a chance to complain. Please CR, it's very important that I get this job," replied Ridhima.

CR thought for a moment, and then said, "Ok, fine, but you will have to concentrate on Badi Rani Sahiba alone, nothing else. Her health should be of utmost importance to you and nothing should be given preference over that."

"Sure CR, thank you very much, I am very grateful to you, I assure you that you shall not get any chance to complain," said Ridhima.

"Then you shall join from this very moment, I'll ask Bhanumati to show you your room, Keep your possessions there and then she'll take you to Badi Rani's room and give you the instructions. If you have any issues you can talk to Deenu kaka and if it's something severe, let me know," said CR.

"Thank you very much CR, I shall always be thankful to you, pranam," Ridhima said and left.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, thought Ridhima. She couldn't believe herself, she had done it! She felt like rejoicing. Now, finally, she would be able to meet her kunwarji.

Rajkumari Muskan was sitting with her friends in a pub. They were drinking and smoking and playing cards. Loud music was blaring from loudspeakers in the background. Some of her friends were grooving to the music. Muskan was bugged up of sitting there and playing cards so she went and joined her friends. They grooved and jived along. Muskan was dressed in a mini denim skirt and a tight fitting top. Her hair had been pinned at the top and then let loose below. She had worn long earrings and a pretty bracelet and to compliment it all, a pair of fiery red stilettos which matched her attire perfectly. She was enjoying herself when suddenly her cell buzzed. She went out of the hustle and bustle to receive it as it was impossible to even hear one's own voice over the pandemonium. Muskan saw the number. It was CR. Muskan decided not to receive the call as CR would understand that she was in a pub or a discotheque, which would be very unfavorable for her. She knew how much the Shishodiyas valued their traditions and ancestral customs and this was definitely not a part of it. She didn't want to create any problems now that her dream was coming true.

By the time Muskan and her friends left the pub it was 2.00 in the morning and all of them were heavily drunk. Muskan drove home with her friends. She got in the driver's seat of her mustang and her friends in the rear. She put the key in the ignition and they hit the street in top speed. For a while they drove straight then Muskan had to swerve left to avoid colliding with a Porsche which was coming from the opposite direction. Muskan was so freaked out on seeing the car that a series of obscenities came out of her mouth. The guy in the driver's seat of the Porsche was a pro because he jerked away just in time to avoid the collision but not before he and his friend had heard what she said. They did not approve of such unruly and uncivilized behavior, and were even shocked to see it on her part. However, they ignored it and moved along. Despite the near accident, Muskan did not reduce the speed but accelerated even further.

Armaan and Abhimanyu were returning from the village and were quite shocked by what had just transpired. Armaan couldn't believe what his eyes had just witnessed. The girl in the mustang had unmistakably been Muskan. But her behavior was so unacceptable. He just didn't know what to think or how to react. Even Abhimanyu was shocked. He had just seen live proof of what Nikita had said. But neither of them mentioned anything rather acted as though they had not recognized her. They moved on quietly without a word until they reached the palace. When they reached the palace, everything was calm and silent. Everyone in the palace was asleep, except the guards who were on duty. Abhi and Armaan said good night to each other and went to their respective rooms to sleep. Armaan was perplexed because of Muskan but he was too tired to think. He needed rest. Moreover, RS was returning from his trip tomorrow and Armaan would have to brief him up with regards to the developments in the school project. He turned off the lights and fell asleep.
